Tony Gonzales' second EVE novel, EVE: Templar One is due out in stores everywhere January 3rd, 2012.
It follows the action of his first novel, EVE: Empyrean Age, and features the story of the first immortal DUST soldiers. I read an early version of it and I heartily endorse it. You can read the devblog with more information here. ======== o7 CCP Manifest | Public Relations and Social Media | @ccp_manifest |

I'm looking forward to this book, hopefully it will be available for sale in Australia some time. Empyrean Age still isn't available as an ePub, apparently the USA takes Australia's history as a penal colony for bread thieves a little too seriously.

I've always been a big fan of Eve's fiction as well; I'm sad to see Tony G go.
I hope in future CCP finds a better way to monetise fiction rather than give it away free on their website or sell physical novels, then have to lay off the staff when that isn't profitable :( |

Empyrean Age brought me into EVE as well, and despite some rough patches, I thoroughly enjoyed The Empyrean Age before passing it on to a friend of mine, who loved it as well. I can understand the restructuring of the company post-Incarna, but I just can't see the logic in letting go someone who's helped to develop the backstory of the game as he has. I wish CCP TonyG the best as well, and hope he may even come back someday. |

Very sad and shocked to learn Tony G is being let go. This is a big step back for development of Eve's backstory. Much of what we know and experience of Eve's Soul is due to what he has written.
I had looked forward to seeing this book published, but now that joy has been tainted with sadness.

I have all forgiven you the spat in the face I felt when reading Theodicy, but I will still claim that the Enheduanni was the worst thing ever introduced into the world of EVE.
I will for sure buy and read Templar One. You will know the book has passed all tests if I end up buying a PS3 after reading it.

Thanx Tony for all your passion and dedication to carry forward the EVE lore.
Now as you'r soon to be a free man again, released from corporate bondages, you stand on a new opportunity to carry on and develop the EVE lore further through a private enterprise. That is until CCP again has enough ISK to buy out your EVE lore company.
Also, just ordered both of the books (Empyrean Age and Templar One) to bring myself up to date with the past year EVE lore delicacies.

Your work was, is and will always be appreciated by the lore lovers among us.
When your book hit my mom's nightstand (she's 65, and never played EVE), and she avidly read it cover-to-cover in a single week time, I realized your work was actual literature, not just EVE ads or fluff.
Your statement about "the most underutilized force in EVE" is sooooooooooo true.

I would have thought that the number of pre-orders would be enough to convince CCP that TonyG is a valuable enough member of the team to keep around. It's this aspect of the game that almost all players can appreciate - some considerably more than others.
I too was pulled in by the eve lore. I've read all of the cronicles and news articles. These are the things that pull people into EVE. One may think that graphics or gameplay are core to a game. One might also be thinking about what the appeal for a first-person shooter is. EVE's graphics are quite awesome indeed, but there is nothing ground-breaking in them alone. Without the backstory provided by CCP (and by extension TonyG), CCP wouldn't have a leg to stand on.
While there may have been other circumstances surrounding his termination, I have concerns that this position will be filled with someone 'not as qualified' as Mr. Gonzales.
Unless you have someone waiting in the wings to replace TonyG to the degree that we don't know that he's missing, I strongly suggest you rehire him at the earliest possible opportunity. He was a great contributor for the foundation of what we all know and love.

Echoing Caiden Baxter above, Empyrean Age was one of the best game tie-in books I've ever read. I read it within a day or two because I couldn't put it down. The characters and story were very rich and it got me back into the game after a lull in my interest. I'm glad to see that I'll get to enjoy another one of Tony's books, but I'm shocked that you are letting him go.
I know terminations are an internal matter between employer and employee, and nothing we fans say will change that, but I will join the others here in saying that I think its a big big mistake.

Actually the paperback is $14.99 (retail, on the book), so looks like you're getting a discount on it. Not surprising if you have the Amazon Premium subscription (or whatever its called). Or perhaps Amazon itself is doing the discount. I may have come here from Myst Online, but that does not make me any less bloodthirsty than the average Eve player.
Just more subtle.

One thing I've learned in EVE... the backstory doesn't matter, except to justify quirks in the engine (warping through planets anyone?) Seriously, I enjoy story, but the only hooks for story (mission descriptions) are extremely tedious. The chronicles are okay except most of them are more exposes (a description of stuff without much of a plot) rather than actual stories. I would like that to not be the case, but considering how invested players already are in the game, I don't picture it changing regardless of the work put into it.
And so much of the story is so exclusionary. Seriously, I've been trying to figure out what the hell the Alex'sJammies thing is since I first heard about it, and the response has always been redolent of some hipster "if you don't already know you're not cool enough to know" kind of crap. Even from the devs managing it.
The EVE story is not for EVE players. |

Why can i not get Eve: Templar One on Amazon.co.uk? its still showing fricken pre-order. Very annoyed as i have been waiting for that for months drat it all.
In other news, sorry to see Tony G go, didnt always agree with how some of the arc's went but they filled in a lot of the the background cultures nicely.
So, i can pre-order one new from .co.uk, order new now from .com or buy second hand on .co.uk, WTF? guys have a word with your publishers please? I would rather the source company get the cash rather than someone profiteering on the ordering mess up (for want of a much less polite phrase). Sometimes "Meh" is an acceptable response. |

I originally saw Empyrean Age on the shelf a few years ago and paged through it, but for some reason I didn't like it. Hearing about Templar One's tie-ins to the first book made me reconsider, and I'm very glad I did. I enjoyed both books immensely. I have a whole new take on the four factions, and the inclusion of Mordu's Legion was great. The book's treatment of them makes me want to fight on Mordu's side rather than against him. Pretty cool. |

been looking for this as an epub in the UK with no luck.
turns out the hardback and paperback are listed as EVE Templar One, but for some reason Waterstones.co.uk list the epub version as DUST514 (ebook)

Truly, truly enjoyed this book, and I hope that CCP considers more novels from Mr. Gonzales (just because he's no longer on staff doesn't mean that they cannot commission more novels from him). |
