you called redswarm corrupt, and i ask why. if you cant answer the question then dont call them corrupt.
EDIT - could you elaborate abit on the bpo thing please, this is something ive missed and i'd like to hear more.
well Munchy, you seem to have problems comprehending what you are reading. You haven't indicated that English isn't your first language (if it isn't, just say so and well let it slide), but since you haven't, let me spell it out for you.
the line says "... corruption which follows the Swarm...."
the key word there is "follows". Thus, we are not accusing the Swarm themselves of being "corrupt", it's just our way of saying they are ruining the regions they are rampaging through.
So off on your way to some other thread mr goonie apologist
you are infact right and i apologise, english is my first language (i guess i should have payed abit more attention at school)
i missenterpreted what you said, though i would like to know in what ways they are 'ruining the regions' that they control/invade.
also, you should try being abit more civil, im not actually a massive fan of goonswarm myself, im more of a hater of people who throw around accusations without backing them up.
now maybe you will stop the name calling and use these forums for their intended purpose, discussion.
more civil? I only responded in kind. I am the OP. You responded with a post that is usually viewed in these parts as an attempt to derail a thread. And it was based on a mis-comprehension of my post. I then responded with a post that mocked you attempt to mock me (the whole 4tw bit). I was also trying to give you a chance to go back and re-read my post so that you could see your error. Instead you failed to do so and instead continued to press your mis-conception. (and make some refernce to something about a bpo which I have never mentioned) At this point I was forced to spell out your error and I chose to do so using a language convention called "sarcsim", which is commonly used for "humor" not "lack of civility".
Yes, I stooped to name calling. sorry 'bout that.. couldn't resist at that point.

Crashing nodes to take systems ins't cheating / corruptness?
Fielding huge fleets is not cheating. If you can prove anything beyond that feel free to do so ... with your main plz.
Most people consider Eve client modifications cheating.
Tbh this doesn't look like client modification. It rather looks like replacemant of pictures. I don't know if the client verifies pictures in cache. I highly doubt so since it would be horrible database load. This is not cheating exactly. Althoug i admit it could be used to gain sort of advantage in some situations.
its classed as gaining an unfair advange and clinet modifycations = breach of eula = bannabel
Except for the part where you know, the Devs said it was ok?
Even if we pretend the devs didnt ok it, how exactly is having a different portrait gonna affect the game in anyway?

you dont seem to be understanding anything that i have said, so i will explain it to you.
i did not attempt to derail this thread or mock you, i simply asked for evidence of what i BELIEVED you accused redswarm of, i dont believe accusations should be made without evidence to back them up. later you corrected me and i APOLOGISED for misreading your post.
the "bpo thing" was posted by another member, i simply thought that considering his post with right above mine that people would read that first, and understand i was reffering to that post.
now, you say i FAILED to re-read and understand your post. im not sure why you are saying this as the second you pointed it out i apologised. i amditted you were right.
sarcasm is almost impossible to determine in text which is why i personally never use it. im gonna ignore the patronising part of you post too, because we will simply never get anywhere if i dont.
so, in what way are redswarm ruining the regions they're invading? ---

OHGOD freely admitted to using the portrait pack, their members were not banned for using portrait pack. The same utility as the pack (show standings) was implemented in the next major pack. Trying to decry them for something that happened like a year ago and they didn't get in trouble for when investigated is pretty dumb.

As munchy said - please back that statement up with a link to a dev post saying it's okay to breach the EULA and do client-side modifications.
Instead of banning goons (this was an alliance-wide modification) they added the small color dots in our chat - guess $ > ethics in Iceland.

They aren't really gaining an advantage, just they don't have to click on everyone's name and waste time. It was obviously a necessary thing because it was added in just like you said. Sticking in an iron clad manner to the rules just because they're the rules isn't ethical it's dumb and lacks reasoning to back up punishments/whatever.

Nice hearsay evidence from a non-EVE website about an incident from 8 months ago DS, that was pretty helpful.

Edited by: Laura Baretta on 25/02/2007 22:14:57 Good job to the OP, and good luck.
and to the haters:
I can't stand people playing Massive multiplayer online roleplaying games saying that they don't like roleplaying.
If someone chooses to stay in character on the forum everybody should just respect that, and suck down any retarded comments. Think first, then type... a lost art i guess.
Same goes for all the hating going on. If thats not roleplaying then alot of people have some serious trouble irl if they need to take this game that serious.
Basically, even if you dont like roleplaying, you are still roleplaying. You try to be some uber pvper, you want respect, you want to be feared? You're a roleplayer. You play Eve, you're a roleplayer because you try to find your role and place in EvE.
Now please do us all a favor, stop posting on this forum and play the damn game.

You should ask Evolution a few things about their recruitment process in that case. If account sharing was a serious breach 25% of Eve's playerbase wouldn't be around.

As is said this is NOT a client modification. The client does to not verify the portraits. The reason for this is: checking all portraits would mean extreme database load whenever anyone jumps. Or the other way around it would take like half an hour to log in. Noone wants that so content of cache folder is not verified. This means you can remove any portrait from your cache folder to reduce loading time in heavily crowded systems. But it also means you can replace them with whatever you want. You just gotta make sure the client can render them. And if the portraits where meant to be verified on jump, what if a hostile fleet decides to change their portraits before attacking you? This would cause your client to download like several hundreds of portraits in worst case. So what's worse? Lagging out for CCP earning bucks on this or just leave it the way it is?
