I'm failing to see the fine moral distinctions people are making. Sometimes stealing and taking advantage of people is okay, and sometimes it isn't? I see people from alliances here posting condolences that have cheated in various ways themselves right and left, and who worship the GHSC, but this is some especially lame thing?
I don't really get it.
That said, I don't cheat, never would, and would never even think to do something like this corp theft. But it's funny to see people who, in other circumstances, praising those other things being so critical here.
Personally, I'd like to see the general tenor of conduct in Eve raised. More and more, it just seems like whatever you can get away with, you should. By that logic, this guy just made off with multiple billions. Good for him, I guess, at least by that reasoning. I don't agree with it, but plenty of other people do -- including people who have posted in this thread.
Nice post. Although the situation itself sucks, it is valid gameplay. Kinda like shooting n00bs at a station when they loot cans you drop sitting nearby in a battleship. Lame but still legal.
I don't really see the problem. Nobody is claiming he cheated...we're not going to petition him, and it wouldn't do any good if we tried.
That doesn't mean we can't hate him for what he did. Same as you can hate the guy who pods your ship...he didn't break any rules, but that doesn't mean you can't call him an ass (well, maybe you can't...given the word filter).
150+ people put their trust and a year and a half worth of work in this guys hands...of course we're gonna be ****ed when he throws it all away.
Sure, it's all a part of the game. But it still blows.

So according to some posters, this is how EvE should be played:
Exploiting game mechanics to rip off a corp = bad Exploiting game mechanics to spy on someone's TS = good Exploiting game mechanics to offline a POS = good Exploiting game mechanics to kill an afk titan = good Exploiting game mechanics to log out of a bubble = bad Exploiting game mechanics to logon trap = bad

I think the thing that is so jarring about this is that it wasn't like 'Annnddd, 20 Feb is the day I unveil my evil plan to clear out the corp and screw you all over. I've been planning it since the start! BWAHAHAHA!'
It seems more like he's just had a tantrum and is packing up his toys and going home, except he's taking everyone elses toys too. Not to mention screwing up standings and generally doing everything he can to rub salt in the wound. He's no master scam artist, he's just an unstable baby.
To be honest, the signs of his instability have always been there, and it's true that we kind of let this happen, but often the best leaders are those that are able to walk the razors edge of their own madness.
This is posted from someone without a long history in the corp, but with a long history in the group most of ARS C's membership is drawn from. It's gratifying to see from the posts in here that most of Eve know what kind of a group we are and are wishing us well in the challenges we now face.
He's thrown his tantrums before, too....
Sorry to hear that it ended like this. Good luck in the new corp, guys. "The future is exciting" |

Sorry to hear about this.
Its sad when someone abuses their power in a way that hurts everyone. Its bad enough to steal for virtual goods, its even worse when you try to screw up things so that your guys involved in a war can't do anything :(.
Normally I wouldn't suggest this. However since he is changing standings which is more than just corp theft and affects the war greatly, I would suggest perhaps every member of your corp filing a harassment petition against him. Hey might not do anything, but who knows maybe they'll ban him and though you probably won't get the stuff back at least he won't be able to enjoy it.

thats just messed up. its one thing for a thief/spy to infiltrate ranks to wreak havoc... but for a CEO to do it... just wrong.
compile a list of the most despicable things you could do to one person or a group in eve.
the top of the list, the worst of offences, is when a leader betrays the trust placed in him by the ppl that have rallied to his cause.
kinda reminds me of my last alliance (*cough*KOS*cough*demogod*cough*) oooo, had something in my throat there.

That sucks and all, but I have no pity for you.
It's a cut throat capitalist world, and you shouldn't bargain with people more than they have collateral to back it up. It's better to accept that you chose what happened by trusting the guy, because then you retain the ability to choose what you do next.
He traded in his cards for some isk. I guess it got to a point where that seemed a reasonable exchange to him. It's up to you, me, and the next guy to know when to pull out of any board.
If you worked without compensation beyond a promise, then you got what you asked for: words.
Best of luck in your future decisions.

Originally by: Tessa Vaako Early this morning, Ars Caelestis was hit by a corp thief of the worst kind. The person who was a part of community and served us as an excellent leader has taken leave of his senses and not only stripped all members of their roles but has also taken possession of all the corporate ISK and assets. Additioally he has seized over seven billion ISK that was being donated for a T2 BPO purchasing program. This person was not one whom we thought would ever be a problem, a kind and honest person who was always looking out for his corporation. As you can guess, this was the CEO of the corporation.
I will not go into details of what happened. Needless to say, he disagreed with the rest of his corp, and decided to cash in all his chips and leave the corp with nothing. As such, Achilles Thorongmor, Garion Thorongmor, and Bon Mot are now considered corp thieves.
The Ars Caelestis community will go on. We are already forming a new corp, and from the ashes of the old we will rise again to higher and loftier goals. I warn the rest of EVE, do not buy these characters as they will always be KOS to those of us who will never forget how he treated those loyal to him.
Any questions feel free to contact either myself or Fabienne Runestar in game.
That sucks Tessa! You guys rocked in ASCN good luck with reforming.

Edited by: Druadan on 21/02/2007 11:57:08 Saddened to hear of another corp thief activity. Achilles Thorongmor, Garion Thorongmor, and Bon Mot are now -10'd and KOS. It is one thing to take your own assets and leave a corp in a major disagreement, but to take the assets your corpmates have been working towards building? This is entirely unacceptable and is among the most heinous of crimes. __________________________________________________

I don't know a lot about your corp, however corp theft is, and will always be reprehensible in my eyes. Regardless of being vitual assets, the relationship ties you all had were real, and it sucks that someone would have so little regard for their mates.
You could do the 'glass is half full..' thing though - thank-fxxx that particular character is out of your lives.
We lost around 60bn isk due to corp theft over the years, and it bites. It's hard to find a good balance between player freedom / flexibility and corp security, and almost impossible to guard against a rogue CEO, but I'm guessing you will all grow from this and be better for it. I know we radically changed as a result and have benefitted massively in-turn.
Good luck
