It was never there...
And when it was there it did not affect anyone...
And all those affected have had effect reversed...
But it was bad enough to extend down time to cover something that was never there...
Truth is, What Pub? I want to know where to go to buy you a drink when I am not really there... granted, I have a huge number of people telling me where to go... but I have been there and the food was better.
Noob in training...

No, only that whatever anyone gained was removed, and it didn't involve anyone losing anything.
Not exactly true. Look at the bottom of the patch notes and you will see that exploits were discussed.
Either way, good job on the catch and keep up the good work.

nah some of us are just curious and find that sort of thing amusing. if people put as much energy into playing inside the rules as they did cheating the system they'd actually wind up further ahead.

Your "policy" seems to be to not reveal anything about anything, it's getting quite annoying now. If your policy is to not talk about exploits even after they have been fixed, then change your policy. All this cloak and dagger stuff annoys the hell out of me.
try investing in ISSO... a lot less info there *rabble*

To everyone that wants to know what the exploit, why do you want to know, what possible good will come from you knowing?

Why dont you just leave people with their opinion. In my opinion i should also treated with a bit more caring, because i pay for the game. And saying sorry all the time doesnt really help to much. I remember times where we were of a bit more worth for CCP when we did get one day of subscription reimbursed for the bloody long Patches and the days after were everything is screwed up. Just an opinion. And for your info ry ry, if they dont listen to the whiners and moaner they will have more than half of EVE-Subscribers lost because there are even points in this game were you would start to whine.

Wrangler, that's simply not true.
In the year I've been playing, I've seen several CCP communications about exploits. Generally they have been one sentence summaries, true. But some information (such as "we fixed an exploit that was resulting in extreme profits in the snowball markets") has frequently been provided.
So, is this a new policy? And if not, why not simply say "We're not going to talk about this one" rather than speak of a policy that isn't consistent with game history? ------------------ Ironfleet.com Proposal: Automated Ore Return Vehicles |

Edited by: Kaynea Mei on 26/04/2007 18:01:10 From patch notes:
Quote: Exploit fixes: The following items were addressed during the patch but not announced in an effort to prevent last minute exploiting. It is no longer possible to see the "Corp Blueprints" tab in the S&I interface without one of the following roles: "Rent Research Slot", "Factory Manager", "Rent Factory Slot", or higher roles as per corporation design.
Logging off immediately after jumping into a warp disruptor bubble no longer grants invulnerability, much to the delight of gate campers everywhere.
Are those the ones or were those there before?

likely a pve exploit where they could make billions of isk.
Look people your going to do something you think might not be intended in game mechanics to make isk don't make so much isk that the total isk in player hands double.

@ the people who are demanding to know what the exploit was. Just my 0.02 Isk but if CCP had said "Sorry folks but the servers too waaaaay too long to start up due to a minor software issue which we have now fixed" then IMHO the whinage would be less. Its wouldn't even be untrue.
@ CCP esp Wrangler most of us are reassured by messages that you fix things we didn't even realise were borked. Even if you dont tell us why it was borked. Thanks. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Time for a new Sig.

It's from the latest patch notes.
*edit The exploit fixed today was different from these.
Exploits (after being fixed) have been announced many times previously. Either through patch notes (see the patch notes from a couple DAYS ago), random dev posts, stickies on the forums, news items etc.
It's a change in policy to NOT announce them after being fixed.

Those were there before, and are basically the real problem.
CCP's stance on this is neither "full disclosure" nor "security by obscurity". Which leaves us a bit hanging in the air, somewhere between "good information policy" and "ashamed of their code's side effects". An position hard to feel comfortable in. The ends of the scale are much easier to arrange oneself with.
