I was wondering, there is a term right now that is heavely use to describe xelas fix and mc "BoB's pet". As far as I know those alliance don't pay "rent" to bob, and their motives to defend bob are most likely defending someone that helped them in the past or a friendly entity. They share intel chanel's (correct me if I'm wrong but I had some evidence of that), and if some people attack one member, the others will come and crush the attacking force like... well an alliance.
On Joshua's Foiritain map, that fact, that unity is perhaps transcribed as a big blue paint on Bob territory and his ally, and I assume that for a long time that hasn't been a particular problem for the bob's allies. The problem of this bias is a perception problem, how does a non bob and allies member transcribe that map? "This is bob territory, they are renting it, they are the industrial wing of bob, their slave their pets etc. etc.".
This situation is especially false and unfair for the Mercenary Coalition, even if bob accepted basicly to give them a piece of teritory I assume that in the deal was an acceptance that MC's side won't be always be something that will please bob foreign office. (I'm perhaps the last guy that still believe in mercenary coalition relative neutrality, but I assume that using mercenary is simply something that is against the policy of most of the alliances, that simply don't jump in front of their mind and they prefer do the dirty job themselves).
"Strong alliances" between alliance exist in other part of eve, ra and goon, "The North" could be painted in an united color, same perhaps with ragoon. But they simply don't like that and prefer to have different colors because they like to be recognized. To have some "sovereignty" but the situation in the north and in the south, seems to be pretty similar anyway.
What do you think of that, is "Joshua's map" the origin of the "BoB pet's" name? Should perhaps MC Xelas and FIX be placed on the map and leave under the blue banner only the real rent payer? Or perhaps we should create a new "figure" on the map, like a big unicolor border to form the different coalitions? ----

Imho, the term "pets" can be applied to anyone that:
1/ Isn't strong enough to defend it's space against even a moderate attack.
2/ Has given up trying to do anything more than getting a fat wallet.
I don't consider Fix or MC, for example, to be Bob's pets, but I put Xelas in this category...

The reason the place is displayed as BoB blue is because the area is Band of Brothers sovereign space, and noone are providing a credible counterclaim to the area, despite who may or may not be living there. -----

Bob came up to people in DDC with haulers filled with livestock. After much drooling a deal was made. Hence why when DDC rolls into the system its best to lock up your farm animals because we will glady "Liberate" them from there masters.

I am not sure when it comes to the whole "Pet" thing. People automatically assume bob pets are people who live in bob controlled space. It is no lie and widly known that AXE is living in bob controlled area. They control the stations and run the POS towers yet we roam around in the space tring to kill every target we come across. We might not own the space so to say but thats one less thing we need to worry about. In some form we all pay for out right to live in the areas we live in. Eather its keeping a POS network or its time and ships spend on defending the space.
So in ways we are all pets of someone in some form. I know if we want to play the pet game... I am a pet of DDC.

The pet name is what bob uses themselves. At the end of the ASCN war, we asked what it would take for my old corp to stay in Esoteria. SirMolle called someone he called Pet Master, "he deals with Pets" he said.
We declined to be called that and the alliance Executive Outcomes took the deal and have the plesure in livnig in a station named "Pet Shop".
The origin is BoB themselves.

The Coalition (what a boring name) hate BoB and it is BoB they are after. The ones fighting with BoB are something we fight just because they are in the way of the main objective. The BoB side got their name after who is actually the enemy and not after who is doing the fighting. you'll never jump alone

And this is the category of people that have decency and honor left even after a catastrophic outcome of a war. I remember our own waterloo with the end of xetic. We took the little t1 friggies that were left and we gave the finger to ASCN and the [5], even if we were offered "incentives and priviledges" for exchange of obedience. Empire veld hugging is/was 100 times better than being someones slave.
You bid your time and you come back stronger than before. On the other hand pets will always be pets.
EDIT: On the subject of MC, if you had asked me a year ago I'd say "maybe". Seleene made the mistake of delivering her neutrality virginity to the forum virility of molle and the seductive flames of DBP. After accepting a place withing bob's borders (how long ago was that? 1.5yrs?) they slowly and steadily became one as the rest. The "stolen" thread from their forums over a year ago clearly shows that they willingly became as such too. The plan was always to defend bob if it needs be and to do their bidding on a yearly basis for exchange of some space and defence assistance if it needs be (which is more than required when you **** off entire alliances). If the above is not the definition of pet, I don't know what is.
Ofcourse they are a step above the random assorted pets someone will see in bob space, so once can call them "head pets".

I have to take issue with the OP in what he says in regards of Xelas. We have been loyal to BoB and they have been loyal to us. It is not a realtionship of equals as no-one is equal to BoB.
Xelas has been at war for nearly a year now. How many alliances could sustain that and survive as we have? We have lost and regained our outpost, lost and rebuilt POS's, killed POS's suffered many losses and had victories. We fight for our space in Fountain and we are happy to see new allies come to the fight- Corelum, Aftermath (former Xelas corps) etc and now Axiom. We are not a rich alliance- not because we pay rent but because all we do is fight. Are these the actions of so-called pets?
We stand fast.
We have had ASCN, Dusk and Dawn, Sparta and now Insurgency all in Fountain attacking us.
Keep it coming, would be boring to go back to ratting and mining anyway.
You need to reconsider the term pets- of course I expect it to be used deragatorily by D2, RAGoon and others. But "pets" as was stated was what ASCN had supporting them. BoB would not tolerate "pets" and rightly so.

The origin is BoB themselves.
I'm not an official from my alliance, so don't get overly hyped about what I'm about to type, but I thought I'd toss some words out regardless.
The original suggestion for our station name was Candy Mountain, but we chose Pet Shop as a gag. Always meant to change it but never got around to it, and at this point I honestly can't remember if it's still Pet Shop or not >_> Meant to look at it a few days ago to see if we'd changed it, but I didn't care enough beyond clicking to dock.
When we rolled in and took the area, everyone called us pets. Call us whatever you want, we don't really care. The flip side of the name is that now you're* getting killed by the very people you disparage
Frankly, I've rather enjoyed being on BoB's side. We get lots of targets, a lot of fun, and they've been fine people to fly with. Personally, I don't understand what all the animosity is about. I figure the guys on the other side of the gate would be fun to play with as well and are probably normal people just like us. We've all got families and lives outside of EVE and play to have fun, right? So why all the mudslinging and name calling?
*I don't know that we've had a real engagement with AAA, so take this statement as impersonal and the word "you're" as directed a no one in particular; I'm a fairly casual player, unlike most of my alliance, so I miss out on a lot of the PVP engagements. I do want to note, however, that there are some top notch pilots in the area we've fought and I had a great experience a few nights ago where our enemies didn't log off. They knew where we were and jumped in anyways and it was a great fight all around. Props to people in 0.0 who don't run and logoffski.
I love this game

I know: because there obviously is a reason to justify yourselves. Just seeing you treating -Y- as you're friends out of a sudden more then clearly shows, that you're not making your own decissions. That's why people call you pets.

I'm a pet, quite happy to be one as well. We get to live in the best region in eve and do whatever we feel like bar two things, one of which doesn't interest me the slightest and the other one is negotiable. My alliance is not capable of holding such a region on its own and hence we live in Bob space. On top of that all we have to do is shoot people. \o/
My only complaint is that the friendlies list is quite a lot bigger then expected
The reason we, nor other alliances are alliances in a similar position are not on the alliance map is simply because they hold no space. They reside in someone else's space and it is marked as such.
Anyway, lets slide into a slightly different subject, "pets" living outside of their "masters" space. The north for example has quite a few alliances living in and around D2 space, what would happen if D2 pulled their standings towards one of those alliances, would the surrounding alliances do the same as they are friends of D2? If so then technically the system there is fairly identical to that of Bob's, the only difference is that Bob Pets get flamed for being a pet
As for the map, listing the major "pets" on the map as residents, displaying station locations, frontline changes and coalitions are planned to be marked on the map eventually but between pwning stuff and real life projects i dont have enough time left to sit down and ponder about how to implement it. -----

We are client states opperating within the sphere of influence of the BoB superpower. We primarily manage and defend regions of space that BoB desires control over but does not want oversee on a daily basis. We also serve as auxiliaries in the combined BoB fleets and guerillas to harass and destabilize hostile powers. It is very much a mutually benificial relationship. The "pets" gain access to valuable tracts of 0.0 and the security of BoB's and fellow "pets" firepower should we come under the risk of being overwhelmed. BoB frees itself of time consuming managerial/industrial overhead so that it can focus more heavily on pvp. In addition, BoB's millitary power is agumented by many quality pilots that serve to flesh out their own fleets and are also capable of carrying out campaigns on their own. The recent battle in 5-D in which 6 coalition carriers were destroyed involved no actual BoB pilots.

as a member of a "pet" alliance at the lowly grunt level, I can tell you that I don't really think about it that much. Then again, I don't have a very big e-peen. It's not the word itself that is offensive, it's how people use it. You can call me a pet, muppet, slave, tenant, vassal whatever, but if you're a coalition guy trying to be offensive I'm sure you'll find a way to make it sound offensive, regardless of what word you use.
Are we subservient to bob? TBH, I don't know enough about the inner workings of my alliance to say. It seems to be a mutually respectful relationship to me. I'm sure BoB could crush us if they wanted. But even if they couldn't I'd prolly still do what they said just because they're really good at what they do and its fun flying with them. I'm sure my enemies can twist that into a bad thing, but in the end I'm having a lot of fun collaborating with BoB and I'm increasing my player skills at the same time.
So if people are preoccupied with maps, that's fine by me. And if you define your corp/alliance by how that map represents you, then ok. That's just not what I care about when I log in.

I think the main point is that the relationship between BoB and their "pets" makes all parties involved stronger. Our enemies don't like that and so they try to undermine it. We generally ignore their attempts and let the insults roll off our backs.
