The First Annual Freedom Fighter Of the Year Award

Struggle, agony and war have filled this year. This year we have seen our brothers and sisters fall in combat. We have seen our children taken in to slavery. We have seen our home systems transformed in to battle grounds and killing fields.
However, this is not all the year has held for the Minmatar Republic. We have seen our Elder's proud as we rise to fight each and every day. We have seen victory as we fight to free our people from their chains of bondage. We have seen glory as sons and daughter of the Minmatar Republic takes arms an battle on the front lines.
At the end of this difficult year we must pause a moment and give thanks. We give thanks to the Elder's. We give thanks to our tribes. We give thanks to those that have made it their single personal cause to take up the banner of the Minmatar Republic and fight for her. We give thanks to those that selflessly peruse freedom at all costs. The Freedom Fighter of the Year Award celebrates these individuals.
This year let us all come together to recognize those who made great strides in the freedom fight. Members of the Minmatar Republic are welcome to nominate Capsuleers that have been influential. Once the nominations are collected, all are invited to vote for who should receive the title of Freedom Fighter of the Year.
Along with the title, prizes will be awarded. The capsuleer with the most votes will be titled "Freedom Fighter of the Year" and receive a Faction Pirate Battleship of their choice. The Capsuleer with the second most votes will be titled "The Republic's Victor" and receive a Faction Navy Battleship of their choice. The 3rd highest voted Capsuleer will be titled "The People's Warrior" and receive a Stabber Fleet Issue.
Nomination Phase:
Gùï Nominations will be open from the tie of this post until YC 113.12.21 23.59:59
Gùï Any member of the Minmatar Republic can be nominated.
Gùï Nominations MUST include the name of the nominee and WHY they are nominated.
Gùï Nominations not fitting the above criteria will be discarded.
Gùï All nominees with qualified nominations will be placed on to a ballot.
Ballot:
Gùï The ballot will be open from YC 113.12.22 01:00:00 until YC 113.12.31 23:59:59
Gùï The ballot will be hosted [site to be determined].
Gùï Voting will be open to all and two votes can be made.
Gùï The Ballot will closed and totaled and the winners will be announced YC 114.01.01
Gùï Winners will be posted to this thread and the Tech4 News website.
Gùï Prizes will be sent to the winners via contract

It seems original ideas are a scarce commodity in Pator these days.
But, that doesn't mean one can't play along.
I nominate Maleatu Shakor, self-proclaimed 'San Matar' for crimes against humanity, including but not limited to genocide, disruption of Salvation Angels' humanitarian and relief efforts, despotism, racism and breach of several international conventions.

So what are you saying here? That only people who belong to the Republic can fight for the Republic?
It's somewhat ironic that Kazzzi's nomination for Amarrian Capsuleer of Year was accepted but your rules exclude him from this contest.
But then we Amarrians were always more open minded than the lesser races.

The poor fellow is always being accused wrongly yet he keeps fighting for the Republic as shown by his high Republic Fleet Standings. Showing one and all that no matter what is said actions speak louder than words.

As a loyal Amarrian and a member of the Tech4 News team, I personally cannot condone Tech4's support for this award. Whilst it saddens me that conflicts are ongoing, glorifying the violence is not something that should be encouraged by either side and certainly not advertised by the journalistic media.
I understand that a junior member of the Tech4 news team has been involved in the arrangements for this event and perhaps she did not represent Tech4's interests appropriately. Therefore I strongly suggest to the event organisers that this reward be approached in a less inflammatory manner or I will be forced to recommend to the Tech4 management that all support for this award ceremony be withdrawn.
I am not unsympathetic to the issues here, but lauding murderers is not an appropriate way to bring them to the attention of the general public. I am strongly of the opinion that Tech4 News should have no part in proceedings as they stand.

I agree with your points completely. In that regard, I vote for Arbane. As he has not killed any of my Amarr brothers; he fights for the values of the Minmatar without causing bloodshed - a very noble fight indeed.
In fact, one of his only recorded losses was a Tech 3 Loki class cruiser, and if I recall correctly he gave his own ship to allow the rest of his fleet to disperse safely into the shadows. |

Quote:In order to avoid accusations of political bias, a statement has been issued to the event organisers detailing that Tech4 News will have no choice but to withdraw sponsorship unless a less divisive and inflammatory tone can be taken. It is the hope of the board that the focus be diverted from the violent acts of war and be centred on awards for humanitarian efforts, emancipation and repatriation of the enslaved and their integration back into Minmatar culture.
It is hoped that a resolution can be found that suits all.

I, too, propose Arbane for nomination for his accuracy in intel I hear is impeccable. He does not see ships that do not exist and I find this a truly admirable characteristic. His attempts at peaceful intervention in these times of conflict by not shooting at 'hostiles' go a long way towards the peace effort. |

Avlynka is a warrior, yes. She is also a Shaman and a proud member of the Star-Fire clan. She is also my friend, and I've watched her and tried to follow by her lead. In addition to being an amazing and very capable pilot she is also very wise and knows that there is a need for peace and words. She recognizes that all peoples have in common these things: family and duty. She has become the former to me. And this is what sets her apart.

I would like to make two nominations.
Ava Starfire, for creating and leading a corporation I am proud to be a member of, as well as being one of the most excellent and fearsome combat pilots in the service of the TLIB. She taught me everything I know about hunting alone.
Arkady Sadik, for his continuing role in protecting the Republic's borders through Electus Matari and for leading some of the most organized fleets I have had the pleasure to be in. He showed me how a fleet should truly be run.

My fight has always been with the Amarr Empire, not the races from which it's composed. Whatever your specific motivations, you made a personal moral decision to change sides, likely at personal cost to yourself, with no particular reward other than the knowledge that you were doing the right thing. You now fight against your former allies and companions, who will most likely fight with additional fervor to see you fail and the vision you now support destroyed.
I'm not saying I trust you just yet, but I certainly have a whole lot of respect for you. Most certainly I can't fault your choice in corporations to throw your lot in with - or CEOs to serve under, although I imagine my nomination makes my opinion on that matter fairly clear already.

I vote for Ava Starfire, and not merely because she's my boss. She set an example that has lead me to aspire in becoming a better person, a better pilot and explore a heritage I before thought was meaningless.
She is a cunning fighter and has a character I haven't felt so inspired by since Jade Constantine. Jade, though, I was enamored with because I was young and easily impressed. Ava is much purer and shines through my growing cynicism, she has conjured within me a sense of agency I lost years ago.

As far as "freedom fighters", ie, those who are members of the TLF, I'd like to second the nomination for Sasawong. It is impossible to overstate his impact on the war effort.
The Minmatar people overall also owe an enourmous debt to the efforts of Dr. Evanda Char, and we should never forget what she and Electus Matari worked so fervently to give to us: the cure to the plague of our people. |
