The same here. Sound quality seems to be at the same level as Ventrilo and far better than TS. Unfortunately you almost can't understand anyone since the overall volume level is far too low. Actually you can change Mic input level when you're not in a audio channel but as soon as you join a chat channel it will be reset to default.
Is there any workaround for the volume issue?

is there a way to turn up mirophone volume. With the eve chat enabled, it locks my settings at a very low level, and mic boost will not engage. Fixing it using the sounds control in windows does not help (its locked also).

Edited by: John McDuff on 07/03/2007 20:51:34 I like the way its integrated and how it manages to actually enable and diable my bluetooth headset like it should, something where so many apps fail. A big problem is like posted before the low outgoing volume, something which will have me like many others prefer TS or vent. The binds also need some tweaking, a single button is a must and the middle mouse thing does not work as it should. It switches the action menu back to left, which i have always found very awkward. Now you can fool the game by forcing the action menu back to the mid button, effectively disabling it - but that will probably bother people that use this menu. Another thing that bothers me a lot is the amount of CPU it consumes on my machine. I haven't seen anyone else mention this but on my aging box (Athlon XP 2400+ on 333 FSB MB) it makes the FPS difference between fine and jerky (25-35 down to around 15 with an open channel).
That's all I have found out for now. Lots of small issues that probably are easily resolved before introduction although the CPU thing might be a can of worms...

Been using it; a few things I've noticed that need improvement:
1. It's been noted, but you need to be able to map it to a single button. 2. If you have sounds on, it becomes quite hard to hear. I like to have EVE come through my speakers and use Vent on my USB headset. Can't do this yet, but I'd like to be able to. 3. I like the fact that it works with my USB headset and I don't have to disable my soundcard. 4. The quality is not great. I noticed a little static when people are talking and sometimes, when I'm talking, there is a horrible echo/reverb. 5. Needs Logitech G15 support. I love Vent because it has G15 support and I can see the channel I'm in and who is talking without switching outside of EVE. The little green icon is not cutting it when I'm reading another channel. 6. Microphone boost does not work. Also, "Input Volume" doesn't seem to have any effect - no one has complained about my overpowering voice yet. One thing I really like about Vent is that it has Volume normalization - people that talk too soft are amplified and people that talk too loud are toned down. Can't do that with this - it's more dependent on individual speaker/microphone settings, etc.
That's about it for now. I'll update if I think of more things later.

Doesn't appear to work with cedega engine 5.2.10, with either oss or alsa audio selected.
As someone already stated earlier: I don't get local or corp chat at all, not even text mode, have heard I don't show in those channels either.. unless I add voiceenabled=0 to prefs.ini, then I get usual local and corp, of course no voice chat ;)

Several members of my corp have this enabled. So far we haven't been able to test it much due to the most regular online people having issues, namely
1) Clicking "Join Audio" does nothing, no error, no message, the option does not change to "leave audio" .. zip. This could because this person has a Realtek soundcard .. bug report submitted. 2) Clicking "Join Audio" crashes the client, no error, no message just CTD. 3) Strangest one of all that affects only one person, this character/account gets NO chat channels at all when they login. They have tried enabling / disabling sound, deleting their cache, using another PC. That persons second account which was not Vivox enabled is fine.

Few things: - When hitting the hotkey it takes about a second before the icon goes green, I don't know if the other guys can hear me before it does. - It would be nice to map the hotkey to any other key than middle mouse. - A test mode under options where you can hear yourself to verify your settings.

Well I am probably one of many Windows Vista users that are really happy about the voiceenabled=0 option in the prefs.ini file, cince without that I could not even get into Eve at all. About the Eve Voice testing, seams like can not be done on Vista yet.

What do you like about it? It's nice to have chat in Eve, sound quality was decent.
What donĘt you like about it? I couldnt set a key on my mouse for voice activation, using MX100 Logitech. I couldnt increase the volume, I could hardly hear people.
What suggestions do you have for the client? Don't bother putting voice in it.
What features would you like to see added to EVE Voice? Better volume control and key recognition.

What do you like about it? It's easy to communicate this way, coordinate missions, makes life easier
What donĘt you like about it? Hope that another button will be available to talk, mid mouse button is sometimes hard in the middle of a battle. It seems to hang my client sometimes. Some people are really soft. Most are good to hear.
What suggestions do you have for the client? Another activation button, auto-sense?
What features would you like to see added to EVE Voice? Better volume control and key recognition.

What do you like about it? It has good uses such as recruitment, "hailing" another ship in certain situations. For some corps it could eliminate the use of vent and teamspeak.
What donĘt you like about it? It has a time delay before you speak which could be the difference of warping your corp to a camped gate or not. It is also simply annoying.
What suggestions do you have for the client? Get rid of the delay, Make it so when you click the tab to whatever channel you go to have the voice activate on it or at least make an option for that.
What features would you like to see added to EVE Voice? Make a proximity system were if you get within XXKM you can hear the other person if they choose to speak. This could be good for "hailing" another ship as all Sci-Fi shows have shown. Only problem is you would need a way to moderate it im sure there are many NUBCAKES that will scream racial slurs and play absurd music. ALSO don't forget a mute button so we don't have to hear the carebears.

What do you like about it? For me, the sound quality is much better than TS or Vent. There is no noise when using EVE Voice. On TS/Vent I really have to struggle to hear what some ppl are saying.
What donĘt you like about it? Sometimes I can't hear what ppl are saying, because the game sounds effects are louder than the voice. Other than that, I like everything as long as it stays free to use ;)
What suggestions do you have for the client? I would suggest to put in a separate volume control for the EVE Voice sound, or e.g. make all other sounds automatically lower when someone is talking. Personally, I'd go for the first option though.
What features would you like to see added to EVE Voice? Giving voice admin to gang boss, so he can mute other ppl. E.g. so only commander and wing leaders can talk, or they have priority if everyone is talking at once.

There is few few problems i have found with with the ingame voice.
1. The voice icon comes on 4secs to late when you speak.
2. Push to talk button sticks sometimes.
3. The microphone boost can not be put on.
4. Sometimes i hear another member on the ingame voice have a lot of static tho i have asked them to send a bug report.
5. A few member have had problems with the middle mouse button where they tick the option it work for a few hours then forgots it when they look it had unticked it's self.

What do you like about it? A: more sence of secuirity unlike vent/teamspeak the intell in the gang stays in the gang channel. No more vent/teamspeak spies lol!
What donĘt you like about it? A: Heard rummers that this service was going to increase the subscription to eve.
What suggestions do you have for the client? A: I have a gamer mouse and i use a spacific button (on the side of the mouse) for voice activation, realy sux that its restricted to the middle button.
What features would you like to see added to EVE Voice? A: would be nice if in gangs/fleets the boss/fc could mute people that are anoying. |»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»|*\___ | - - - - - The Beer Truck - - - - |__|_|_\__ |__________________________________|__|_|_|__ll »l*(@)(@)»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» |

What do you like about it? - Nice sound quality - Integration with the game and channels
What donĘt you like about it? - I can't control the volume. It's way to low - I can't turn all the eve sounds off but keep vivox sound on
What suggestions do you have for the client? - add volume knobs to all sounds (i can't seem to be able to turn ambient sounds off without turning all sounds off.
What features would you like to see added to EVE Voice? - The icon that lights green to say who is speaking won't be very usefull in big group. A popup icon or the name being displayed in the overview (create a new entry at the top of overview?)
I'll send more feedback when i have more experience with vivox. regards

Unfortunately I am not the type of player that understands all the technical stuff that goes on inside my pc, it has an on button and it works
Running on a 4 and a half year old machine with 2666Mhz intel processor with a C-Media sound card (I think).
What do you like about it?
Sound quality was excellent. Very little, if no delay in sound. Had no additional problems with running eve, no additional CTD's or lag. Found middle mouse button more user friendly than a keyboard button to activate voice. Having used TS and Ventrillo and to a small degree Skype, much preferred this.
What donĘt you like about it?
Getting it to work in the first place was the only frustration, had to reassign what the middle button on my mouse was for, found by accident that there was a setting called "middle button", hey presto voice works
Only issue was icon to show who was active on voice was not accurate and shifted between characters when I scrolled up or down the chat window.
What suggestions do you have for the client?
? - not being technically minded I have no idea
What features would you like to see added to EVE Voice?
Continue to work on the ideas submitted at the 2006 fanfest!

As far as the sound quality goes, EVE voice sounds great. But, in its present form, it won't replace TeamSpeak.
First... you nead to be able to map it to a key other than the middle mouse button.
Second, until you have the functionality at least similar and on par with TS and Vent, you won't get people paying for EVE-Voice.
Habits are hard to break, and right now ppl are simply used to TS and Vent. You'll have to give them something better to replace it, and at the moment EVE voice is not there. -----------------------------------------------

What do you like about it? - I like the fact that I can run a voice server with out having to have a second program running in the background eating up some extra cpu, but mainly I like the fact that I can see who's talking without having to minimize the client during a bad time.
What donĘt you like about it? -well sometimes it "sticks" the push to talk, and you are always transmiting. Thats about it. Oh and most of the time the green talk icon stays white for a second when the other person starts to talk, but they still go through, was just a bit confusing at first.
What suggestions do you have for the client? - The ability to mute certain people at certain times would be pretty cool, also a way to stop a person from hearing you say something without having to block them completly(I.E. You and two real life friends play eve, we will call them friend b and friend c, since you are friend a. Its friend b's birthday, and you and c are trying to talk out a plan on a surprise party later in the week. When all of a sudden b logs on and joins the audio feed? oh noes. You say hi then both call afk and block from transmiting to him, and continue to plan )
What features would you like to see added to EVE Voice?
err see above.

You can map it to another button besides the middle mouse, hit escape button in your client, go to shortcuts, and scroll down to talk. right click, edit shortcut. \o/ there you go.
p.s. if you want to map it to a single key, it has to be either ctrl, alt, or shift. you click the box corresponding to that button, then in the box at the bottom where you would add in the second button to trigger you speaking, just hit that same button.

Edited by: Rethe Henney on 09/03/2007 23:10:50 What do you like about it? In-game, no other software, no server with ip/password to share. Easy to use.
What donĘt you like about it? Unable to setup volume correctly, the icon in the people list useless in a chat with a lot of people. The fee to use it will make it less interesting 'cause not all people will use it. I have the feeling that the function is still insufficiently joined into EVE.
What suggestions do you have for the client? Add a small text on the top of the screen with the name of the speaker (if something like that exist I don't see it). Make an interface more specific for the Voice function where we can manage it (banned; friends; language; AFK tag; ...).
What features would you like to see added to EVE Voice? Right-click > Voice : on a pilot to immediate (private) connection with it.

also an output volume control for the eve voice, im not sure if it is on the wave channel in windows volume control or not, i would like to see it separate cause i listen to music on my computer while i play and if i turn the music down i can't hear the other players

That was me.
On logging in the first time after I was enabled for Voice, I had no channels. I could join or be invited to channels but did not get any by default. This included Corp and Local: I appeared in Local but not in Corp. Upon launching I might get several of my player-owned channels back. Upon changing system I would get Local back. I could find no way of getting Corp back.
I finally found a solution which was to add voiceenabled=0 to my prefs.ini file. This gives me all of my channels back, but obviously means I cannot use Voice.
My sound hardware is SoundBlaster Live!. I do have onboard AC97 sound but it is disabled in the BIOS settings.

Quote: What do you like about it?
Not having ts running. Builtin sound works (EPoX nf3 ultra, realtek)
Quote: What donĘt you like about it?
Laggier than ts. Takes 2-3s to actually start sending sometimes. Mic Boost Doesn't work. Having to scroll through the char list to see who is talking. No documentation.

Something like ts overlay that says who is talking. Channel command, guess you could use seperate channels. Full documentation needs to be included, maybe I could try looking :p clinko The official high priest of buy. All Hail Buy!

Plantronics USB Audio/headsets do not show up as a viable Input source on the Voice tab.
Can an option be added to run Voice chat ONLY as a sound option (ie all game sounds/music off except voice).
Push to talk has a large amount of lag associated with it, 2-5 seconds before it activates. Default mic gain/boost should be adjusted upwards, all corpies who are getting mics to work are reporting having to crank it almost to max to get it audible over game sounds.
Slow connections on clients seem to generate a VERY low quality audio signal (they sound like robots)
Aurora talks over the top of the voice chat drowing it out (see above on Vchat only option).
So far looking fair for a beta program, hope to see a patch soon with some revisions. GameClubCentral's EVE Writer |

Worked off the bat for me.
Minor issues I noticed..
1) Voices were VERY SOFT. not sure if this is their mic settings, or what, but it was very hard to hear people. 2) Needs a better "VOX" button option.. (unless i missed it). only having it map to "middle mouse" is cool for trials, but sucks long term. 3) Look at the current "TS Chatter" / "vent overlay" programs out there.. give us an option to see who is talking when you have 20-50 people in a corp chat window. maybe put their name in green or red in the top middle of the screen or something..
Looks good for an unfinished product.. I'll post more when I get more time to play with it!

1. Sound quality varied but many of my corpmates were either completely garbled or couldn't transmit at all. This is the most critical issue and as it stands now Vivox is unuseable for our corp.
2. Managing voice across many chat channels becomes overwhelming and discourages people from using it.
3. Some members in-corp with win2k now can't even join the Alliance or Corporation chat windows for text-only chat.
4. Need to have voice comms active even if Eve client crashes. We have this now with Teamspeak.
