I am in a small pirate corp in 0.3 space and a 50 member industrial corp moved in and said they would wipe us out and set up a POS. I decide to suicide there POS in Reapers over and over again so it will stay on, useing double the fuel (thus costing them double to stay there). They petitioned me and ccp told me to stop. My question is how can I make it so there POS uses more fuel without getting banned? Before I was stopped I was up to 90 Reapers in about 4 days.

Look what sort of guns modules it has, find a ship that cant be harmed by them and sit at range taking pot shots where it cant hit you, or orbit faster than the guns track and waste ammo etc etc etc. Kublai is looking for a new corp! recruit me today |

Well the thing is, you were using free ships to trigger a defense mechanism, so you were spending nothing yourself while dealing lots of damage. While it was a clever and brutally effective tactic, I can see why CCP told you to cut it out.
Attempting a real raid on the POS, if it's worth it or possible, could help. Or, war dec them and declare your terms as them leaving system. Pod their haulers until the war is settled. War deccing for territory can't really be petitioned...

Find a ship setup thats cheap and can tank the 3 cruise launchers, or sit outside of range and take shots at the pos with the web and warp dis batt wastes away on you (not sure about the ranges). Kublai is looking for a new corp! recruit me today |

I too think it must be to the usage of free newb ships that made it petitionable. The problem is someone could be making alts and do the same thing to any POS at no cost or risk forever - it's just really cheesy.
If you were to use proper ships (even just regular t1 frigs or whatever) or if you can tank the fire then that should be ok.

executioner with an MWD and a cap battery can attain pretty crazy speeds for a long time.
That might work.
also for a cheap alternative: Shuttles. Buy a few hundred and suicide those. They cost money so CCP shouln't have any beef with it... thoguh I could be wrong.

True but I think they had an issue with the fact that he wasn't attacking to do damage, just to get it to go into reinforced mode. Thus, potential exploit.

Also, not knowing much about POSes, could a sniper battleship/BC potentially destroy any of the structures inside? If so you could try balancing a tank with range to snipe out the control tower.

Interesting... Now comes some more of the tactical questions...
Do POS sentries cycle targets the way gate/station sentries do? (Never actually seen the guns in action before except to grab a noobalt and make sure things were firing) If not, setup something with a massive tank. Warp in, grab aggro, and then get a couple of your corpies in to buff. (Remote shield boost/Remote armor repair) And just sit there, maybe run them out of ammo :)

Edited by: pandymen on 19/04/2007 17:47:08 To the OP, ask a GM for specific info as to why you weren't allowed to use your tactic before. Specifically, find out what is not allowed. If it involves using the rook ship to do the damage, then that can be fixed. Use shuttles.
If it has to do with a griefing issue, simply point out that they have threatened your corp and you are in a turf war. You shouldn't need to wardec to make that clear as it is already lowsec. If necessary, have your corp wardec them and enjoy catching their haulers around in the belts.
It honestly should have nothing to do with you not doing any dmg to them and just costing them cash. It is a perfectly valid tactic. They have several ways to remedy the situation.
A. Fix relations between corps B. Kill you before you get to them
So there isn't really a griefing issue that can't be remedied by their actions.

No, you can only shoot at the tower, or the shield or whatever. You can not target anything else inside (including ships)

Off hand I'd say a Drake or Ferfox can easily tank just the 3 cruise lauchers with only T1 fit. Thats with a passive tank if you want something good and not have to worry about. But you can easily set up a perma-tank with any BC, than I would set it up for sniping and start shooting their control tower if I were you, just to speed things up a bit. If your lucky and can tank the POS and none of them are online you might be able to destroy the thing, in which case if I were them I move out of the system or build a bigger better POS.
(This comes from someone who don't know much about POS, except the fact that I looked into it a few times, so if im wrong someone tear apart what I said)

if its a caldari tower with cruise missiles then a ferox or drake will NOT be able to tank. The way towers work is they get big bonuses to damage on what would otherwise be normal sized weapons.
I agree that you should check with the GM's if its because you were using rookie ships then switch to shuttles. This SHOULD be a valid tactic for a single person to enact economic terrorism. If the GM's again say you cant do it than, this game has lost its edge, as for it to be elevated, and finally make an appeal to the community because this should be and is a valid tactic for costing a "hostile" force isk.

Use anything other than free noob ships, you should not get any stop requests from ccp as long as your actually expending resources instead of the free replacement ship that is only meant so you dont get stuck somewhere.
Also you can just war dec them and camp the route into and out of the system, or ambush their haulers anywhere you can forcing them not only to have to protect them but to also run them without expanders (if they chose to use expanders instead of i-stabs, nano's and WCS's then all the better for you) so it will take them alot longer to move stuff about.
Also keep an eye on where they are getting their ice from, they probably arent buying it off the market so that means they are going to be mining it themselves. Try and ambush a mining op and make an effort to keep them from getting ice. You dont actually have to kill them if you focus on their canisters from long range using cruise missiles from a stealth bomber. You can keep them from mining ice with little risk and CCP will not stop you.
To be brutally honest you cant realy displace a pirate corp, they dont run a POS or anything like that so their only requirement is being in low sec as to not get shot down by faction police. All they realy have done is provide you with a constant and stationary source of targets and income.
Also be aware that since its an industrial corp 1/2 of them are probably alts so I seriously doubt you will be dealing with 50 people at the same time.
What i Suggest you do is War dec them and the disrupt all their operations in any way possible. Force them to pay you weekly to stop. Stealth Bombers against mining ops by targeting canisters is probably your BEST chance to get them to pay you, they cant make any ISK if they cant mine ore now can then.
If you realy want to push them out inform some merc corps of the pathetic state of their POS, honestly with just 3 cruise launchers you may find some corps willing to Kill the POS for free just because it is so poorly setup. ------------------------------- C.D's Formula for success ------------------------------- Credit Card = Game Time Card Gametime Card = ISK Therefore Credit Card = ISK.

The three cruise launchers will only do 46 dps on a caldari tower. You could easily tank the tower setup and waste their cruise missles.
Cruise missle batteries do not get a damage bonus. The cruise battery gives a missle veloctiy bonus of 2.5 which gives the cruise missles a range of 180km+ without including a caldari tower velocity bonus. So sniping without a tank isn't an option.
The webber stops you from orbiting the tower with an interceptor unfortunately. "If you had a gang of 81127 kestrals you could alpha strike Tranquility Server into a smoking hole in the ground" |

Edited by: Nalar Marnith on 20/04/2007 01:59:10 Cruise missiles won't be doing much damage to any of your smaller ships however. Try it with some cheap t1 frigs and see how long you can last. Find out the range on the scram too, if you can stay outside the range on that you'll be able to warp in/out and waste their missiles pretty easy :)

I don't know all that much about POS weaponry, but, if you just want to waste their ammo and stuff, get yourself a frig or cruiser with fof defender missiles, these will wipe out any missiles coming your way and are relativly cheap. Just sit there taking pot shots at the tower and just make sure your cargo hold is full of defender missiles.
That is the problem with just using missiles for pos weaponry, they can be shot down, real men use artilery. _ Check out my blog at RantingsofaCarebear.blogspot.com Privateers: Those who don't adapt become victims of harsh irony |

Cruise missles on a pos have 25% of the explosion radius and a 100% increase in explosion velocity. You could use a bunch of kestrals with defender missles to down the cruise missles. You'd only need two or three to do a good job. Use some bs class dps if you are prepared to risk it. Depending on the size of the pos it'll take quite some time to knock it into reinforced mode. Passive tanked drake, not even that expensive a set up either, will sit there and take damage from 3 cruise launchers all day, but i suppose if they have other people warp in and start firing you'd be screwed....
Kind of like the Triforce in Zelda, only not quite as potent.

Lmfao, how pathetic are you Indigo? You were told to stop because of spam and harassment. We received over 100 kill mails from that. I cant imagine you yourself are making any money of this. I honestly wouldnt enjoy logging on, wracking myself on a POS for a few hours and then logging off. For those of you who dont know a thing about POS's please dont post anymore. It doesnt help to sulk over a 210 Mil loss to these "industrialists" either.

It's only spam and harrassment where he has no chance of killing the pos.
Now if the pos actually ran out of ammo (which is highly unlikely) then it might be a different story. "If you had a gang of 81127 kestrals you could alpha strike Tranquility Server into a smoking hole in the ground" |

Well, there's always options you can look at. Consider seeing if they are using 1 specific kind of cruise missile (Wrath for instance). Uber tank vs that, and pound their tower with missiles, guns, or lasers (ammoless!).
If they're not hitting you with the same kind of cruise missiles, I know that cruisers are small enough that their missiles are probably going to get a sig penalty. Combined with defender spammage (aka caracal), you're probably golden.
Dropping someone's POS in reinforced mode would get old fast, and I suspect it's a good form of economic terrorism. In the end, I'd offer to stop on the grounds they pay your corp 250-500m / wk to leave them alone. Afterall, their CEO already said you cost them 210m just so far... and you've been doing it dreadfully inefficiently! Imagine how much more it'll cost them if you're literally unkillable, and just tank their pos with an alt all day (and shooting back with ammoless weapons if you can) =)
Don't forget that you could try "bumping" things out of their pos. The larger alliances get away with it, so you may be able to as well (I don't know what the exact mechanics are with that, but it may be possible. It's worth experimenting with to find out for sure).

I belive they do it by warping a large capital ship, such as a freighter, carrier, dread and even a mothership at zero to the pos. There is no cliping in warp so you are able to enter their forcefield. Once your drop out of warp cliping takes hold and you are sent a high speed out of the pos, bumping any ships in there on your way :) _ Check out my blog at RantingsofaCarebear.blogspot.com Privateers: Those who don't adapt become victims of harsh irony |

Nope. POS defence reaches farther than any sniper ship. And you can't destroy POS structures like that. You have to bring down shields first.
