See Wrangler's post. Apparantly the servers were taken down to fix a possible exploit.
And to clarify; Eve is on GMT, CET is currently two hours behind GMT because of daylight savings. Evetime is 17.16 now.

yeh its 1812gmt here. i also think that everyone in EVE should be compensated with a free day. almost everytime i seem to try and log on recently, during the day or for example now, its due to some bloody extended dt that i cant get on.

For the people who are confused about the time.
The uk are currently on BST, British Summer Time. Since our clocks went forward a bit back. Server is on gmt. In the winter when we change our clocks again we'll go back to GMT.

I don't mean to sound like a fanboi (if you check my character age/SP, you'll see I'm still pretty green) - but I'll trade all those free days for the amount of free content and updates they give to us. And I certainly think it's a better business decision to drop the server for a day than leave in game an exploit that would rapidly inflate the economy and screw over every single legit player.
They told you to put a long skill into training. Monetarily you're not exactly falling behind anyone - we're all on hold. Now would be a fantastic time to get your wife/gf standings up - do some laundry, watch a movie, hell walk around outside for a bit. EVE will be back:P

Emergancy CCP dev meeting and technistians meeting to fix the server,
1. discussion about who should put the kettle on.
2. who should they nominate to shoose to make fix the server
3 arguments about who should fix the server.
4 the person that is to fix the server makes more tea.
5 the person that is to fix the server serves tea to the dev's
6 the dev's say thank you.
7 the person to fix the server looks at the server in dissaray,
8. the person then swears at the server.
9 the person that is to fix the server says ahh.. ok gimme 30 mins...(hence estimated time)
10 the server still isnt fixed so they get more tea.
11. the server eventually gets fixed using some kind of temporary and bodged fix. readdy to be fixed another day,
12 dev's go onto forums and laughs at whining players while sipping tea.

Or get EVE-Mon and look at EVE date/time and server status (offline, online, x users) in its bottom info bar.

the reasonthe server is down is becuase CYVOK's late Titan "Steve" was angry at the time of death,
he is now stalking the servers as a ghost and is killing server node's at random.

Since the servers were taken down to investigate a possible exploit, my guess is that the ones who are on the server now wants to make sure that the problem has been fixed before letting people back on.

Personally I like that the techies don't waste time telling us what's wrong or covering all their bases, it's obviously all hands on deck. Whenever we have a problem at work we end up having to spend more time telling people that yes, there's a problem, and yes, we're trying to fix it than we actually do fixing it...
