Greetings, I am very new to the game and considering buying a 1 year subscription to the game. However I do have a few question before doing so. First is game's longevity. How long do you lot think this game will last? Is the player population decreasing or increasing? I am enjoying very much and would like to invest heavily in terms of time and PLEX.
Thank you for taking time in answering my and having a look at my question |

Its stable for the most part. Been stable for about 1 year or so. The game will probably last for another 5 years or so before we see any noticable decline. There are always around 30k-40k characters on the weekends.
But my advice is not to buy a 1 year subscription. Keep it to like 3 months at a time. This game has a very steep learning curve, and im not sure if this is the game for you. |

This game is 6 months older than WoW. It's been around a long time.
If you enjoy playing the game just play it. When it stops being fun then stop playing it. I don't understand why every once in a while we get these posts from people wondering if the game is going to be around in a few years.
There is no need to sub for a year. If you want to you can but it's not required. You have not even been playing the game long enough to know if you will still be playing in a year. Heck with real life stuff none of us know. Sometimes partner become pregnant, job responsibilities change etc... There are several times in my playing of this game that I've had to step away for a while.
TL;dr If you like the game play it. You can worry about 5 years from now in 4 years 364 days. |

You can see the game's average player numbers since the beginning, on eve-offline.net. We're past the peak, but the numbers are increasing again towards the peak.
I think the game is in pretty good shape because:
1. Current major war is getting people to resubscribe and is increasing the numbers and interest in the game. EVE functions best when we're all shooting each other (it's a PVP game after all).
2. CCP has switched to monthly expansions / upgrades / patches a while ago and isn't showing signs of slowing down.
3. The one thing that caused stagnation with the wars recently (CCP decided to revamp capital ships, so everyone kinda stopped bringing out their toys until CCP announced exactly what would change) has picked up speed again; CCP has announced details about the carrier changes and is expected to continue with the other capital ships; now we know how they'll function so there's a bit more confidence (and fighting) going on.
So, to me, EVE looks like a healthy game that hasn't been abandoned by its developers. You should be good for the next year. |

The 1 year subscription is the best deal. It also gives you the time to learn without any stress or pressure to start 'making' PLEX via ISK earnings. You'll have a really good handle on the game and find out what you like and how you like to make ISK. Then you can buy the PLEX with in game ISK and have it pay for itself.
That was my rationale when I bought my 1 year upgrade subscription. It's playing out nicely.
Be Positive GÇó Change yourself first, New Eden will come later GÇó EVE is Awesome GÇó CCP isn't the enemy GÇó Players are people too GÇó Where're the clothing blueprints GÇó Yeah, I'm still learning this game

I want to subscribe for a one year deal because it gives me some freebies and the best deal for my money. I am the type to stay in a game very long and a one year subscription looks like it will save me money. Thank you for the answers everyone it is greatly appreciated.
@ergherhdfgh - I am just trying to be wise with my money is all. Also, I will probably staying off for awhile but also coming back. I am trying to figure out in what manner you are typing this whether to interpret it as frustration, or if I should just read it as a happy piece of advice. |

Money-wise, it makes sense, but only if you dont think about it on a deeper level.
I mean, if you buy a 2 litre carton of milk that is cheaper than 2 packs of the 1 litre carton of mlik, and end up having to throw away the last half litre or so because you couldnt finish it before it expired, you end up losing more money.
If you buy a 1 year subscription to EVE, but find out that this just isnt the game for you and want to leave/ragequit after the first 2 months, youve ended up wasting a lot of money.
I consider myself a semi-vet now, but even i dont subscribe for more than 3 months at a time.
Again, its up to you, but this is just my two cents. |

Your profile says you were in a corp 8 months ago, hardly new to the game then. Lan'Tean Empire ring a bell?

Often people say, EvE is not a game but a hobby, club, second life ... and they are not wrong. People also say, once you had your EvE moment of enlightment what EvE actually is, you probably stay forever, whether you "play" or not ... and they are not wrong.
... OK, I need another beer.

I found the 1 years subscription to be the best deal. Be careful about buying an extra training que. Sometimes t's better to just create a second account if you are in it for the long term.
Since you are in it for the long-term, if you want to try out and learn about a bunch of different areas in eve, check out Eve University. You can go participate in everything from null, low, industrial, mining to wormholes, sometimes even mining in wormholes.

I certainly have learned a lot and made some great eve friends.

If you're going to invest in the game then don't invest too much to start with.
I've been known to spend -ú300 - -ú400 on a game, then leave shortly after.

You could also keep those skill points coming in even if you did need to take a little bit of a hiatus.
I think you can have up to 50 skills in queued up now which can be a couple of months or more, even to a new player. |

Eve as a whole is relatively healthy. The year promises to get interesting and player numbers have been rising lately, so that's that.
As for the replies you are getting - Eve is a "special" kind of game. Some people might argue it's not a game at all. And due to that, it's played by a "special" crowd of people, let's say. What people are telling you may sound harsh at times, but that's because the game can be fairly harsh as well. What ergherhdfgh says is sound advice, I think - Eve is certainly not for everyone. Especially if you want to save some money, it may not be the wisest choice unless you are dead set on figuring this game out or you are the very patient and frustration resistant type, because it might drive you away rather quickly otherwise.
However, your train of thought is valid too, of course. You get some "free" stuff, you get a good price and the game certainly won't crumble and die some time in the next couple of months. If you feel you will play this game for a year - sure, go for it. Just remember that you have been warned. :)

I did not meant to come off as frustrated. When I come across viewpoints that I don't understand I feel the need to try and understand them so I ask questions.
I understand that in the wrong context it can seem kind of rude to ask someone to explain themselves when they just expressed a preference but I have that nagging curiosity. Sorry again if I offended. |

Many people don't look at playing an MMO like playing a "game" but more like raising a pet. Those people see MMOs as an emotional investment so they don't want to invest a bunch of time in something that won't last very long.
I totally feel that. Play a few MMOs, get totally into the community and love your character, then the MMO shuts down, and you feel cheated and betrayed. Anyone that has experienced that will want to verify they aren't joining another short lived MMO.
The answer to the OP is yes. Eve will be around for another decade at least, or at least as long as Hilmar is around and doesn't go public IPO with CCP. If CCP goes public, I expect CCP to be another SOE.

More healthy than when Incarna happened, less healthy than when Incursion came out.
The health of EVE fluctuates, but it's unlikely to outright die any time soon. EVE dying will probably be a really long, drawn out process. |

When you don't know the difference between there, their, and they're, you come across as being so uneducated that your viewpoint can be safely dismissed. The literate is unlikely to learn much from the illiterate.
