I'm curious to see what lengths people go to in this game to try and be better and more succesful. If you can't tell us what the exploit was, can you tell us what they were gaining? ... or what others were losing?

No, only that whatever anyone gained was removed, and it didn't involve anyone losing anything.

"We realized that the enemies of our friends in an undisclosed alliance had found a haxploit we installed for use by previously mentioned friends. Since haxploiting is not acceptable (except when used by our friends), we had to install new logging features and punish the haxploiters (not our friends, our friends' enemies). However, since we are not removing the haxploit itself (we care about our friends), we can't disclose the nature of the haxploit."

No, it means we have fixed the exploit and dealt with the ones who exploited, but we don't discuss exploits. Which is just what was written in my post.

Although we all trust CCP implicitly with running all aspects of the game and with making certain that everyone plays fairly,
I think the issue with wanting to know what the exploit was falls into the category of many wanting to make certain that neither they, their friends, their corporation, or their alliance was the victim of the exploit and that CCP just happened to miss it in their case.
Not to mention, we are just curious as hell and can't help ourselves, we love deep dark gossip. That's why we play an mmpog anyway.

Ok then, no one, no ones friends, no corporations or alliances were the victim of this exploit. We have had Devs and GMs dealing with this and all consequences of the exploit was reversed.

there was no exploit that is the reason they are not telling us about it.
What really happened is the DEV and GM team all decided to go to the PUB for a few hours. And since they cant leave the server running while no one is there they turned it off.
why else does Wrangler's breath smell like Whiskey even on the forums.

Maybe we just have to wait for the whinage:
"OMG! I can't do <whatever> anymore. That was my play style. You nerfed the game, EVE it's gonna die! I will quit...cancelling account... etc etc."
Let's watch out for those. When it happens, <whatever> == fixed_exploit.
And don't forget to ask if you can have their stuff, or at least the stuff that was not removed by GMs.

i think this thread deserves an epic - ITS JUST A GAME - and you can go spend time with the family while its down
you guys take some things for granted with your life and with the game if you get mad over an extended downtime
To CCP: i only hope you guys can continue the single persistent server as the subscribers go into the millions it would be a shame for some of the core values of EVE to be broken down...

Thanks for the reply Wrangler, and I do actually feel better. Of course that does not appease my hedonistic desire to know all the little dark secrets. You know, all that inquiring minds bit. Anyway, thanks for finding the problem, for fixing the problem, and for letting us know the truth. It may hurt a bit at first, but things we will get better, and trust will return as long as CCP continues to tell the truth and to follow their policies. All in all, I love the game, otherwise I would not still be around. I also think CCP has done a good job, but us customers always want more.
As for the it's just a game thing, I don't know how much time you spend playing this derned thing, but the it's just a game does not fly.
There are many aspects of the corporate and alliance life I just can't participate in because I do have a life and can not dedicate that kind of game play. Of course that does not stop me from playing when I can or from incurring the wrath of my significant other when she finds out that I'm gonna be tied up for a couple hours online with my alternate life friends.
You get out what you put in, RL or game.

No it is more frustration on the part that it interrupts people's routines, plans, endeavours, etc. I for one have to wait until I get home to start my skill that could have been started this morning before I headed out for the day. You add up these unscheduled DT, or Extended DT, over the course of the month/year, it adds up to a lot of missed training time.

train big skills whenever you go offline - the 12 hour or less ones should be done when you are semi-at your keyboard.

Frankly, there are so many things in "normal gameplay" in Eve that resemble exploits in other games, I'd find it reassuring to know what an actual Eve exploit is.

Agreed. This game has a reputation (and rightfully earned) that nothing is an exploit no matter how obvious it is until the devs can be bothered to patch it out or make a statement on it. At the very least it would be nice to know what kind of exploit it was, even if we can't have the specific details. It must have been something really uber for the devs to go through this kind of effort to patch it out. ---- AUS Corp Lead Megalomanic |

Quote: Our policy is not to discuss exploits
Your "policy" seems to be to not reveal anything about anything, it's getting quite annoying now. If your policy is to not talk about exploits even after they have been fixed, then change your policy. All this cloak and dagger stuff annoys the hell out of me.

Sheer comedy, the Management tell us something bad happened, and that its now fixed, no reason to panic, and with this good news, some people with their sharp intelect and wit decide to rant at the GM's for something so trivial its unbelieveble.
Just take good news for what it is.... good news!

Yes, and the chocolate ration has been increased this week to 20g (even though it was 25g last week). Baseless claims, even from CCP, don't have meaning without something to back them up. ---- AUS Corp Lead Megalomanic |
