This is not a post to gloat, smack or anything of the sort...
When I say We I mean - Axe / Xelas / Fatal / Coreli / Aftermath and any other friends I forget.
Last night we put a Hostile D2 POS into reinforced mode, to our surprise only 22hrs stront.
Today we form up about 2hrs in advance to finish the job. We have hostiles around but nothing that can compare to the 80man'ish fleet we have. We take the POS down at aprox 0130 Eve Time.
I get mixed reports of hostiles all over the place but one that makes me wonder the most is the one in 5-D82P. Told is small but they are on gate and seem to want to fight. GREAT!!! GANK TIME....
I tell everyone to get to the gate and hold, I will suicide my Raven into the camp and make sure they agro. I see aprox 40-50 hostiles on the gate. Gave my guys a primary.
Screw it, I uncloak, my tank lasts all of 20 seconds, and tell the rest of my fleet to jump in and get ready for one heck of a battle. I didnt realize that the hostiles consisted of 12 carriers and 1 dread. But its okay, I tell everyoen fight anyway.
The secondary, third, and fourth FC's call primaries, warping in and out non stop fleet action. I jump back into the fight in my trusty zealot. We go back and forth, killing fighters, snipers, and such. Dosnt look good for us, we are losing 2 per 1 ship we kill.
Finally seems all support is dead, we call in for more backup and get teh carriers warp scrambled best we could. We continue to blast the fighters so that when support arrives it will be an easy battle.
MC volunteers, jumps numerious jumps and warps in 6-8 carriers of there own. Hostile carriers jump out, but we still have 6 locked down.
From there it was pretty much just ganking 1 carrier after another.
Over all without looking at killboards we probably lost close to 100 ships, killed aprox 50 ships, including 6 carriers.
What I like to call the enemy convo's after this 1.5hr fight and shows what great sportsmanship they have, tell me how they had a blast just as they did, and thanked us for the fight as well as I thanked them.
Great Job and effort to all... Whens Round 2???

Great fight. Lag was pretty bad till all the hostile support was dead , then I could actually target things. The number of drones out was incredible. I have never seen anything like it before. I lost one ship , came back from core in my hurricane , ran that out of ammo killing fighters , then proceeded to fly around in a harbringer that was at 5% structure the rest of the fight. Lets do this again sometime :)

It was an amazing fight between the Fountian Regulars (AXE, Aftermath, Xelas, FATAL and friends) and the Spartans.
Like normal it was 100% smack free, fun, and everyone brought it untill there was no more to be brought.
Much respet.
I joked before that one day both sides were just going to decide that it was time to throw it all in. Looks like both of us did, and I anticipate we'll do it again!

Edited by: doctorstupid2 on 02/04/2007 04:13:42 Edited by: doctorstupid2 on 02/04/2007 04:12:41 I think it's worth pointing out the majority of our BS's were semi-tanked for POS seiging and surviving 1+ doomsday blast, so were gimped to an extent in long range engagements. Personally my T2 sniperthron was capped at 125km lock range, and nothing but antimatter ammo, setup to sustain fire for long time and not shoot far. As deathgrip said, at the beginning, it looked like we were all going to die, and the majority of us did, it was without a doubt a fantastic fight. We did produce 6 carrier kills, but at very heavy losses. One of the most fun single fights I can recall ever having, even while coping with standard fleet lag and all that.
http://dl.eve-files.com/media/0704/wtfbatlle.jpg
Tried to get fraps of the action, but I was running under 4 frame/second most of the fight, and didn't want to risk totally locking up (plus I'm embarassed by the gimped "sniper" setup I had for POS/DD tanking lol)
lots of respect for one hell of a fight O7

That was insanely epic. I was hoping to get a bunch of fraps, but my scorp was like the 4th ship to go down. I just remember the FC saying he was going to suicide his ship and then everyone jump in. I jumped in and started jamming folks, I think I got on like 3-4 killmails only. The fight was going so so for like an hour, but once we killed basically all the enemy BS, it seemed the fight was going to go our way.
Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, MC cyno'ed in and proceded to do what they do best. It was pretty epic to see them just cyno like the cavalary, I can only imagine what was happening on the enemy TS.
Epic fight, good fun, ALOT of wrecks and drones were left.

Well I jumped in after DG in my Drake, the lag was so bad that by the time I loaded I was back in the station looking at nothing and still getting damage messages on the screen :( Jumped into my Blackbird and undocked just as I heard 'We need damps!!!' So I redocked and stripped the ECM off and fitted a load of damps and headed back to 5-D, this time I managed to jump in and load before I uncloaked and managed to get in on the fight :) Props to all involved, this was another Epic DG led op. Well .. on the capital channel it was a lot of:
FC: "Primary / Secondary ... can anyone actually select anything?.. I am getting like 1 frame every 2 minutes :) "
Me: "Dude I can't see nuthin .. too much lag from all these bodies and cans lying around .. I think my fighers flew off to find Elvis .."
Again .. Awesome fight .. only thing that could have made it any better would be less lag .. but what can you do ..

Well, thanks for the good time, EVERYONE.
I lost my first sniper ship.... it was by baby.... but I got on 13 kills in the process, so at least she died a good death.
There was no smack in local, and, at least on the sparta side, there was great communications. As one FC had to warp out or got popped, the next in command stepped right up and called targets.
I had to warp out 3 times to rep, and to remote rep others. Every time, it took over 1 minute to load the grid... so many wrecks, sooooo many fighters!
My death doesn;t appear on the SPARTA killboard, because I can't post on their boards as I'm not in SPARTA. But I want to post it.... so don't say I'm trying to skew numbers by not posting.
Thanks for the great fight everyone!

Damn, was that an Epic battle or what? Seriously, this must have been the most exciting battle i was involved in in my whole EvE life.
My poor Mega that was fitted from remains of the previous one (that was dead in 10 seconds when i made an ... umm wrong turn last night), but this one lasted majority of the battle, had to warp out 6 times being called primary, second last time i even had some enemy support scrambling me (RIP Hammerheads IIs, you saved my life... for a while), last time i warped in though there was a whole set of enemy inties waiting for me.
Amazing battle. Best part is that the battle wasn't confined to 1 system. Both sides had constant stream of pods flying back several jumps, and coming to the battle with new ships, sometimes engaging each other en-route. From what i hear, people were even fighting at planets after warping from the battle .
Even after we lost our capitals, we had a full mini-fleet assembled craving more action, and went on to hunt stragglers, ended up getting 2 Nighthawks, Raven, and couple of others.
Overall, the most exciting PvP night i've ever had. Grats and thanks to all that made it possible. Respect.

We were comparing loss values across the Sparta and D2 killboards... and we put ISK losses about even.... we lost more caps but fewer support ships, and Axe and friends lost at least 42 BS to our 13... so at the end the cash lost just about broke even.
Good fight again, all

Well maybe... But if you A) Figure we collected the Loot and B) All the fighters we killed. (And T2 Drones) I got ****ed about loosing my vulture then thorax so i fitted a drake with smart bombs.... Lots of drones and some fighters popped by them.
Anyway... Great fight all... Way to bring it... Though I think the dreads were a bit much
Now I know what was waiting for us at your pos when we poped thy cyno dictor before he could light up the cyno... Would have been interesting to say the least.

Aye, the ISK ship loses were about even from what I can find from comparing various killboards, but what started the whole fight was the 3WE POS and it died. We also spent about an hour after the battle looting and salvaging.
But an awesome, clean, FUN time all around. Too bad about the lag though

Ive been subjected to 300 man goonie blobs with less lag then what we experienced in that epic battle.
When I first jumped into that my FPS went from about 30 fps to 1 frame every 15-20 seconds. I was Totally convinced that I was going to be in a pod before I ever managed to move or target anything!
Ive been in a couple fleet battle of similar size but NONE with the shown dedication on both sides to see the other dead. My hats off to everyone.
The fight lasted so long that I ran out of T2 ammo. I switched to my mid range t1 ammo and kept at it. In the end the carriers finally got me while I was stuck in a bubble I only saw After I was in a pod heh.
Never would I have thought a fleet battle could have lasted as long as that one. _____________________________________________

Lost 4 ships - Drake, 2x Cara, Tristan - and didn't get on a single kill mail. Was in a Cormorant I bought off the market for the end with warp scramblers to hold the left-overs in place. My kill/death ratio is really sucking now. Hope my corp mates don't kick me out for bringing the average down so much.
Biggest fight I've been in. Lots of fun. 1 frame every 2 seconds - not so fun. Tried to warp out every time I started to take damage - never got out before dying. Never lost my pod, though.
And an interesting tactic for a gate-camping gang would be to station a good damage dealing ship at every planet to catch all the people warping out for a breather. I know there was at least one report of someone getting ganked by an Eos at a planet. Also, would have been great if a smaller Xelas gang could have been stationed 1 or 2 jumps closer to core to catch reinforcements or people coming back for round 2. (But, I'm relatively new at this fleet stuff, so this is probably not news to anyone.)
P.S. Number 1 request for CCP: Full killmails. I know I did a good bit of damage to quite a few of the ships that died, and I know I was scrambling more than 1 carrier that died. Would be nice to have my contribution acknowledged.

That really is too bad some people were unable to actually get into the fight. For me at least, I had no module lag, no failed locks, drones responded, and my ship moved when I told it to. I was struggling a lot with low frame rate, even running "fleet" graphics settings (if they were turned down any more the monitor would shut off, hehe). The worst part was loading grid on warp-in once the fight had been going for a while, thought I was going to disconnect on a couple warp-ins . A lot of people from both sides seem to have been unable to load the grid, which is a damn shame.
As for damage to loss ratios, On Axe's killboard we lost about 40% of what was destroyed, between the other alliances present I do not doubt we lost as much if not slightly more than was destroyed. As was said, at the beginning it seemed we were all going to die. But in the end we got a ton of salvage and loot, and one hell of a fun time. Again thanks and respect to all parties involved, I'll be thinking about this fight for some time to come

Axe and Friends, stop debating who lost more Isk.
Over all it was a great fight, and probably came up pretty close in actual Dead Ships.
The fact still remains our 1 goal that night was kill the d2 pos, and it died. We killed God knows how many fighters. We held the system when it was all done, gathered about 150 cans in loot and wrecks. While we did this D2+ Friends setup some small gate camps to gank people going solo to get a few more kills.
All in all, was great FUN, and that is all that needs to be said.

Edited by: Biosman on 02/04/2007 16:28:07 This kind of warfare is what eve is all about to me,props to our enemies and our brave pilots for making it all happen.
however although a gm said the node was fine, maybe ccp might think about implementing an option to the configuation panel so for large fleet battles we can all turn of "models" therefore all ships and drone models are of the lowest possible lod at all times. i am sure when fighter drones are concerned a 4 vertex 1 x plane for a drone and/or ship would help the server and client considerably and allow for a better working fleet combat ability. our cards wouldnt have to render 200 + objects x 100 + polygons or more just 200 + objects @ 2 x polygons/1 x quad

Ok, so the node was fine. Then CCP needs to look at other issues. Like all the friggin wrecks we had on the gate, + drones/fighters, + people fighting = 2 fps. CCP needs to do something as this wasn't even a massive fleet fight. I think the most I saw in the system was 110?
Some sort of fleet graphics would be nice, like removing wrecks, drones, etc. or using a lower res graphic, something, anything to help with this "lag"/low fps. This issue is really the biggest flaw with eve.
Other than the above, great fight again D2 and friends. We always seem to have some very enjoyable fights against you guys.

I had not much lag at all. could even recall my fighters easily and rep them and send em away again. 1fps on your computer doesn't show the server is lagging. 90% of the lag is client lag. But hey, d¦ has always lag when they lose. And they petition alot as well. I hope GMs are being very restrictive in the future and don't replace anything in the game at all. Never got any replacements in UO and it became a bad habit in Eve that the first thing alot do after losing something is they open the petition window and start whining. Like when you lost your soother and you whine til mom brings it back.

I also wish missile explosion animations, pretty much any animation could be turned off for fleet battles of this scale, with that many fighters, smartbombs, remote rep, cyno, missile explosions, ship explosions, dictor bubbles, the CTRL-shift-alt-E/T just can't reduce the clientside graphics lag enough, even when running at minimum resolution, no depth buffer, and 15 bit colour.... still a amazing night and fight, wish I saw more of it though.

Damm girl You missed out...I lost 2 ships, but there was no way I was missing out on that battle Second time I was podded back to branch...but self destruct and I was back again
I would have flown back in a shuttle if I had run out of ships in YZ.
That fight was one for the scrap books.
And for the Haters...compare this thread to "certain" other ones...both sides took huge losses, the objective by Axe and Fatal was achieved ie POS killed.

Its not much because it was made in short order and I wanted to get it out quickly. It just a raw cut and I put the music I was listing to when I was recording it.

Your killboard link's going to get wtfpwnt, but you're missing three carriers; there are a total of six on the AXE board. Probably some of 'em aren't D2, though.

hey larietta hope your still out killing stuff and not turned in to a carebear :P was a great fight by all. warped my raven out at 14% structure after i jumped in to the system just got out of range of a carrier with a warp scram got my armor repped and warped back in and out a few times then landed on top of a carrier lasted about 45 sec with 9 carriers a dread and Megathron targeting me. went back for a cruser lost that befor the system had even loaded and then picked up my ceptor for some warp scraming a carrier and eve crashed after 3-4min of scraming him. think i lasted long enuf for him to be held and killed anyway had great fun but the lag sucked big time, load time on the grid was crazy when warping or jumping in. The problem with looking on any one kb for an accurate impression of the fight is even assuming they post all their losses, this is a multi-party conflict on both sides, so some losses simply wont be there (in this case, Sparta carriers and support). AXE has done some to aleviate this problem (and stop us from having to hunt through KBs so much) by linking ours to a number of fountain area corps, but it's still not perfect.
Overall looks like both sides did pretty well for themselves (honestly I've never trusted any killboard's ISK-damage calculators, they're so arbitrary and disconnected from the reality of what went on). We managed to take out six carriers and you guys managed to make us pay a pretty penny for the victory with a boatload of support. -------------------------- There is only one +6 sword of WTFPWN in Eve, and only the lag is allowed to equip it. |

Frankly, all the isk-calculators are ****. Anyone with a math background would be horrified.
1. Many items have wildly innacurate values. Lots of faction gear is still priced at 0 isk.
2. The same price is used over time. A 80m cov ops 2 loss at the height of the cartel is reduced to 20m isk in a few months when invention drops the prices.
2. Mods not destroyed are ignored in the loss data. This SHOULD be somewhat evenly balanced, given ship to fitting cost rations are at least vaguely the same access all ship classes.
3. All damage is counted but not all loss.
This is the biggie. Send one frigate with a sensor damp with another alliance, have it target, damp one cycle, unlock, move targets, repeat.
All of a sudden you're on all 6 carrier kills and you've done 5 billion isk in "damage" with a tech 1 frigate. Riiiiiight...
At the very least, the isk damage calculator should divide the ship isk loss by the ratio of ships you had on the killmail. If you have 5 out of 10 ships, you get half the damage assigned to your alliance.
A slightly less naive method would assume all ships (on average across all battles) were involved from the start, and then split up the damage based on average DPS rates from the various classes of ships.
If you have a battleship, and a friend with a tackle ship, the battleship gets 90% of the damage assigned. Then again, that underrepresents the importance of non-damage-dealing ships.
So maybe the naive approach is best.
Regardless, I wouldn't be surprised if EVERY 0.0 alliance had efficiency rates above 50%. Which is quite clearly impossible. You can't all be winning all the time.

OMG...
Both Sides took heavy loss's. That is expected when you jump into 120 fighters, 12 carriers, and 40 support ships.
Some things people forget to notice -
1 - Fighters are not counted on the killboards. We killed pretty much every fighter the the remaining 6 carriers had + a good half of the ohter 6 carriers fighters. Dont care what you say, fighters are not cheap.
2 - We killed every support ship you had for the most part
3 - We accomplished our mission, D2 POS dead
4 - You destroyed our fleet, and managed to kill some of us 2 and 3 times
5 - We held the battlefied at the end and collected the loot and salvaged the wrecks, the salvage alone was worth 700mil isk + and thats what I know of
6 - We all had a great battle, and took heavy loss's
7 - Over 200 ships / pods killed in that system in this one battle
8 - I dont know many other groups that would jump into a situation like that, 120 fighters alone can destroy a fleet, not even to mention the bs's and such you all had. So lets leave it at good fight and stop the number crunching please.

I totally agree here with DeathGrip .. was a hell of a fight but please enough with the accountants :) ..
I lost one of the carriers, already have new fighters built and ship replacement so lets not get hung up on the numbers .. the thread is simply to show respect for the mutual parties involved. I think it will be something chatted about during gatecamps and back hallways for time to come .
For others .. it was just another battle , for those that were there, they do not need to hear about the numbers to know that there was an insane amount of carnage that night .. I wouldn't have missed it for the world.
There were questions on the carrier losses .. I can confirm that there were 6 lost .. 3 by D2, 3 by Sparta. On the spartan side, there was a single carrier in each of three different corps so TBH it was not a real damaging blow seeing just about every half decent alliance these days just builds their own and we are no exception in that regard, but none the less it was 6 capital kills for you guys .. gratz!
At the end of the day, Sparta and D2 retired from the battlefield .. simple as that .. we lost the fight. But: a) we knew we were getting into a furball with 80 hostiles fitted for damage so a pat on our own backs for having the ballz to bring it to the gate and for the hilarious comments on our TS .. we had a riot as we pretty much knew jumping in we were gonna take heavy losses so there was no freaking out or panicing.. although one of out guys gets a slap in the head for going afk .. especially when he was the return cyno :P
b) I have nothing but respect for the pure tenacity of Deathgrip and co. and them having the ballz to bring it over and over again! ... When we started calling primaries it was "*** in a raven .. primary .. *** in a megathron .. secondary .. 1 hr later it was more like .. *** in a thorax primary .. *** in a ... wtf .. dude came back in an Ibis ! :) .. ) I know some of the support on both sides were into their 3rd and 4th ships as the battle progressed ... and for that .. you can have nothing but respect .
We ganked some of your capitals a while back , you hammered ours that night , I can only imagine what will happen next in our caffinee twitch induced all-night gate camps in that out of the way place called Fountain!
Boys .. this is gonna be a long war .. :)

This was a great battle, our ships were not setup for it, but we hung in there for as long as possible, I lost my Scorpion after a few carrier jams, then came back in a dampner Celest, and a couple more cruisers. All in all, it was a great fight on both sides. Everyone keep up the good work!

Its nice to know there are plenty of mature people on both sides of the front that can appreciate Eve for what it is: A GAME. Many people take this stuff too seriously. LoL... Yea wrong fight again. We had like 4 fights that night, so I mixed them up myself. When we jumped out carriers from the G95 fight we jumped them into a hostile gang of 6-7 bs's that were agro'd in a bubble. Way overkill, but was fun.
