I have been looking forward to playing it, but cant get the damn thing to install
My DVD Drive wont detect the disc, just keeps buzzing away..
All other DVD's work ok.
Returned the disc and got a replacement (props to Amazon for quick service), but same problem...
Oh, and also the Map and tech tree is in French!!

I don't know why, but despite the fact that I'm a big fan of RTS, I just can't get excited about SupCom. Seems so........the same as every other RTS. Just with Newtonian physics and shiny graphics. And a giant robot.
I'll probably catch the fever in a few months, but right now I just can't see the attraction.
Probably a good thing- not a chance in merry hell it'll run on my PC. --------

The irony is that the copy protection is completely useless; if you make a proper ISO it should work fine.

GPG removed the disc check in their latest patch, but unfortunately the game still needs to be installed first.
As a little anecdote, here's the full patch note:
* SecuROM: The disc-check security feature has been removed (except for Polish, Russian, and Chinese-Traditional releases).
I think they're trying to say something.

The patch won't work for me; it gets to one of the files and says it doesn't exist (editor.scd) even when it certainly does!
I can run it without the CD anyways as long as I have SecureROM emulation on in DaemonTools.

I think it's cuz you got better at the game :) Since scouting bases and armies is 'free' and easy (suicide scout) compared to other RTSs, just a quick look will tell you exactly what kind of unit mix you need.

Not really.
Early on, the only units I could build were tech 1 and weak. They let me build better and better units, but my tactics didn't change; all I did was zerg with gunboats, which pretty much destroyed everything that was thrown at me.

Edited by: Multras on 08/03/2007 20:30:26 T2 UEF artillery is where its at. I can make 15 of those, plop them outside of a base and in a couple min ther will be no defence left. It's always nice when you hit the commander and their base gets wiped out . UEF is where it's at. Neo-terrans for life!

Ive come to the conclusion that the best offense is a good defense. Build some sort of stategic arty or missle launcher and shell the enemy commander. Eventually you'll get lucky and hit them.
Even with a c2d (fastest 2 meg cache one) 2 gigs of ram and a x1900gtx the damn thing still lags out making assualts next to impossible. |

My favourite tactic is putting the commander in a totally random location on the map (behind the enemies base works good) and building a stealth field generator next to him - omg u cant see mee! They never think to check behind ---

You can also have a bunch of overlapping shield generators, and t2 mobile shield gens set to "assist" the commander. Just have the commander stand in the middle of the shield gens, and you'll be more or less artillery proof. --- Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. - Emerson |

I can quickly build up 10 tech 2anti-air and 10 tech 2 anti-ground guns in a line and wipe out massive armies and squadrons in seconds. Even if I lose a couple, their replacement cost and time seems 10-20 times lower than that of the massive enemy armada that died instantly to them.
Light bot rush > You. T1 Arty + Radar > Static defence. Aeon + Water Map + Fast Destroyer rush > Your base.
Oh...or my favorite, Cybran + Rush to Tac. Missile Launchers + Spamming off two Tac Missiles at their Commander.
Its all about the "OMFG...BLOB!!" it is. I love it!

Best Offense is a good defense??? Have you played against a skilled player yet? Everytime I try to play the defensive game, I've lost.. while your sitting shielding your base, their out making 2nd or 3rd forward bases.. and covering more ground towards you..
Myself and 5 other corpies have the game.. and have been playing those 81x81km maps that can go on for 4 hours or more :) Awesome game, although at one stage towards the end, we had the total units of 4 people in the middle of the map battling it out, and the lag was unplayable ;) 45 minutes of real time equaled about 3 minutes ingame..
Some very funny strategies to play with:
You spot the enemy commander, and your playing a game type that doesn't end when your commander dies, So you load up your commander into an air transport, and head straight for their commander in the middle of their base thats sure to be surrounded by AA. Another variation is to upgrade your ACU with the teleport thats quite fun too ;) that 4 hour game I had with the lads earlier, managed to teleport my ACU into their base, within a few feet if his commander, and take his ACU along with a good 80% of his base with it.. This option takes a long time to setup and pull off however.

For all those complaining about it being to hard to run on youre current boxes, may I point you in This Direction
For all those playing Supcom and enjoying youreselves, may I point you in This Direction.
Sorry, dont mean to high jack a thread, its just everything about SupCom made me
A: Want to play Total Annihilation, B: Want to play Homeworld 2.
I found the tech tree to simply be a chore, that simply dilutes gameplay. Its so varied its to hard to achieve the proper unit/counter in any realistic situation. I also have no problem with the absence of any relevant micro, I did love TA after all. But good god, if I wanted to think this much I'd go play some Axis and Allies with a mate.
On the other side of things, when it came to unit control, overall timeline, build orders and ability to adapt with flexible match strategies, I still havent seen a game to rival Homeworld 1 or 2, and quiet simply would rather play my 1007th match of Homeworld than another match of SupCom ever again. But thats just my opinion, you folks have fun.

While playing open the console , press the ¦/¦ button ( next to 1 and ontop of tab ) , or in my case press the "%" button to open the console.
Enter the following commands one by one , and press enter each time to disable them.
ren_decals ren_bloom ren_reflection
Now with these settings turned off my FPS doubled , without much grafics quality loss
Atm you will have to enter these commands each time that you start up Sup Com , they cant be saved yet , but people are working on it trying to find out
How do you open zhe console? the (next to 1 and ontop of tab ) and %(you mean shift+5?) don't worke. Do i have to change some settiings? or maybe a commandline in some file?
Its the demo btw

You play it on a 1.9Ghz laptop and you say my overclocked P4 is way too slow?
This might be your problem DS, a number of guys in BDCI have SC, those who had overclocked CPUs reported running into framerate problems after an hour or so of play, after dialing back to stock speeds they've reported no further issues, Overclocked CPU's are also showing up as a regular trouble maker on the GPG forums.
