so basicly you give another profession to the 0.0 alliance again? hope not
my only solution would be: seed the t2 bpos at the market and use invention for t3 stuff i know wishful thinking and will never happen.
but the rest of the blog seems to be nice ...even when t2 production will take far more time now

I like the ideas towards invention... however you never really answered the question "But Where does the lottery go?" But I'm guessing from common sense that you all still plan on doing away with it :-(

Anything that leaves the T2 BPO's in place and them still being a huge money earner for people is not a good thing imo. Invention will help but that alone isnt enough, something extra needs to be done to bring down the price of T2.
Having said that, something needs to replace T2 when it gets to that stage.
There are ways to make much, much, much more isk than with T2 bpos. like 0.0 complexes for example.
The fact of the matter is that if current T2 BPO holders get to keep their BPOs and the best anyone else can hope for is a BPC an incumbent problem is created. Inventors will never be able to compete with BPO holder. Pointing out other ways of making isk is not a valid argument as BPO holders will actually have more time to work on other ways of making isk. BPOs need to be turned into BPCs, or Invention needs to lead to BPOs. BPO Invention could require a rare decryptor only found in 0.0 and require a highly researched T1 BPO for success. It could also require a T2 BPC of the item you want. This way you have to do some regular invention first, and you have control over what BPO you invent. I have to admit this might kill the T2 BPC market.

Surely as invention becomes cheaper, people will be able to sell their invented products at lower prices? This will, in turn, force the T2 BPO holders to reduce their prices to still be able to sell their goods.
Cheaper invention will stop T2 BPOs being a huge money earner as you put it (though I still maintain that the vast majority of T2 BPOs do not make huge profits).
I also wonder where this 'no new T2 BPOs from the lottery will make the current ones infinitely valuable' argument comes from. After the first batch of T2 BPOs were released (you know, when the research agents had 'nothing easily predictable' all over them, and we didn't know if any more would ever be released) T2 BPOs were still being sold at somewhat reasonable levels.
And don't get me started on the 'make it a level playing field' by removing T2 BPOs argument. EVE = level playing field? Give me a break!

Invention CAN compete, maybe not at the same level of production as T2 BPO owners, but they CAN compete, and even more so after the changes to invention in this blog, and especially after datacore prices tank after the last BPOs are out of the lottery.
So basically what you're also saying is that current T2 bpo owners deserve to lose theirs and the only T2 BPOs should come from invention? You don't see that as more than a little bit unfair to those who bought/did r&d missions for the current stock?
I for one support invention leading to T2 bpos if the process is complicated enough and requires entire corps of people to do, but turning current T2 bpos to T2 bpcs is just a horrible thing to even begin to think about, it would be a world-ender for thousands of innocent low-grade T2 manufacturers. And prices would jump up dramatically.

Well, this seems to be a rerun blog; I don't see any new information except perhaps that there will be no cap on the number of cores that can be purchased from agents.
I hope we don't get another 20+ pages of the same posts that are already in the previous T2 blog.

My point is made. Not at the same level, which is unfair.
Lets face some facts here. Any changes is going to be unfair in some way. We should all be hoping for the most fair change. My two suggestions are the only ones I think are reasonable. My suggestions are 1. no one gets T2 BPOs, or 2. Invention leads to T2 BPOs. Personally, I think number two is the better of the two. It makes it more works to get a T2 BPO than just starting an R&D job, but it gives more control over which BPO you get, which to me balances out nicely.

the iterion 1 cannot compete with the iterion 5 at the same level, should we remove the iterion 5? The osprey cannot compete with covetor at the same level, should we remove the covetor? Things in eve will never be on a 100% level playing field, nor is it desirable. Eve has never been about fairness, nor will't ever be.
But at any rate I am of the opinion keep current T2 bpos in the game, and let T2 BPOs be made through long-hard-to-do invention processes.

I'd like to ask for a clarification of one of the items stated in the blog:
"The drop rate of the invention (encryption) skill book has been increased to be in line with the adjusted drop rate of the data interfaces."
All of the other points implied that changes were being made in the future (most likely Rev 1.4 deployment), but this one implies that the change has already been done and is live.
Is this the case or is the wording merely unclear? (i.e. has THIS change already been made live or is it going in at the same time as the others?) ------------ Ezra Cornell

Will RP have any use other than buying datacores? If not, then you might as well have the agent just drop datacores into your hangar every day. The RP would just be a needless complication. Instead of clicking once on your hangar to get the datacores you click five times. |

TomB, even though you are my illegitimate love child I will grant you the privilage of using the family name.
The focus you guys are giving this is helping level the playing field for corps that do not wish to participate in 0.0 space to secure T2 BPOs. This is much more in tune with what R&D is all about and leaves less to "Random Change". Considering I have over 120,000 RP on various projects and haven't won jack since it came out I'm the first to give kisses!

Trust is not generated by replacing a random event with another random event. Randomness breeds opportunities for favoritism. Opportunities for favoritism breed rumors about favoritism.
People trust numbers they can see. Business people (those keeping the market going) trust numbers they can see and manipulate. Miners see their ore/sec numbers, pvpers see their dmg/sec numbers, why can't researchers and inventers be allowed to see their numbers?
An idea for stabalizing the datacore market making research agents not have time limits for their missions. More RP = more datacores. Sheesh you could simply remove the constant RP gain altogether and make RP mission based as an option.
Something needs to be done about the BPO's IF no BPO's are to be released ever again, but what?: -BPO's -> BPC's, would make many hard working people disgruntled and rightly so. -BPO's -> "X" amount of RP or datacores, see negative conotation above -Time delays on using T2 BPO's you can make a 1 run bpc every "X" time -Make BPO's still attainable somehow, but how?: --Collect "X" invented BPC's for the same item all invented by different inventors, stir in a lab for months, add in some mandatory item requests/mission requests and presto BPO --[Think Tank]Collect "X" inventors all online, possibly in the same station/carrier, for "Y" amount of time, possibly spread out over days/weeks of online time, all in the possession of an invented bpc version of the item they are think tanking. Drawbacks are who gets the bpo, benefits are player interaction. --Maintain the lotto for BPO and invention for BPC --Have invention rarely produce a BPO rather than BPC, another random roll to be questioned indefinately by those who don't win.
Think Tanking could also be used in other applications (reduced datacore need for an invention, datacore generation, increased quality/quantity of invention results)
Remember you can't make everyone happy just hurt everyone the same and call it good!

well, the research agent is a research agent because it does research for/with you... when this slow arse lazy ***** finally gets something done, you get a t2 bpo... while with invention, you do all the research yourself... and research agents shouldn't be called research agents... cause they don't research anymore, they give you stuff to research with... so in that way they are your supplier, and not research agent...
now, i dont plan to say that you should get rid of the research agents... just keep them giving out t2 bpo's =p
keep the lottery, and boost the invention... cause i think it would be a bit inbalanced to have some stuff where ppl DO have a t2 bpo for... and other that don't have t2 bpo in existance... also, i think it's unfair because it completely destroys the chance of ever getting a t2 bpo... while the ppl already having a good researched t2 bpo, will still get more isk worth of stuff...
or you should just take all the t2 bpo's from the game (bad idea) or keep the lottery...
then u'll get kisses =p signature removed - please email us to find out why - Jacques([email protected]) ='(( they broke my sig... and does this count as a sigjack? |

Sure... I agree with CCP allowing people to get BPOs from this point foward.
Of course your example has nothing to do with anything. Lets say BPOs are never seeded again, and someone needs 100 billion isk to buy a T2 BPO, if anyone would ever sell them that is. Increasing drops in exploration sites is nice and all, but how about tending a bit more to the exploration sites themselves? I'm in the midst of a petition right now where I lost my ship in a suicidal death trap of an exploration site. I don't want to get off on the details of that farce too much in this thread, but the point is I somehow doubt the turn of events that occurred there are what CCP had in mind for their exploration content. There are many reports of empty, bugged, or just poorly designed exploration sites, and while I'm sure many of them are the result of some overlooked detail that the player missed so as to not trigger the expedition hidden within or what have you, I think a substantial number of these reports are still valid and represent legitimate problems in the existing exploration content. If invention is the way of the future and exploration plays a large part in its success, shouldn't the quality and stability of these exploration sites be made a priority?
And only slightly off the topic... did TomB write this dev blog on beer day or something? Because... wow. |

Big step in the right direction. Thank you CCP for at least giving us a shot at better than break even with invention. Those of us who were to late to capitalize on the lottery will need all of the help we can get.
Now, please increase station slots for ME and Copying and us inventors will be happy.

So what if Invention creates BPCs, if it's dirt cheap then BPCs is all you need.

Having said that, something needs to replace T2 when it gets to that stage.
Hopefully they will overboost it to the point where regular players can have access... invention will never replace BPO whoring because it will never be as efficient.. .sure everyone is making t2 warp scrams, cap rechargers, vagas etc now but when they come down to 50 mil or so and the profit falls off that will stop... then we'll have hac spam like crazy.. thank god for tier 3 BCs
So if you bought a t2 BPO for a lot.. you're about to get absolutely owned... but if you've had it a while then its clear sailing... invention will lower prices which i LOVE but only to a point where BPO owners double their money per item... instead of 60000000% increases and such... and yes i know t2 smartbomb bpos are worth 12isk.
The plus is that normal players who havent been playing since beta can have a ***** at t2... the negative is that the current BPOs arent going anywhere and are still awesome, even if not at the same profit levels as before.

Edited by: Cyclops43 on 04/03/2007 11:36:50 While I'm overall positive to the contents of the blog, I think there are a few things that need to be changed....
The main point is that there is too huge a difference between the cost of producing using invented BPC's and BPO's. With invention, you first of all have to spend load of ISK buying all the needed ingredients (some of which are 'used up'), and what you get (if you're luck out), it a (very low run) BPC with crappy ME/PE and no chance of improving it. With BPO's, you spend no ISK (well, unless you buy it), but you have unlimited production runs, and can improve the ME/PE as you want.
This puts the BPO owners at a massive advantage, and ensures that the ISK-printing machines will still exist in EVE, with the exception that newer players will never get any. Personally, I don't think this is very well balanced (or fair for that matter). Giving some people a GRIND-free ticket to EVE while others still have to do the GRIND is not really logical.
Unless you convert all BPO's to BPC's (which is my preferred solution but which would create a lot of whine), I'd suggest something like this: 1. BPO's stay as they are. 2. Invented BPC's gets an extra bonus of 25% less materials used as base. 3. Crappy BPC's (something like the ones currently inventable or even worse) can be 'bought' with LP from research agents.
This'll ensure that both BPO's and invented BPC's have both advantages and disadvantages towards each other, and for the people who couldn't care to do the work, there's the 'easy' but expensive option of getting a BPC with crappy ME/PE.
BPO owners: More expensive production, but no extra costs Inventors: More extra costs, but cheaper production Lazy gits: Very expensive production
My personal opinion is that the current high cost of some of the essential T2 items in EVE is one of the causes of the blob/gank mentality seen lately. Ships are simply so expensive to buy and fit that people will generally not risk them unless they're very sure they'll win the fight, thus they blog/gank. I think my suggestion would bring prices down to a reasonable level, and still leave a profitable business for both BPO holders as well as Inventors.

This is exactly right. I hope people will realise that BPOs aren't the holy grail that so many people make them out to be. With Invention fixed and when they get it available on everything then hopefully invention and BPOs can work in tandem.
BPOs add stability. The whole problem with Tech II prices has been about supply and demand not about people owning BPOs. If you remove BPOs and rely on invention all you are going to do is replace one supply and demand problem with another. Granted the invention one will be more fluid but people are only going to invent what they think they can make the most isk from.
What BPOs do is provide a baseline stock for the market. If you own an Enyo BPO then all you can build from it is Enyos and you will keep building them and putting them on the market and there will always be a supply regardless of the whims of invention. Inventors will build what they think they can make the most isk off so this will fluctuate between products. This will ensure there are no cartels or over inflated prices but it is not going to provide a stable market and it is not going to provide the coverage of items you get now. With no BPOs the T2 market is going to become a lot smaller and more limited as a lot of items will not be built. Imagine what is going to happen when its announced you can now invent a T2 BS, 99.9% BS invention jobs 0.1 % all other T2.
BPOs need to remain and continue to be released. Sure, overhaul the lottery system. Make it more interesting and less passive. Make that research really stop due to a hitch but BPOs need to continue.

Interface drop rate is too high.
Please lower it at some point (maybe not now / at this patch but certainly in the future)

People are just starting to figure out they can farm the Radar sites for interfaces etc.
If no. of cores goes up in these sites, then corresponding number of interface prints should go down.
(p.s. i've done a lot of exploring in 0.0, and this is what my corpies and I are finding)

A couple more things have come to mind after sleeping on this new info.
First making invention cheaper and keeping the restricted number of runs means that it simply becomes something everyone will use an alt for to supply the items they use. The only real manufacturers will be those with the bpo's.
Second assuming T3 items will be invented in the same way then the bpo holders get another leg up, they can just copy their bpo again and again where as the inventors first need to get the t2 bpc before they try for that t3 bpc.
