Everything's been fine with my game until last night.
I usually run the game on two instances (two Eve's running) in window'ed mode, at a smaller resolution than my monitor is set at, so I can switch back and forth and do other things while I'm on eve.
Well suddenly when I log on last night, all of my settings are reset???
Everytime I load up the game now, they settings are reset, even if I switched them back to my usual preferences.
The resolution is very small, and other video settings are turned down. A alt character on my main account has his portrait up first (when it has always been my main character), and the chat in-game looks different.
I switch it all back, but by the time I restart the game, its back to reset again?!?!
Any clues guys?
One of my corp m8's advised I switch my password, which I did, but to no effect.

since you are running two copies of eve, i assume you know where they are installed,
delete the cache in both of them
i know this is the normal gm result but its the best advice i can offer for this

It sounds like your setting folder has become corrupt or non writeable. Rename your cache\settings folder to something like Settings_OLD and try re-run eve, setup some settings, quit the game and restart, see if that fixes the problem. ________________________________ ~Jiekon ~CCP QA

This is also occuring just loading up one Eve.
And it even keeps giving me the option of selecting, "Do Not Ask Me This Again" upon exiting the game, everytime dispite me clicking that.

I renamed the folder to Settings_OLD but nothing happened when I tested it in game.
Was there something else that I was supposed to do?

Um, what?
I did new settings in the game, as I said above, and it did not work.
So if your talking about something else, be so kind as to explain, what your talking about.

All i can think of now is rename the cahce folder to cache_OLD and try set all the settings, quit eve, and relog in. Or fresh install.
How are you quitting the game? try these after setting your settings to test : try ctrl+q, try escape > quit game, try pressing the red X then please post your results here. ________________________________ ~Jiekon ~CCP QA

I have been logging on, putting my settings back, and exiting the game by hitting Esc, and then selecting Quit Game.
And I'd very much prefer to not do a full reinstall... the last time I did that it deleted all of my notes and eve mails which I use.

Ok, try renaming the cache folder completely to see if this makes a difference. ________________________________ ~Jiekon ~CCP QA

Rename it to what, will it make a difference?
I'm trying Cache_OLD right now, but I just dont see how renaming the folder would make a difference... but then I didnt design the game so I'm going with you guys.

Changing it to cache_old forces the client to make a new version of the folder from scratch, this should fix any corruptions in the folder / files. If a file corruption is to blame, this will solve the problem and should allow the client to save any new settings you set
So in short, rename the cache folder to cache_OLD log into eve setup your client settings the way you want logout log back in let me know if the settings have been saved.
If this doesn't work, then the problem does not lie in the cache folder so i'll have to think of something else. ________________________________ ~Jiekon ~CCP QA

Make sure youre entire Eve folder isn't set as read-only. Select it, right click on properties, deselect read-only button if available and set to change all subfolders. Also before trying to reinstal, do a complete scandisk to rule out bad/corrupt sectors in your drive.
When you rename your settings folder, is a new settings folder created?

Ok, go to the EvE folder, right click it, click properties, uncheck the "read only" tab (this will appear to reset in windows if you view the properties again) apply the changes to all sub folders anf files and try once more.
If this doesn't work, all i can think of is, unfortunately, reinstalling the client. ________________________________ ~Jiekon ~CCP QA

I can second these problems with ESC menu settings , GFX resolution, overview settings and the various confirmation requests keep resetting, but strangely enough NOT my keyboard links ( alt+c for cargohold etc ).
There is no rhime nor reason to the restting, it can happen if I get booted if I qtrl Q ( only tried this for seeing if the bug happens) if I use the quit from the ESC menu.
I've noticed some setting files keep reverting back to read only/archive status when this happens.
I've even tried reinstalling from the latest complete install, but it just keeps happening. This only started occuring since the latest patch.
Using WinXP here.

I had this happen on my old rig a year or so ago. A support guy told me to check the local time settings (which in my case was borked) - fixed this and everything was fine again.
Hope it helps.

Local time settings yes, there might be a relation here.
Last night I noticed that my PC was running on Eastern Standard time, even though I'm on Central Standard. I found out that this is why it keeps switching the clock behind or ahead of me by two hours (dur, only took me a year to figure that out lol). So I changed it last night, but dont know if that would be the case for Eve of all things.
And no, the disk is not full, as someone else mentioned, I'm no where near getting it full (its big).

I have a similar problem with EVE messing up the 3d settings when I run two instances, each on a seperate screen of my dual monitor system. Only one of the windows gets graphics treatment, the other one is stuck with stock 3d settings, no AA, no anisotropic. It is a bit annoying, and it then freezes the settings, so I have to set both character definitions to the monitor that is rendering properly. I have no idea if the problem is with the client or with the ATI drivers though :(

This is also happening as well when I am running just one Eve instance. Everytime I start it up.
If I cant get it to stop doing it after I try the moving settings folder and re-install, I'll just do a full reinstall and go from there.
Just a shame to lose all of my notes.

Well after none of the above worked, I uninstalled and reinstalled the game, to no effect.
So I downloaded a new client, and installed it in a different location, and still, no effect. This bug is still plagueing me.
Is there no hope for me? Until now I have never had any trouble like this with Eve, or any other game...

Not to double post, but is there no hope? The only thing left that I know to do is to reformat my PC, and try then (which I wouldnt be doing just for that, I've been meaning to do it for a while, just to clear out junk I dont use, etc.).
And no, the PC harddrive is no where near full or anything.
Just, does no Dev. have any other ideas?

I didnt see an answer to the suggestion concerning antivirus. The EVE exe "profile" (as far as the antivirus program is concerned) changed in the patch. This will also make firewalls ask you again if EVE can access the internet.
Kill all virus scanners and firewalls just for the test, and give it a go. after terminating these programs, rename the cache and settings folders like before...so new ones are created.
you also didnt respond to suggestion of scandisking the drive for filesystem error....
if you dont have antivirus at all...its possible you picked up a virus at some point.

In reply to #46, I have already tried that to no effect.
The only option that I see left is to reformat the harddrive...
Which isnt so bad really, I have been meaning to do so for quite sometime, so I guess I'll just have to live with this unknown bug for a while until I can get to the store to get some blank CD/DVD's.
Not sure if I mentioned this, but I also checked my interal BIOS clock, and its on the right time and date. A corp. member of mine said that he had a very similar issue to me a while back, but it was because his BIOS clock was wrong, which isnt the case with me.
Another corp. member says that one of his PC's acts like this a lot for Eve, but his other one doesant.
Perhaps this is a more prevalient bug that should get some serious research done on it.
Still apprechiate all the help Jikeon (spelling?) and the rest gave me. I'll let you guys know how the reformat goes in a few days when I do it.
