Yup, folks. You read right. Eve has progressed to a point where hardcore military hardware, 50m skillpoint characters, and general godlike hatred has proliferated too far.
I was just pirated... in Empire space... By a Nyx.
I've been playing long enough to remember the days when there -were- no Motherships. I remember when the concept of using one to pirate was laughable. They're for assaults, fleet battles, morale... all that. Now, I lose a rather expensive Maelstrom to a Nyx and a FastLock Abaddon in a 0.4 system.
EVE can't last much longer like that. There are too many people, with too many skillpoints, too many superpowerful faction-fitted ships, and they ALL seem to be pirates. Not even decent pirates! They're all the "No mercy, no ransom, just die, -10.0 Hardcore!" pirates. I swear to God, that was the Nyx pilot's profile.
I think it may very well be time for me to lay down my aviator glasses and kiss EVE goodbye.

But I do see what ya mean but what can be done, those pirates have earned the right to fly those ships from YEARS of training, it isnt fair to nerf'em or take'em away either.
So moral of the story. Deal with it adapt and survive or give me yo stuff :D

WTF are u whining about exactly? high sp players don't really affect the game that much seen as u can only have so many sp towards certain ships. Most ppls skills are stretched across several ships when ur a high sp character.
There are very few MS's in operation as i understand and those that do that i know of are decent pirates despite what u say. I also wonder about your logic when you say that just because someone doesn't ransom they are not a decent pirate
From the sound of it i may be time for you to leave eve, but i suspect it's not for the reasons you gave.

Edited by: Lacihtenu on 30/03/2007 14:04:32 I'm envious. Here's why...
My character is almost a year old (In 2 months), but has only a bit over a million skill points because I only played 3 months before I cancelled the account. I recently came back a month ago.
Now, new players get as many SP's to start off that I have after months of training. So they can get into Cruisers and Battlecruisers at a faster rate (Granted they have the cash for it).
They then proceed to camp gates and smacktalk you when they pop your ship because they 4 or 5 on 1 against you when you warp in and can't do much. They are skilless asses that don't deserve the kills.
If I am going to be owned, I would LOVE for it to be to a MS as you had done. At least I would know the guy / gal has done their time in game to deserve the kill, and I would finally get to see a MS up close and personal (Seconds before being turned into space dust ).
On a side note: Training complete in 2 days for cloaking.

Oi, Funkyshades. Thanks for standing up for me. I'm not whining, I'm simply stating something I think is rapidly becoming fact. I would not have been surprised at ten battleships gatecamping me. I -am- surprised when a mothership does it. It's not the fact that I lost an expensive t2 setup. It's the fact that I lost it to a ship that supposed to be legendary, but is now more and more and more commonplace.

With you all the way on that one. My char is a year old i think, and i'd say a good 5-6 months of that is constant training, with 1 month for frig 5 whilst i was off (31 days at the time heh). I have 5.5 mil SP atm, which is what, couple months tops under new system i think. Ironically, i don't need anymore skills. I fly T2 frigs and i can fully fit them T2 well with all support skills suffience to fly well. So i guess it's kinda true when they say newer players can compete, as you can't fly a frig that much better than i could really regardless of SP.

I Agree to a extent. There needs to be a way to catch newer player up. I would suggest if a player has less then 30Mil SP + 10% learning speed. If he has below 20 mil Sp +20% and if he has below 10 mil +30%
This would help newer players get into the game quicker, with out the older players whining OMG the noobs are catching up too me too much.

My character is around a year old (-3 months, because i had taken a break), and i just hit 10 million SP last week. I'd reccommend getting all of your advance learning skills to level 4 and then getting some nice, cheap implants when you get the money; they really do make a difference.

all advance learning skills at 4 except charisma
No implants though, i think i'll buy some now actually, as i've been podded maybe twice in 2 months. +3's should be a good middle ground.
However like i said, im stuck as to what to train for. I'm training destroyers 5 for interdictor now, but after that i have all the skills i want or will ever need to fly all the T2 frigs, fit T2 out fully (except missiles, but they use too much resources, arbalests better)
Edit: and yeh, to fly them well, all the support and main skills to lvl 4. Only weak point is electronics, but i have so much CPU on every ship, those skills are worthless to me, including the lock speed and range.

I must say I'm a little confused on the SP numbers presented so far. I started this character in December '05 and have logged in today for the first time in over 6 months (I went and played WoW :P ) and my SP count is over 13mil. Admittingly 2.5 mil of that is in Learning skills and they're, along with standard frigate skills, are the first I learnt. Just how much of a difference does +1 on an attribute make?
Also, as for the excessively large and numerous ships, I fail to see a problem. There isn't a single thing one player can do that another can't if they put in the effort. For the most part they're the product of team efforts anyway so it'll be somewhat illogical to believe solo players should consistantly remain competative. That and people get bored. Eventually, you might get bored with fleet engagements in your spiffy new Titan and just get the urge to gate camp in a 0.4. Most people consider it more of an honour to die in such a fashion. It sure beats that time I lost an Omen to a Punisher and Rifter duo.

Edited by: Neo Maximus on 30/03/2007 16:29:45 Edited by: Neo Maximus on 30/03/2007 16:28:38 Edited by: Neo Maximus on 30/03/2007 16:27:41 I started my first character in March, 2006. I played for 2 months before getting bored and going back to wow. About 4 or so months later (i don't remember) i came back and started playing eve again (while playing wow). I didn't train up my learning skills and then advance learning skills to 4 (except charisma) until after i had came back. Before taking a break on eve, i had only trained some basic learning skills to rank 4, however, if i had done more training for skills earlier on, i would probably have more sp now.
The difference that a +1 to an attribute makes, as we all know, depends on what the primary attribute and secondary attribute for the skill. The greater the multiplier of that skill and, hence, the more time it takes for a rank of that skill to complete, the more of a difference you will see. For example: If i was to train a skill that was to take around 5 days; +1 to the primary attribute may lesson the training time by around 8-12 hours (im not sure, im just guessing). If you were to train a long skill like Battleship 5, +1 to the primary attribute makes a huge difference. (When i had gotten a +3 perception implant, my training time for Gallante Battleship 5 went from 49 days to 43 days.)
- And as for whoever thinks or said that there should be an accelerated process for new characters training skills so they can catch up; you can't do this. Eve is based around the skills and has to be constant. The idea is bad for 1: It's not fair for the people who have been playing and paying for years to get where they are now; 2: You shouldn't comprimise how the game mechanics, such as this, works so it benefits other players - it just leads to more spoiled people whining for changes in patches, rather than they work for things and actually TRY to play well; and 3: A game get's quite boring when everyone is able to become close to the same as everyone else. There's a need for a difference in characters as it keeps variation in players; not to mention, from ccp's point of view, it also keeps people playing longer. My strongest point is in #1 though.
-Also; as far as the OP goes, sounds like this was a QQ'ing attempt to get attention. If it wasn't he wouldn't have added the last part of his post:
Quote: I think it may very well be time for me to lay down my aviator glasses and kiss EVE goodbye.Evil or Very Mad

I expect as you see more and more people with the ability and the funds to fly motherships in empire, it will become a big problem, especially given the motherships immunity to ew.
Having said that I expect one of two things to happen in response (its only a matter of time.) Either the Motherships will have their EW immunity removed, or they will be relegated to 0.0.

I do have to agree with the poster to a small degree. I live in low sec areas..and twice weve had a bored pilot of a Mothership come visit just for giggles. (Guess it was a lull in alliance ops and they had the urge to stirr things up.).
Best you really can do in low sec vs a mothership is snipe some fighters and hope the owner gets bored and moves on onless you have a fairly large fleet of your own nearby.
Motherships are defenately overpowered for 0.4 space.
As the game progresses and you see more n more motherships and titans floating around...this may become a larger issue.
Then again..if they add L5 missions and L6 missions...then you will have something for bored cap pilots to do.
Dont they call this adding more end game material or something in most mmos?

no, high sec is defined like that. empire means that one of the four major factions claim sovereignity (their space reaches into low sec). if you're in caldari low sec you will see sovereignity claimed by caldari in the upper right corner of the screen.

I think one of the main problems is that 2 things have occured: firstly, the game has seen a whole series of dramatic changes between cold war and revalations in terms of ships, mods, etc.. for the first 2-3 years of eve you had frigs, cruisers, battleships and you pretty much knew where you stood. With the introduction of capital ships things have shifted quite drastically. At the same time as all these changes came into play there was a relatively fast influx of new players and the nature of the game is such that the age of your char will always hold a physical barrier between your capabilities and those of older characters, regardless of your skill as a pilot. but this is not to say that new characters cant compete in the eve universe simply because whilst theyre running lvl 1's in an ibis for 10 units of veld youve got older characters fighting off fleets of bs's in a carrier. At the end of the day theres high sec and theres low sec. these two space types are NOT synonymous with 'safe' and 'unsafe' space, theres always a risk even in 1.0. But the point is that new characters can train and advance in relative safety before they feel they can venture into more optimistic regions. If its 'too hard' or 'too unfair' then eve just isnt the game for you. try wow.

I can't say I agree with the OP. Good things take time. Yeah it sucks that there are more wtfpwn capital ships, but they aren't battleship common yet. In reference to the SP thing, it's possible to train approx 1.3M per month possibly more, if you have the right attributes for the character you want. I chose combat only path and stick to just combat skills, so far at 10 months I have 13.5 million SP.

Titans are the new Mothership. And when titans become common... tech 2 titans?
As for SP, my attributes are in all the wrong places and with no implants I get about 1 mil sp/month

In response to the original poster: I get the feeling Eve is kinda supposed to be like that. The mothership will probably get blown up sooner or later, and someone will have a lot of fun doing it. Maybe you could make a goal of yours?

pilots make mistakes. all it takes is for his cap to get a bit low when faced with a force designed to take out a mothership and he's toast. The problem is most MS pilots are super cautious atm so would rather run away than stick around to fight if they need to use cap. But, when they get more common mistakes will happen

Super capitals (and to some extent capitals) make the game worse (imo). Unfortunately they're neccessary given the nature of the space claiming game.

omg, is this teh whiniest post ive seen in ages, i would rather be killed by 1 mothership than 15 idiots sat on a gate, at least there is less lag.
you died get over it
most pirates dont offer ransoms these days, its all about the kill mails not the isk. raking up points on the killboards.
the people that can fly these ships have had long and tedious training, and have payed real cash to play for as long as they have.the ability to fly better ships is the reward for that cash, as for new players getting a boost, they already do and start off a lot more advanced then when i started playing nearly 4 years ago.
maybe tetris is more to your liking

I cant beleive your moaning bout being popped in 0.4 by a mothership as others have said you were bait for 1 ship or 10 ships. its 0.4 ganks happen.
AS one of those 50 m sp characters, i am seriously offended by your whining bout how powerful us vet chars are, ive spent 3 years in time and money building up my char making noob mistakes and getting popped. AS for catching up in skill points when i started playing eve buddy there were no advanced learning skills no implants at all. SO u got it good. IF u want to play a game with no skill involved go play wow or maybe u should go back to playing space invaders. but then again maybe u would whine bout how its infair when the invaders reach the bottom the screen its game over and its not fair how they speed up as you shoot them , and why can u only have 1 bullet on screen at a time.
New char in eve got it good u start with more skill points its easier to make isk, u got warp to zero u can see ships destroyed on the map if u care to use it :P You can train advanced learns faster i did it with a new alt. buddy when i start eve 50k npc was the max and that was in 0.0 no missions, no cosmos no nuffin.
so either learn froum your mistakes, or go play somethin else, and for the record i can fly a mothership but i have no where near the 34 billion isk to get one.
IF your gonna stick with eve maybe u should join an aliance or a corp its a multi[layer game :P
Kind Regards, V annoyed veteran eve player peeved off bout people whining that they dont have the sp :P

I like EVE. EVE is a funny game.
I like to hunt rat's. BS rats is the best cuz theres most cash in them but i cant hunt in 0.0 without the chance of a pirat comming in on me when im like + dead. so i loose to a coward pirat sucks.... but why is there not any high sec. Belts with BS rats so pvp wasent allowed so people that did not want to do pvp had the same game as those that do. None pvp player dont have much else to do than do missions or mine with ore thiefs... Thats just to bad.
There should be a EVE with none pvp for those who like the game with out pirats....
Note.... i like EVE as it is but im sure many would fall of the "1" server if another was made for none pvp. and then it would only be the pirats left to fight among them self. LiaLie |

are you for real? if there were bs rats in high sec then no1 would come to low sec or 0.0 so pirates would get extremely bored.
And i think you need to remind yourself that Eve is primarily a pvp game. and the phrase losing to a coward pirate just says to me that ur kinda whiney.

Buy a Mothership, or fleet action? (or get two motherships in your fleet and wtfpwn the original MS Pirate). Militarily speaking the ability to pwn you enemy before he pwns you is vital to strategy.
My experience is that under 0.5 is a very dangerous place to be alone. It used to be less dangerous as pirates were less gang'ed up, and by going around in gangs you had relative safety of numbers.
Then pirates evolved into more organised groups, so the only way you could be a solo pirate was to bring more serious fire power to the table.
Of course the two factions of pirate non-pirate are escalating rapidly, so its only a matter of time till pirates are flying dreadnaughts and Motherships, because that has become the only real solo choice (and eventually essential for piracy to continue as all sides tool up).
Solo piracy/pvp is a dying art (it appears) and fleets are all the rage (although fleet means blob rather than fleet as in tactical fleet). The only way to avoid being ganked from Morden Heath to SU-17-V and back again is to fly something very powerful....
Welcome to the concept of arms races, and you probably understand why military tech sales are so astronomically profitable....

To the OP, i sympathize with you. Ive nver been killed by a captial ship in empire but I have seen quite a few pratts pirating in them for easy kills.
And lesson learned. Never come to these forums looking for support, 90% of the EvE community are total KNOBS( me included probably :P )

I know eve is that and i allso wrote i like EVE. And for the pirat thingy i just call pirats that pray on +dead targets are cowards... that may be "whining" but imo it would be same to kicking a baby so your SURE u can win insted of taking on one your own size and might loose. But a pirat is a pirat and pirats do live to kill nomatter what it is thay are killing and that i like about EVE (Thats what the pirats did in our own history). I might one day be the pirat having fun killing Beginners. 0.0 is the very best of EVE cuz its pvp 100%. LiaLie

agreed. I just hate the inference that pirates only kill defenceless and half dead things. many pirates including myself will kill everything and anything they come across. from shuttles to titans if they can. this is not cowardly it's just fun and profitble. anyone who actually warps in to the belt someone's at, helps him kill the spawn, waits for his shields and cap to recharge, and then says "ok lets fight" is a very strange individual. as is the pirate that says "dam his shields aren't at full cos of that pesky npc, guess that's another 1 i can't shoot at". just doesn't happen. so try not to think of it as cowardly, just remember they are having a laugh and made money off ur death which is what being a pirate is all about.
but yeah i get ur not having a go at pirates, just wanted to make those points.

Could a bs with as many plates smartbombs and cap injectors pop all his fighters before you die for some payback??? Anyway pirating in low sec in a mothership is playing eve on easy mode waste of a good ship. But if you have the skills the isk and thats what you want to do then what ever floats your boat. I wish i could get one for my main would be used in 0.0 in fleet battles as they were intended till then the thanny will have to do.

No way this is going to happen. He'll pull back the drones, keep him officer-webbed and scrambled at 20+Km and pop him with 20 sentry drones. ;-)
