I'm talking about tracking disruptors... Why is there no missle equivilance of these? There should be something to lower missle explosion velocity and flight time...

Turrets and missles are not the same, they don't act the same, they don't have the same draw backs..
So why produce a mod that does the same to both??
They both have their own strengths and weaknesses, but missles are far from been great..
Turrets are far better than missiles in every way, they just require more skill and skills to use them well..

There are target desruptors, which work against missile users. Except they can use FoF then, but they deal less damage and can't be controlled. --- Currently flying a PvE geared Crusader and Prophecy |

I believe that defender missiles are supposed to provide defence against missiles. However, I have also read that they basically don't work.

Not to mention the only ships that can use them are ships with missle hardpoints, which defeats the purpose of them. ------------------------

So why not have a Missile Jammer.
They are available with technology today to Jam RF, IR and Laser Beam Riding missiles. Either that or be able to dispense decoys, such as the chaff and flare used today.

Look at how many ships have between 1 and 4 missile hardpoints. Then post.

Something like the flares pods found on militairy aircraft would be a cool gimmick - but only if we get a mod that decreases explosion radius and increases explosion velocity in turn :)

I would like to see a missile disruptor myself. Used in a medslot of course, defender missiles is something you can just throw away, who wants to waste a highslot on them anyway. Something that would use a medlsot, and disrupt the missile launcher stats in some way. As a missile user you can just orbit at max speed and don't get any penalties, defender missiles are crap, and the stuff that works on missile boats are universal, not targeted at them. Missile velocity etc sounds like a nice thing. Missile targeting jamming system or something

"Hah, puny Caldari, your missiles are no match for my 5 anti-missile chaff mosds! *sound of rapidly tapping F-keys* wow look at all the pretty sparks filling up my scr....aaaahhhhhh LAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!"
That being said, I'd do bad things for a viable anti-missile defense. The defender missile concept ain't bad, just make it into a module that we can turn on and will automatically fire at incoming missiles. Trying to trigger it manually when someone fires at close range is just plain silly.
Good compromise would be a mid-slot EW mod, trigger it against a ship and any targeted missiles get a penalty to explosion velocity and/or radius (I say FOFs suck enough as it is)

The real problem is that one defender launcher even when firing from rocket launchers will not stop more than one missile in a volley, if it even does that. It also comes at the expense of damage for many ships[or a NOS]
One tracking disruptor hits tracking and range in half. This can mean anywhere from a 0% damage penalty to a 100% damage penalty.
As well, defender missiles only target missiles targeting yourself, which means that you have a passive defense against an equal number of launcher slots as you use on your ship, but cant use those slots to defend another ship, like you can with tracking disruptors.
----------
However, the real reason that there are no missile disruptors is because there is no real way for a missile user to manuver around them. With tracking disruptors you can work to get transversal down and close range. With a missile disruptor you can.... well you cant do anything, you just take the penalty[for the most part].
This is something they likly wanted to avoid. ---------------------------------------- Thou Shalt "Pew Pew" |

There really should be a better missile defense system than defenders. One idea I thought of is to make a laser based anti missile defense system. Short ranged and wouldn't always work but it would shoot down incoming missiles. As amarr are teh suck right now it'd give them a little something special as amarr ships have laser cap, laser tracking and laser rof bonuses depending on the specific amarr ship. Other races would be able to use them just not as effectively. But I don't see any reason that some sort of anti missile gun hasn't been introduced.

Simple solution: remove Defender missiles, and make Tracking Disruptors into Weapon Disruptors. The skill to us TDs is even called Weapon Disruption, not Turret Disruption.

That wouldnt help, we would have to lower DPS even more in order to fit it ;/ Unless it didnt take a turret slot. Defenders should really be a high slot item that has its own ammo and doesnt require a mount. They hit all missiles targeting gang-mates and friendlies. One defender launcher should be good for about two missiles per volley of similar size to the target, one missile per volley of a smaller size and one missile per volley of a larger size.[I.E. you can launch two defenders between a set standard intecept launch range(say 10km) and impact. it would take 2 defenders to kill a missile of a size smaller or larger than your ship class and one defender to kill one of a similar size. 4 to kill one two sizes larger or two sizes larger.]

Yes, but then there is nothing a disrupted missile ship can do to manuver around the EW like a turret ship can. ---------------------------------------- Thou Shalt "Pew Pew" |

Missiles are unusable in long range fleet engagements, as a result of that they don't get a specific Ewar mod. How many people actually PvP in missile boats anyway? Not meant as a flame, just a simple question, whenever people talk about PvP, missiles(and to a lesser degree lasers) are not that popular.

Edited by: Ryysa on 13/03/2007 09:41:40 Ok well... I don't know if any of you ever used smartbombs this way.
But it's actually very very possible to time 1 smartbomb to almost totally eliminate damage from a noob raven who is firing at you from some range. (say 20-30km for torps, more for cruise).
It is possible to smartbomb missiles, and i used this tactic to great effect. In fact I always used to carry a smartbomb on my ship for anti-drone and anti-missile defence.
However, when the drone hp boost came, this strategy became fairly pointless.
- Think about it :)
P.S. Noob raven means that he launches all 6 launchers at the same time, so your smartbomb rapes his entire volley :)

You realize that it's only a game and that things can be added and taken out? It's not written anywhere that there CAN'T be anything to affect missle accuracy. I'm with you when you say missles and turrets are different. But the two attributes that tracking disruptors affect(range and effect of transveral velocity) are most closely related to flight time(range) and explosion velocity(target ship's velocity) of missles.

There should be no EW mod for missiles because missiles don't need the nerf.
