Just before the regular downtime today, we discovered an exploit. Due to this we decided to extend the downtime until the exploit could be fixed, and any damage caused by it be reversed. We were successful in both these goals and Tranquility is now back up and running.
We could not disclose the true nature of the extended downtime, as that might have notified the exploiters. We hope you accept our apologies for the vague announcement, and for any inconvenience this extended downtime may have caused you.

Any chance we could get some information on what the exploit was now that its fixed? Just out of curiosity, of course; it shouldn't matter since it no longer exists.

Our policy is not to discuss exploits, but be assured that it was fixed and the exploiters has been dealt with by our friendly neighbourhood GMs.

We only need to know it was fixed, perhaps what it effected would be nice, but us being in the dark is best.
Bugs should be handled the same way as exploits.

If its your policy not to discuss exploits even after the fact, what happened to the 8/10 Angel complexes?
Or the instant-war trick?
Or putting dreadnoughts on the undock point of a station?
Or using containers as warpin points around gates?
Or bookmark bomb shuttles?
They seem pretty "discussed" to me.
Or are they only allowed to be discussed until they are fixed?

What were they going to do while they were in a DT like the rest of us? Hmm, somebody who can exploit during DT then... hmmm... 5 isk says this is T21.

Making it publically known even after it's fixed may only encourage people to find similar problems, or give them ideas of the kind of things to look for.

Why the hell couldn't you tell us after the server had been taken down? This is crap it really is. Just say 1 minute into downtime "Downtime will be longer" etc etc, instead of this bull**** about server startup. POOR PR, Very poor. --

I am glad CCP is on top of things. Thanks for fixing that vague thing that you cannot mention that people were exploiting. You could have just used the normal "we had hardware issues" and no one would have been the wiser. Instead you rile everyone up about some exploit you won't tell them about, lol.
I dislike that we do not get compensated for all of these inconviences CCP has been causing. I again lost 12 hrs of training time because the system was down, unexpectedly, and I could not log in to start my new skill before heading to work. Now I am sitting here looking at my character sheet, no blinking light, no skill training.
Originally by: CCP Wrangler We hope you accept our apologies for the vague announcement, and for any inconvenience this extended downtime may have caused you.
I am glad CCP is sorry all the time but how does that help me? Make things right when unexpected things happen and reimburse your players for their loss. Saying sorry doesn't help me get back lost training time. How many times will CCP say sorry for an issue or mistake before they make amends to the playerbase?
I don't accept your apology. Nothing personal but I am a customer and you are a business providing a service. How many times as a customer should I just rollover and accept your apology before I get upset and flip out on the forums? Ooh wait, it just happened.
This is a valid concern, please do not remove the post.

>sigh< So far, we only have solid proof that 0.0 is rigged. So I avoid 0.0 because of that. When we have solid proof that low sec is rigged, I will avoid that too. Ditto highsec.
And finally, Darkfall isn't out yet, and neither is Infinity. Show me a viable alternative to Eve, and I am gone.
But I suspect you are a troll, and no answer will satisfy you.

Nice work guys.
Thanks for letting us know why the outage occurred (and it didn't even affect me cause I was working).
On another note - I, personally, cannot think of any reason not to let us know what the exploit was. Seems a sensible thing to do imo.
I've always found that, in reality, eve is not down that much considering the user load it is under.
In general I find it impressive.
