1.
Its easy ( doesnt take a rocket sciencetist to figure it out)
Its convenient ( No ips address to type in or pw to remember )
2.
Has very poor voice qaulity ( People sound like a monotone robot )
Has no hands free talk ( Some people cant push to talk and pvp at the same time , were already useing the whole fricken keyboard with our ten fingers)
3.
Add some options as far as channel commander, volume control , mute, (afk, brb, sleeping, taking a ****,) avater, a translator for those other dman foreign people ( ffs i cant underdstand a damn word there saying : what the %$ did you say ?

There seems to be a 4 second delay on the voice icon turning green when pushing down the button to speak, it transmits voice once you push the button down but the light delay throws people off.
The Mic Boost box can't be selected and some people just come in way too low.
Some other bits too, but I can't remember.

Edited by: Marine HK4861 on 10/03/2007 07:21:27 What do you like about it? Ease of setup.
Good sound quality, although you may have to go into Windows to play around with sound settings.
Works independently of EVE sound.
What donÆt you like about it? Little/no documentation on how it works - a lot of posters above were complaining of sound volumes, which is easily fixable from Windows.
Can be hard to keep track of which channel you have audio in, especially with multiple channels open.
Delay in voice indicator (green microphone) to see who's speaking.
What suggestions do you have for the client? You can still hear blocked people's voices. This needs to be addressed, unless you want an increase in harassment petitions.
What features would you like to see added to EVE Voice? I can't think of any new features and most of the above improvments would pretty much make it perfect for my purposes.

The things I see so far
voice quality is exellent but to replace TS it will need the following.
1 voice activation and activation level ajustibility and not just push to talk.
2 input and output volume control with a MUCH wider range than is presently available (some people are barely audible others are so loud it's not funny.
3 the ability for gang or squad commanders to have voice comms communication with another gang (for coordinated attacks).
that's about all I can think of atm.

Edited by: Anara Shaw on 10/03/2007 12:41:03 Hiya in response to your evemail asking for feedback:
- What do you like about it? Well I love the the way you can now speak to people in channels such as corp and private convo, and of course the special importance of in gang. It is a kickass development that is well recieved by both me and my friends. If i can say one thing I like about it is that it is very clear. People's voices are very clear when transmitted.
- What donÆt you like about it? Simply put.... its too low. We can't hear anything, (well just about), very clear but TOO low, as we cannot select the microphone boost option in audio settings menu it actually sucks.
- What suggestions do you have for the client? I want the option to be able to select a keyboard button for my voice activation, the middle mouse button is too ackward when you need your right hand to control your ship and select everything especially during combat. I find I have a very unused left hand doing nothing at the other end of the keyboard. hint hint.
- What features would you like to see added to EVE Voice? Well I would like Aura to make some announcements, like: "Connecting to channel X" etc thats would be cool. But also the ability to mute perople etc? I'm not sure whether its possible atm, but as it is no with text channels, you can kick and mute and the likes is that possible with voip?
all in all thanks!
EDIT: Spelling (I just can't leave my bad spelling alone lol)

what you like about it? i realy like the quality and the fact my corp members could hear me fighting in the background. i dont know if it was my sound card set up or it was intentional but, i like the idea that your game sound is projected to the people your talkin too. What donÆt you like about it? I like the idea of having a choice of button to activate talk. Even if its on a keybord, or another button on the mouse other than the middle one.every thing else was pritty spot on with me. What suggestions do you have for the client? id like so much more for eve id probbaly have to write a book on it. (1)40km tractor beem drones (2)cpu to be reduced on mining upgrades so i can fit 2 on a converter (3)some realy cool tecnolagy where i can change skill with my mobile phone while am at work (4)to be able to fly my ship with a joystick what features would you like to see added to EVE Voice? i had a joke about changing the tone of your voice so i could sould like cartman from southpark

What do you like about it? One voice comms to rule them all, ingame voice visables.
What donÆt you like about it? When client or node crashes you loose coms as well. Not allowed to select the talk key of my personal preference (only got middle mouse to work, which is a clickable wheel on my mouse and therefor really annoying).
What suggestions do you have for the client? Make it a standalone client that interfaces with the game.
What features would you like to see added to EVE Voice? G15 LCD support. ----------------------------------------------- My Top 10 List |

I have to agree to pre-posters: Sound quality is much better than e.g. on TeamSpeak, thats definitely a great + !!!
But we figured out some problems about sound-volume: 2 of 8 corpmates were hearable, from the rest, we didn't hear a single sound. :/ Other thing were problems with the voice settings. EVE voice settings seems to override Windows settings for microphone and sound.
And of course... problems with WinVista and Win2000. I'm mainly running EVE on my PC with Win2k, just for Skill-Switching and some other things, I use my notebook with WinXP. But only on the notebook (WinXP) the Voice System works well. Thats not quiet fine, though I would have to play on the notebook, if I want to use the ig-Voice in Combat, and thats a bit very laggy. :/ (known issue)
Also... The active Voice on Win2k erases all active System Chat Channels. No Client crashes, but my Corp, Alliance and Local Chat Tab were lost after logging in the first time. (known issue too) War do not make one great. |

When the sound quality is good, it is very good, but for one of our corp members with a weaker computer, you can't understand him at all.
I come across extremely loud and clear to everyone, as does one of my corp mates. Everyone else is so low that I have to strain to hear them, even with maximum volume. EvE has frozen my mic input at 33% for some reason, and overrides my windows sound settings.
Even when EvE is (*GASP!*) laggy, the voice doesn't seem to lag, and I didn't get any indication that the voice contributes to lagging my client.
At first, it wouldn't save my settings and continually reset them. Suddenly, it started saving them. I have no idea why, and I can't reproduce.
The middle mouse button is probably the worse button to assign to talk. Most people already have it tied to something else, and the rest don't use it because--like me--you can't press it without moving the scroll wheel. I assigned SHIFT-CNTRL to talk, and it has worked well for me. One of my corp mates, however, gets their mic stuck permanently on after keying it once. Funny for about five minutes, then very annoying for everyone.
I don't like that you can only have audio enabled in one channel at a time. I want to enable it in several of my common channels, but only hear or talk in the currently active tab.
The "talking" icons lag to the point of being useless. Take them out, and instead replace them with the following: Talk icon with red box indicates that the user has voice but it is disabled or this is not their active channel. Talk icon with green box means it is enabled and this is their active channel. Make the channel tab flash green if people are talking in the channel.
I don't know why, but audio disables itself after awhile, and needs to be reenabled. It's annoying. Save the audio enabled settings on log off, so I don't have to reenable the channel each time. If you want people to use this, it should be effortless. The last few days, no one has bothered to reenable their channels. If they remained enable until you disabled them, people would use it more.
I don't know why you can't display the audio level bar when you have a channel enabled. Fix that, and also let me put an audio level indicator somewhere on my screen where I can see it. I hate wondering if I am actually transmitting, and if I am too loud or not.
Could it have killed you guys to have given us a little documentation?
You're not going to be able to charge for this, until there is a critical mass and it becomes widely accepted as the defacto way to voice chat. I honestly suggest making it free for 3-6 months after release. New users should have it free for their first month. Personally, I would rather you didn't charge for it at all. Other solutions are free. Speaking of other solutions, many corps and alliances REQUIRE ventrillo or teamspeak--that is going to be a huge hurdle to jump if you want to charge for this. It is going to take a lot of time for you to gain momentum with this.
My corp has not tried using this for any actual operations yet, since it is only really usable with two of us at the moment. The volume issues are a killer.

The Voice Chat is great We got it to work in my corp. on our corp. channel and private channels, which is very cool, which is much better than local & set channels. Three items which I noted may help; maybe I missed theses features, if I did please let me know
1-Sound; We as players will need to increase and decrease volume on individuals not just general volume for all. Some people are louder and some people are lower in sound.
2-Push to talk key; Push to talk key canÆt be the left click button; we need a vehicle to pick our own key(s) of choice
3- Highlight on person talking; we need the person talking to have a highlight or indicator on them. This will help with communication with groups of unfamiliar persons. (Maybe a text message in standard chat should just print-example Cash Warbash is voice chatting-if click to talk button is used)
Getting ahead of myself here but in closing; overview gang settings; Command groups will need to have chat to wing groups and squads; but maintain Command chat in private from others Jumping voice chat rooms will be encumbering in combat; Maybe you can have push to talk keys by numbers; (for command & leaders to report information) one push to talk or hot key for each squad; please donÆt extend or make us click on the overview to change voice chat groups or squad chat groups, the overview is already to long. Hot keys are the way to go.
Example Command; Command will need to chat to wing & squad groups- a general ôto all hot keyö and single hot keys for each lower level squad.
Wing and squad leaders are the only ones in need to chat with higher command level persons- a general ôto all command hot keyö and a single hot key for each group's assigned wing or command leaders can be helpful
Thank You

Edited by: Liberty Belle on 10/03/2007 21:25:27 Initially, I like it, what works of it...
Hoever my problems I and some of my corps are experiencing are this:
EVE client keeps resetting the mic sensitivity back down (same stupid thing it does with graphic settings) Its causing problems with people being able to hear you. The micrphone gain option is currently unselectable in-game.
The "middle mouse button" option to enable voice is awful. Maybe some like using that, but its the absolute last place I want it. Can you offer a few other options for keypress enabling?
Also, I and my corpmates are experiencing that when the voice is enabled in client, it screws everything up out of game, micrphone volume outgoing is cut back on external programs like teamspeak, etc.

What do you like about it? well, the ingame vivox rocks. Clear, quick, channel specific. Although my list of "dont likes" is long, its not becuase i dont like this. Its because I am trying to nitpick :). Overall I would say this is a winner baby.
What donÆt you like about it? 1.The 1 second lag on the voice tag going green from when you press the Transmit voice (Tx) button. 2. Talking of the Tx button, it was a little tricky to sort out, maybe put the assign option in the "audio" section of the ESC menu? I have a laptop so the middle button thing was a pig for me. Ended up being F11 in the end, cos i didnt want to press CTRL+ or ALT+ or SHFT+ a Tx key. If i was a PVPer it would make life hard.
3.The ability for people to adjust voice levels somewhat better would be nice.
4. Manual. neeeeed manual. I had to work this out using a conjuction of testing and begging in the help channel. It wasnt a pretty thing.
5. Blocked persons (i.e. they cant convo me etc) can still be heard. not so good if you want to block them out completely.
6. "Leave audio" option was as much use as t**s on a bull for me. I tried to leave audio and later rejoin, and had about as much look as a petrol-covered manic depressive trying to light a ciggy.
What suggestions do you have for the client? Just improving the menu for it would help no end. Maybe include a quick bit of instruction on the menu page?
What features would you like to see added to EVE Voice? Well, i think its simplicity is where its secret lies tbh.
Accy.

A lot of people don't realize this, but you CAN re-map the talk to anything. Go into audio settings, remove the checkbox after "Use Middle Mouse Button to Talk", then go to the "Shortcuts" tab. Scroll down a little to "Talk", and change the key mapping there. You can set it for whatever you want.

I envy the people that are getting better sound quality than TS. From our corp feedback, one of our corp "sounds like hes gargling a mixture of half bricks and radiosctive sludge in an electrical storm". And that's using broadband.

Good Job on the voice feature. I think the audio could be improved. We sounded like a bunch of 6 year olds lol. I didnt test it out on more than one channel at a time i would like to know how taht would have worked. It was hard to tell when and who someone was talking. There were some whos icon was green all the time wethr they were joining or not. also when u activate there seemed to be a lag or delay in the transmission. But i think it was an awesome experience It is better to ask forgiveness than permission. |

Edited by: Charon Gonzales on 12/03/2007 22:01:05 *) what i dont like; does not work with non windows xp os's, has issues with many cards, the input volume goes down without player intervention (due voice level?) voice icons show / dissapear at random.
All in all seems way too bug infested, also the voice levels are way too low, its really hard to hear speech if you arent using headphones.
Compared to say teamspeak this vivox solution is in current implementation inferior.
Hope it get's better.
*)what i like; unified sound system wich makes voice coms easy and care free for eve players
*) what should be done; ***fix the bugs*** more control over it, look at teamspeak / ventrillo no "automatic voice adjustment" if i want to scream the socks off of my corp mates i should be abel to do it.
all in all - 3 out of 10 starts; keep working on it.

Edited by: Linium on 12/03/2007 23:54:19 Ive been using on and off all week, here is my opinion.
Good Points
1. Its built into the client. 2 Could be very good for small corp who are only likely to use one channel and not need commander type controls.
Bad points
1. Sound quality is pretty bad, compares very badly to our TS, and ventrillo systems i have tried before. 2. Only allows middle mouse button as push to talk button. 3. No options for a channel commander type system, how do you talk to squad commanders if you are in another squad? 4. Seems laggy, takes a few seconds to see who is keying up their mic. 5. Audio is too quiet and i am unable to turn on mic boost or turn the level of the input up. 6. Random beebs and other noises appear when no one is talking. 7. No visual confirmation that the system is working correctly. 8. Would be nice to see some sort of overlay to say who is speaking, scrolling through gang (if you even have it up) to see who is speaking. Green colour is very hard to see, should go from red to green when someone speaks and not white to green.
I honestly can't see the point in Vivox if: you have to pay for it and if it is as good as teamspeak which we all know how to use and is able to be used for other games.

Posistive: + it is good sound quality. + you can speak more than one at same time and it still sound good = like when sitting at same party in RL. + easy to beigne use + no extra-eve program needed (as i far i know, i am only normal computer user). + in chat you can see who is actively speaking, if in doubt :P
Negative - can't reply when client not the active one. (I like to have two client running) - echo so not able to detect what is beeing said, if you have to chars in same channel. - how do you adjust your mic volume lvl? i can see a meter when not active voice, but not how to adjust it. If one try to adjust in the [esc] meny if pops back ...
Over all i like and will get it when it comes out for real. BUt may not use it all the time, as i like to be able to answer nomater what window i have active.

Positives
Sound quality is nice. Seems to perform better tha TS when multiple people are talking.
Negatives
Ingame sound effects need to drop substantialy in volume when vivox is active. You cant hear people when you are warping etc. Need to be able to bind a single key as talk, or maybe a toggle on/off. Possible to 'autojoin' audio when a chat channel is topmost. so you could swap to and fro between corp and gang chat without having to join audio every time.
