What about creating a midslot item that is like a reverse gyro, lowering damage and ROF. It is not unbalanced because A) it is easily countered with a gyro, and B) Targets can still fight back, so I don't think it would be any stronger than something like a sensor damp. I don't know what numbers would be best to use, maybe 15% for T1 and 20% for T2?
Currently all minmitar EW ships (bellicose, huginn, rapier) have a completely wasted bonus due to target painting. The vigil does too, but who cares about EW frigates.
This follows the rest of the races EW that has a unique way at limiting damage. Caldari = jamming, gallente = sensor damp, amarr = tracking disrupt, and minmitar = damage reduce.
Target painters are completely useless. People can say that in a fleet you can target a ship and then target paint it so others can target it quicker, but due to lag, and the fact that target painters don't do all that much (35% for best named? it would need to be 400% to have any noticable effect), combined with how fast people die in large battles without target painters, they would change nothing. Even without bonuses you would ALWAYS be better off going with a sensor damp or tracking disruptor. Why not replace target painters with this item?

While you're basically right about TPs sucking, there are a few situations where they rule. Have someone in your gang use torps instead of cruise, or fly a Huginn with heavy missiles and a TP. There are definately situations where a TP can make a big difference in your DPS, I dont know about the whole targetting faster thing, seems kind of a dumb reason to equip one.

What painters need is a secondary effect that reduces the target's resistances by a slight amount. TD and damps have secondary effects, jamming does not but a successful jam means the target cannot fire. In order to have the same power as other EW this is what is needed.

Honestly with Minmitar Philosophy why not a boost to tracking computers / enhancers, we need those anyway.

Good if you have 3 and webbers,if you make him unable to move fast and the size of a small destroyer in his inty it is officially worthless. __________________________________________ Yes it is great being amarr. I am minmatar, fly amarr, use gellente drones and am in caldari space. |

I love Target painters, personally. They're a really nifty mod to have, especially when engaging smaller ships. ------------------- My opinions (ie, all of my posting here) are not my corporations. Nor should it be taken as such. |

Even with 3 TP you increase a claw's signature to 51m which is hardly destroyer size With 3 webbers you decrease inty velocity to 5-10m/s anyway, why need a TP unless you're firing missiles?

What they need to remove is the "Target Painters have no effect while the target is using it's MWD"-penalty.
Otherwise I wan't a similair restriction on other EW modules.
No Tracking Disruptors because I am firing my guns, no Sensor Damp since I have a sensor booster running, and no Sensor Jamm since I have an active lock. Things like that.... it's all in the details.

QFT!
Other than things being immune to target painters becasue they are already too big the module is preety good. Remember, when using oversized weapons a +35% to sig radius directly translates into +35% damage/sec!

I think a lot of people don't know that TP help every weapon. Not just missiles. Everything that does damage be it missiles, guns, or drones, uses sig radius of a target to determine chance to hit and damage dealt. So, by fitting a TP you increase all of your damage.
While TP aren't that usefull solo, they are awesome in gangs.

Ok. Lets say I have a battleship with large guns and a TP. I'm fighting another battleship that has the same type of weapons as mine but he doesn't have a TP. Please explain to me what my advantage is. Actually, don't bother. I already know the answer. I'm actually at a disadvantage because I just wasted a midslot on a module that doesn't help me in any way.

You don't need TP's to hit an inty because with his MWD engaged, his sig radius is already the size of a cruiser.

a bellicose/huginn/rapier with minmatar cruiser V "requirement for the latter 2", and signature focusing IV will increase the enemy's sig 49.5% each. 3 of them webbed down with the huginn/rapier's webifier bonus and that ceptor is #@$#ed. ______________________

Hi, alt post! His last line said that TP's are useful in gangs. I didn't think that statement made any difference in my argument or his. But since you point it out, please explain how the presence or absence of that last line changes things in my hypothetical situation described above.

Say you're both in a Tempest, the signature radius on that ship is 340m, the signature resolution of your guns is 400m.
If all conditions are perfect for accuracy for both of you (range and speed and angle) he will still miss you sometimes to do reduced damage. While your one TP increases his resolution to 452m, meaning you not only get more hits you also get more critical hits on him. So it makes a difference though it's not as noticable as the other race EW.
As stated TP are for gang use not for solo unless you're flying a missile boat.
With that said I like the idea about TP and it's suits the Minmatar, focusing on doing more damage to the enemy as opposed to reducing the ammount of damage the enemy deals.

Even in a 1 vs 1 fight between two BSs, the TP becomes very noticable. Basically, what it does is take all your "lightly hits" and moves them up to the next level. Misses become hits, and hits become better hits.
Just think of a blasterthron that gets nothing but Excellent hits or better on you. -------------------------------------- ---"What's in your wallet?"--- "There are two kinds of respect, fear and admiration.... I'll take what I can get" |

How about if TP's also give a slight resistance to Tracking Disruptors, Sensor Dampeners and ECM V's the Target that you have target painted? Now that could make TP's on equal terms.

Your "news flash" is not on point. I know about the turret guide. Nothing in there says anything about a bigger signature radius giving you higher quality hits. As far as I know if your guns already have a signature resolution of 400, it doesn't matter if your target has a signature radius of 400 or 1000000000.
So my question remains.
