Calling all mods, rockers, ravers, psychobillies, metalheads, post-punks, shoegazers, new wavers, proto-ambient post-retro metal-industrial/goth fusion eb movers, hip-hoppers, trip-hoppers and boogie-woogie bugle boys of Company B...
For a bit of fun we are thinking of having some music reviews in a future issue of E-ON; reviews of albums that are fitting to the experience of playing EVE (whether that be mining, fighting, or immersing yourself in Matari lore), but also music that could almost be an extension of the current EVE soundtrack. What IÆm saying it has to be a bit space-y, maybe a bit tribalà Actually IÆm a bit loathed to accept hardcore nutter metal reviews, but what the hell, anything goes. So long as the review is well written, fair and/or funny and you can connect the music to your EVE experience then go for it.
Please keep your reviews between 150-175 words, rate them out of five and EVEmail them to me and maybe for the best we can sort out some signed RealX loot, or some iTunes rations, or something. Maybe we'll even do this each issue.
HereÆs an example of what might be suitable (yes, the second is made up):
EON æVoid DwellerÆ (1992) 'Void Dweller' is a slice of nostalgia for old rave heads. Few of the white glove anthems of the 80's and early 90's stand the test of time, but this album definitely does. The problem is that û as was the vogue û there are countless film samples layered in, which constantly remind you that you are back on Earth: samples from Basket Case, Dune (the classic line æThe Spice must flowÆ) and various B-movies now lost to memory. Of note is the track 'Electromagnetic Waves' a slice of breakbeat trance in which you can almost imagine some distant listening post sifting through battle transmissions, while æDawn on a New WorldÆ could easily pass itself off as a Matari funeral march, before it transforms into a squeltchy race across the galaxy. But then those Hollywood samples keep breaking the connection. Without them Void Dweller might be essential, but then it wouldnÆt be classic rave either.

ROXOR æTwo Hundred ThousandÆ (2007) Having just finished a grueling European tour EVEÆs in-house dev band have finally released their debut album, all studio cover versions of their live set list. Even without the crowd, itÆs a rousing and eclectic compilation, ranging from crowd favorites æ<happy happy> BarÆ and æKilling in the Name ofÆ to the reworking of Leonard CohenÆs æHallelujahÆ from which the album takes its name. For a bunch of people more used to pondering binary, the musicianship is quite striking and variably coherent, in some cases, even original. However, when played in tandem with EVE itself, the last thing you want to be doing is mining. Coupled with a few beers, youÆre more likely to end up taking on the nearest ship and ending up in a pod, or worse, then waking up with a hangover. So although itÆs no measure of the quality of the album itself, sitting and playing EVE and RoXoR is a bad combination. You have been warned.

Mining Album:
Anathema: Judgement
Quite relaxing really, heavy sounds and nice deep guitarwall, this is exactly the music u want to listen 4 am when u still dont get sleep and are mining alone. Even when its not instrumental theres very atmospheric sound in every track. Theres definately that "red line" in the album and no song jumps out from it wich is good thing in this case. Vocalist sound is immersive and a bit spooky, wich reminds you that you should be watching local all the time...

Combat Album:
Racer X: Technical Difficulties
Paul Gilbert in guitar so what can you expect ? Theres lot of different hard rhythms and the tempo is hard troughout the album. Some riffes make you feel like a superhero and helps you get that last drop of adrenaline running. Alltho i allways drop "Waiting" track out of my playlist. Excelent album if you go soloing and looking for fight. minus side is that this album aint so "spacy" and lacks depth in sounds. Also Vocalist doesnt fit the music as much as i would hope.

Allaround Album:
Joe Satriani: Crystal Planet
Well well, its hard to find any better or more suitable music to listen while drifting in space doing whatever you feel like. The fact its instrumental helps a lot becouse something in me says that Ronnie James Dio aint exactly the dude im gonna hear in local matar station. Album is just too good to be true. While there are of course long guitar solos in tracks Satriani manages to keep it in control and the album aint just one lengthy guitar solo, Theres actually songs in it, can u believe that?

For Coolness factor
For Heavy rock (adrenaline bumping abilities)
For being good music
Disapointing

I've always found that there are several things that work well with Eve.
www.bluemars.org This site has 3 streaming audio channels. Each channel has different artists and seems to have a different genre. The songs are a track or two from each artist's CD. Some of them are absolutely perfect, some of them are barely noticeable (because you couldn't care less or because it fits so well you don't realize it), some of them you want to hit the fast forward button. Overall a good choice.
Other good groups that I listen to are Astral Projection (Israeli Trance duo), Orbital, and Crystal Method. -----

Floyd. Anything by pink floyd, especially "Dark side of the moon", and "Momentary Lapse of reason".
I also like GOOD rock music... But also some newer stuff too. But mainly floyd, and since I have every album, some on vinyl - yes, I AM old - it's worth listening to.

Almost anything by Nine Inch Nails goes well with different aspects of EVE. However the latest (read: upcoming) release will probably be especially so. I've only heard 4 songs thus far, but they're all great. Just look at the track listing:
Hyperpower The Beginning Of The End Survivalism The Good Soldier Vessel Me, I'm Not Capital G My Violent Heart The Warning God Given Meet Your Master The Greater Good The Great Destoyer Another Version Of The Truth In This Twilight Zero-Sum
If that doesn't scream "fitting to the experience of playing EVE" then I don't know what does!

Pvp Music
Aborted: All the cd's. The insane deep growls and the fast drumming are just amaizing, gets the adrenaline flowing trough your body
Cryptopsy : None So Vile, this cd is almost one of the best death metal cd's in the whole world, That drummer is so fast that it blows my brains out. just check it out for yourself Linkage
Then its ofcourse the gatecamping music Arcturus : Sideshow Synphonies, This Cd is just amaizing in it's strange way,Vortexes awsome singing always gets me giggling and gets my mind from the boring big bubbles and the hope of a fleet coming trough...
Cradle oF Filth: All the old cd's before Cruelty, Altho i think cruelty and all the cd's after that are good but dont have tha same athomsphere, I reconmend Dusk and her embrace or Vempire. Danis insane vocals just get me each time.
 Solo pirate music
Gorgoroth : Well all theyr cd's are awsome, every single one, But what stand's up the most for me is Under the sign of hell, it makes you feel more evil when you are killing that hauler and it just gives you a grate feeling
Twisted Sister: My favorite twisted sister cd is Stay hungry, its always good for pirating because it makes you feel so rebelious and ofcourse because dee is so sexy
Mining Music I dont mine that much anymore except when im relly desprate for isk, So i usually listen do depressive stuff to remind me that im doing a shamefull thing
Silencer: Death- Pierce me, it took me quite some time to get used to nattramns vocals they are pretty extreme and funny at first, but listen to it a few times and youl see how pain full the Screams are, He accually cut himself while singing to make the vocals more painfull. He was institusionised shortly after the cd because of the sick touring.... Myspace
Sterbend Yet another Depressing Black Metal band, From germany this time, he got the same vocal stile as nattramn in silencer but its not as extreme, very depressing and helps with the mining
Missioning Music
I basicly listen to my whole Playlist (its accually around 20gb and around 16 days but.. )
Casual stuff like, Cannibal Corpse, Emperor, Cryptopsy, Aborted, Deeds of Flesh, Dying fetus, Satanic Warmaster.... so on and so on
I could have made a Lot longer list but im just to tired
Hope it was any help to the metalheads in eve :) Biggest black and death metal fan in iceland |

Absolutely. The easy going psychadelic sounds of Meddle and Dark Side of the Moon are always company to me. For PvP? especially Pirating? AC/DC all the way. For ratting? Any easy-sounding (though not necessarily soft) bluesy 70's rock. The Eagles, Led Zep, you know. Something to have playing in the background. Also, I enjoyed the Battlestar Galactica season 1 soundtrack very much. - "The Mains Created the alts They rebelled They look...and feel...human Some are programmed to think they are human There are many alts. I'm no music critic - in fact I'm hard pressed to find much thoughtful music that I dislike. Tear apart at your own discretion.
Grandaddy - Under The Western Freeway
An album for sucking roids if ever there was one, this would be equally well placed for those moments when you're staring at a black screen in Jita. Music that makes you just not care any more. There are two tracks that don't quite fit - 2) "AM 180" and (if I remember the tracklist correctly) 7) "Summer Here Kids" - but as long as the rats turn up at this point or the grid finally loads, it should remain quite fitting. Technically I suppose it's "california rock-pop" - at least, if you chuck it into Pandora you'll get back stuff like Pavement.
Advisory: Falling asleep at the keyboard is quite probable. Especially halfway through the fifteen minutes of cricket sounds...
Nick Drake - Pink Moon
Ideal for those long hauler trips, this is possibly the greatest album to leave the british isles in the last 40 years next to <insert beatles album here>. Uncomplicated and heartfelt, if this doesn't get to you you're dead inside ;) Technically, this is "folk" bordering on "folk-rock" but don't let that put you off.
Mogwai - Come On Die Young
Who'd have thought good music could come out of Glasgow? You'll either love it or hate it - works equally well for both ratting/missioning and PVP. Technically "post-rock" I suppose, but it's a must-hear at any rate.
Yo La Tengo - The Sound Of The Sounds Of Science
Another mining album, like the first recommendation this album comes with a warning: if listened to at the end of a day you may stop caring, and will probably fall asleep. This album jumped out at me - but don't bother looking up anything else in their reportoir if this appeals to you, as it's one of a kind.
Sigur Ros - () (CCP - can you tell me what the hell to make of this name? )
I love this album, but you feel like a fool listening to this in anything small and fast. Save it for those freighter runs...

Call me nutter but anything by Hybrid usually gets me going just fine. Albums: Wide Angle (1999), Morning Sci-fi (2003) or I Choose Noise (2006).
Anything by Above and Beyond also works. They don't really have much of an individual albulm, as they do mostly re-mixes and individual artists work in Japan, Europe, and the US.
Yes Trance-like. I have other tastes though. Muse Yeah Yeah Yeahs Boards of Canada ATB Tiesto Massive Attack Blank and Jones Filter Unkle
Heck, I usually just plug it all into Pandora. (No ofence to EVE music, but it just plain makes me lose interest if I keep that on.) My list of what I like is very big. I could go on about the 80's music that I love...
Someone mentioned sondtracks...I'm a geek, I sometimes stick on some Star Trek music CD's and have MP3's of music from Morrowind, Icewind Dale, Baulders Gate, and a few other games that I sometimes put on. I'll certainly have to try the Dune recommendation. (And if you want to try wied, try the soundtrack from the movie: Event Horizon. it was doen by Orbital and fits EVE:Dark and creepy.)
For any J-pop, J-rock fans, I'm a tad old school having lived there in the late 90's, but Supercar rocks (I actually knew them in RL, from Hachinohe-shi in Aomori-ken.). I also tend to favour re-mixes of old Ayumi Hamasaki and the like. (Above and Beyond for example did sweet as re-mixes there)

Monster Magnet: Tab
A solid slab of pure psychedellic sound, and mostly instrumental this is the real Magnet experience. The first track (Tab) weighs in a 35 minutes of stoned echoing psychedelia with insane mutterings and creeping sound echos... Spaced out in the extreme, makes you think that Spine of God was selling out!
Asteroid - Kyuss. Says it all - An instrumental soundscape that conjours images of a rock rolling through space. Ideal for long journeys, setting bookmarks and mining. Goes on for ages, much like mining....
Another Girl, Another Planet - The Only Ones. Ok its about smack, but the first line sums up 90% of the Eve Player base, "I always flirt with death, I'll get killed but I Don't care about it'. Actually a jaunty number, short but sweet, with plenty of space travel 'metaphor'. One for the mission runners among you.
Ladys and Gentlemen We are Floating in Space - Spiritualised. Little bit of everything for everyone. From PVP killing in Come Togeather and Electricity, to carefree mining in 'Love in the Afternoon' to hunting for prey to Cop Shoot Cop (with Dr John on Piano). Beautiful sounds, from one of the worlds pre-eminment amatur Astronaunts....
Miners Song (Individual Track of the March 18-23 Album) - Uncle Tupelo - An old Wobbly classic about the plight of miners, the poor wages and the hard dangerous work. Ideal for inciting the mob to lynching Farmers and Macros... Hard Country folk, but thats ok because its about miners, and nothing is more mining than country folk.
L'Internationale and the Red Flag - Easily downloaded, and the most well known songs of rebellion outside of American Dixie, ideally suited for all Gallente Freedom Fighters and Matari anti-Slavers, all you need now is the berret and a little beard and the Evil Empire will fall. Alternatively if a more Brutor sound is required, replace with any of the Rage Against the Machine Albums.
Wagners Ride of the Valkyre - Should be played over Comms. Scares the **** of of Sanchas.

No one's mention Rush yet? Its one of the best band's to play Eve to imo.
Rush - Permanent Waves An excellent album by the progressive-rock trio Rush. It begins with classic rock staples Spirit of Radio, and Freewill, which has a nice sound to it while you're blasting through space. The album continues like this through the final song, the mini-epic Natural Science, concerning man's responsibility to the arts and science, which is divided into a calm intro, followed by three distinct, high-energy parts, with a distinct futuristic feel. The album is a good listen throughout, and easily one of the band's best.

Excellent choice sir.
After listening to it earlier, I think "French Disco" by Stereolab would be a great accompaniment to a PvP vid featuring Gallente.
Might I suggest "Rocks" by Primal Scream for mining to. (unless its already been mentioned). Alternatively, "Every Day is Like Sunday" by Morissey

Definitely Sigur Ros -- () and Takk are good, but my favorite is still -gµtis Byrjun. Ethereal rock with bowed guitar and lyrics in a language that even Icelanders cannot understand! What could be better for hanging around in the vacuum of space?
In answer to the previous question, the band is named after the lead singer's sister.
Phillip Glass isn't bad either...

Hmm I thought I'd posted here before... nevermind.
To me, nothing beats Dragonforce. Especially their song 'Through the Fire and Flames'. Other bands of note that I listen to are Nightwish (with the old singer, not the new one...), Rhapsody, Stratovarius, Avantasia, Sonata Arctica, and Within Temptation. Other 'power metal' bands like Children of Bodom who have a singer who sounds like he's trying to **** out an elephant while being electrocuted...... no thanks.

Scatterbrain 'Infernal Angel' Hectic, darkly themed fullon psytrance rich with soaring synth melodies that feel like electric turkey knives carving through frontal lobes. I've never found another album which so perfectly utilizes voice samples from film and TV, ranging from starwars to 2001: A Space Odyssey and even one from the brady bunch "More spaghetti Mr Brady? - Mmm! Alice, what kind of mushrooms did you put in this sauce?". Always gets me in the mood to go 8k/s with autocannons blazing. "If only you knew the power of the dark side..."

Combat Music : Arch enemy "Anthems of rebellion" album, Agathodaimon "Serpents embrace" or Nightwish's "Once" Although out of randomness, if i know im going to get into a fight ill play "For those who fight further" by the black mages.. :p Your signature exceeds the maximum allowed filesize of 24000 bytes -Kreul Intentions ([email protected]) |

Ones in particular that I tend to have replaying are;
- Recruiting Sargeant (combat; there's some good history behind the Blue Puttees, btw) - Seagulls (mining) - General Taylor (mining) - The Night Pat Murphy Died (combat or mining) - Ordinary Day (mining; very ironic tune for mining) ____

Artist: Eat Static Album: Abduction
Review: I would say this fits best into the "ambient" category - it is computer-generated music that has a distinct other-worldy feel about it that suits the immersive aspect of EvE brilliantly. The tracks range from relaxing, entrancing, rhythmic melodies to harsh, jarring, jolting cacophonies. This album is definitely one that benefits from a high quality audio system that can deliver a decent Bass punch.

I love this track actually, despite it being composed entirely of slow, droning Bass. Also v.good for testing the limits of your subwoofer...

PVP Roaming Gang = Hatebreed, Hostility and Devildriver. keeps your blood high and makes you want to take on a domi in a thrasher! PVP gatecamp = Tool and some of the heavier Perfect circle Missions/Ratting = A Perfect Circle. it's all about pace and timing. apc fits the pace of missions and ratting, slightly rushed but relaxing. Mining = Eve Music, i dunno, it just fits, ambience. can't beat it for feeling like youre the only one within 100au.
