best rendition of aliens i have found in SF are the primes, in Hamiltons's commonwealth saga, though tyrandis are also interesting (though quite cliched by now). ~~~~~~ *mods, if you think i'm ugly please say "eeek!"* ~~~~~~ eeeeeekk - Deckard eeeeee...K -Darth Patches gawwwd damn!!1 -zhuge you soo pretty I think you're stunningly handsome and let me just say that you're wearing that dead parrot on your shoulder in a particularly dashing way today. -Hango Your using up all the space hango! - Timmeh |

What if they were ... peaceful?
I find it quite disappointing that all those "alien" creatures can do these days is invading space. I mean they would get filthy rich with opening a cyno-service *cough*

The Enheduanni are not human anymore meaning they are aliens and are more advance then the Jove along with being sentient. Enheduanni are the reason the Jove pulled out of Empire space. I want aliens.
No not the ones from star trek...not the ones from halo...not the ones from Evolution(also known as the "Ass" Movie) But from Starcontrol 2.
Now there were some aliens
Some melnorme trader running about selling odd junk and buying coordinates to weird worlds, Ur-Quan dreadnaughts(they had it first!) cruising the skies locking all races under red bubbles, Kohr-Ah blowing everyone, including the Ur-Quan. Utwig Jugger being the pew pew toy of the month, Druuge ship design where you throw people in the furnace to pew pew and so forth!
Mainly...flagship...oooooh the flagship...
Dammit! I was cured! You two mentioned SC2, now I have an urge to play Star Control 2 again... god damn addiction
(btw, if you didn't know already, you can get SC2 from here. The 3DO source code was made public, and this is an adaptation to the PC. Incase ya didn't know. Gotta spread the word of this wonderful game y'know)

Bah, necro.
I agree that the lack of aliens in EVE is refreshing, and one of the better things about it's setting. All the cultures in EVE (including the Enheduanni) have their origins in the distant past on the blue-green planet of Earth. However they've changed, evolved, competed and adapted, they're all Human at their core origins.
Whether the Enheduanni have evolved enough to be considered non-human is up for debate- even in that short story, there are conflicting opinions from different people. Personally, I think it's a matter of semantics; there is no point where a person stops being human and starts being "post-human", because its all just a sliding scale. ------

On the other hand, there are science fiction settings that have done very interesting and exciting things with an all-human universe (or close to it), like Dune.
Didn't read anything but the OP, but anyway.
Dune has sentient machines and brains that live in jars (like the one you see in star wars, which imo has some really nice character designs- and some bad ones... also, in defense of star tek, theres a storyline to explain why most aliens look similar.), if you can consider those aliens. also, its still unknown in that universe whether the giant worms are sentient or not.

Hmm, well I think alients would have been good, but proper literary s-f aliens, not television or film style aliens.
The trouble is that aliens have been tarnished by the image of human actors with bulbous foreheads or funny gills stuck on by makeup. It's true that the Star Trek universe has a "kludge" explanation for that, but really, it's just a transparent excuse for lack of decent special effects.
Even in big budget films there's a tendency to anthropomorphize aliens just to keep the kiddies happy.
But REAL aliens, really weird, different, peculiar, awesome, sometimes totally non-human aliens like you get in good science fiction writing, that would be a good thing to have in the EVE universe.

Coincidentally, it's one of the few games that had a hired writer for the plot.

No, common DNA seeded throughout the galaxy.
