I think part of the problem is there are so many different areas of the UI that information appears in. Combat spam messages, warping messages, scrambling messages, ecm messages the whole works. I know (hope?) they are updating the UI at some point, so I hope they keep the idea of 'personal transmission messages' somewhere. Hell, I want the target icon to have all the information that not only am I shooting at that ship with, but also what that ship is doing to me. Makes more sense to me.
So just put the message right on top of the UI somewhere, and have it fade out after a few minutes. That way everyone knows it's there (cause they can't get rid of it) but it doesn't spam the actual channels.
