Will this be the end of RA?

And I think this'll hurt the macro morons worse than RA, since the macroers will actually have to use some human interaction and find somewhere to cheeze before they can turn on their auto-farm progs.

I'm interested to see this work out, and i think it will work well for those whose play schedules don't work well into the complexing mold.

While it will, indeed, hurt macro miners (a good thing) It will kill the game for any casual player/industrialist (a bad thing).
Those casual players log on knowing they have a set of places they can go to and be able to rip up some belts to build ships or market the mins. Most casual players of this type aren't going to be happy with having to scan down belts or rats to hunt for the couple hours they might have to play. It's just another time sink in an already time sink intensive game.

as it has just been said, if ccp think it is the sollution to kill macro miners, they are true, but macro miner wont be the only people to suffer, new player wont be able to rat the little npc in empire and mine. furthermore, now if you want to mine half an houre you can, it wont be possible anymore.

We're farming exploration plexes as well. Also if you missed that part:
Quote: In addition to this, weÆre well aware that a lot of investment in territory and infrastructure has been driven by high-end complexes. As a result, all constellations which currently have a complex of difficulty 7/10 and above in them will have a special distribution. This will give a very high chance that a hidden complex, of the type or types already present, will spawn somewhere within that constellation.
So i guess only addition to plex farming team will be ship with probe launcher and set of exploration probes.
Also Rise dude make good point about lack of celestial objects. i'm doomed now. --------------------

Obviously we don't know all the inner workings but at least now when you jump in a system you know that there are x amount of belts and a number or possibilities. If you jump into a system and scan 4-5 unknown sites and each one has the possibility to have multiple gates and no way to directly warp to those ratting or mining or perhaps using MWD it greatly shifts the balance to players that are care bearing. As it is most farmers have cloaks or log as soon as you enter local.

Static content is what kills MMO's when it is all there is to do. EVE's static content is a means to and end. It is the resource players use in order to pvp. And PvP is the point of the game, and it is dynamic and ever-changing.
It's too early to speculate on what could happen. The system could blow, it could take hours to find a roid to mine. It could be easy. The plexes could be bugged, or be crap and not worth doing.
If it all goes south, the 0.0 alliances will have to rely on their moon-mining to support themselves, while mining all the roid spawns they can scan, in order to keep income high enough to sustain their POSes... - - -

Agree, from what I see of the plexes, they're a resource for ISK, not unlike a system's asteroid fields. It just requires a different weapon than a mining laser to harvest it.
On the other hand, the randomness adds a little life to the plexes. Its not like an enemy would really sit on one spot and allow itself to be farmed.

what they can do to hurt macro miners is to make only empire belts hidden so that means low sec and 0.0 still have static but i doubt a macro miner will go to low sec for the chance of getting ganked as for npcs ccp should rename astroid belts to something else and just have them as rat spawns. but for new players only have the races home system have static belts and rat spawn but do something to limit the average player out of it make it a noob only zone in a way so then macro miners cant get to it. as for plexs remove the static one besides cosmos and have them respawn in differnt regions, constellations, and differnt systems |

Removing belts?
It's hard enough finding willing/unwilling combatants as it is. With each patch this game caters more for the solo carebear and the alliance player.

Edited by: Aphotic Raven on 29/04/2007 12:05:05 I dont run plexes... but i dont think that areas that are cash cows now should not continue to be after the removal of static plexes.
The only thing this changes is taking the plexes off the overview... they will still be a lot better in some areas than others... why make it easier on alliances that want to farm them? All of 0.0 is mean and nasty. All of it should be worth having.
If killboards can work out how much isk is lost in ship destructions then im sure the eve version will be able too.. perhaps high intensity areas and those that are NEVER visited should have the best stuff? If a system is a deathtrap filled with wrecked and wounded ships wouldnt it make sense that lots of high end npcs would flock there? its also obviously more risky for those who want to profit from this.
That and backwater, edge of the map, never seen a human type systems should perhaps have good spawn rates on all kinds of shiny things... to spread people out away from station systems a little more.
Oh and of course nerf blobs... that will definately fix everything else.

This is bull to be honest.
If people built up an infrastructure to farm complexes then tough for them. This bit, right here, makes random complexes pointless.
Its not like any other game changes that negatively impact people abusing the 'old' way have been sugar coated before. Why is this being done now?

My only problem with this is the fact that they are slightly restricting play. Before you flame...let me go into detail. Great thing about eve..you do what you want, train what you want, etc. But the way they are going with all this exploration...is going back on that. Basically they are making it so that you need the skills to use the probes to find the sites. As it seems, the ones you can find without the probes will bite. So yeh..CCP Forcing you to train a certain thing for the loose.
Oye, i wonder at which point CCP will stop screwing around with the mechanics.

moving the belts is bull****znt, end of story. Moving the plexes will only serve to cause plexfarmers a minute or two of work before they begin farming. moving the belts is retarded, and just another opportunity for carebears to be cuddly safe in 0.0, giving them considerable extra time to escape while a covops probes down the belt they are using, ect. casual carebears who like to occasionally mine or npc will also be badly hurt by this.

I see this as CCP trying to bring the prices of mins back up. But like they said, it's something they will have to approach slowly and carefully. Hopefully they will not just throw it into the game and say "here ya go, have fun". I can see this being a major turn off for new players. The older players will just have to adapt, which considering the past changes, I don't think will be a problem. The amount of "hidden belts" I've ran into lately are on the rise, granted the rats inside were dismal to say the least, but I guess that's when you ask yourself, will the belts be able to sustain the people who draw the majority of their income from ratting? All I can say is, good thing I trained up for exploration.

as much as i hate to say this, the game NEEDS macro miners (in empire)
the amount of tritanium/pyrite/mex required to build things is insane compared to the amount needed of everything else, the problem is, noone who wants to make money will stay in empire to mine (unless macro'd or newb). meaning that if this system is implemented, ALOT of trit/pyerite/mex will go up in price due to demand, problem is, this will also force the price of other 0.0 minerals (mega/zydrine) down, because there will be less production, and hence less demand. this idea won't change the people who are dedicated 0.0 miners, it will simply add an extra 5-10 min step. what i would like to see, if CCP wants to regulate mineral prices, is set NPC's to buy/sell them (and have these NPC's also work off the market to change thier prices)
Using zydrine as an example:
lets say CCP wants zydrine to remain between 2000 and 3000 per unit.
NPC on the first day of this implementation puts out Buy orders for 2250 and Sell orders for 2750. now, if someone buys off them, it creates a demand, hence sense rises to 2760 and buy raises to 2560 (numbers are simplified ALOT here to show what's happening) the bigger the amount bought, the higher the jump in price, this would force people to buy or sell at these prices or higher, now this is where the capping can come in, the lower cap is 2000, regardless of supply, the lowest it will ever go is 2000, but also, if thier is a massive deficit of supply, then the highest the price will go is 3000. (hence a sell of 3500) as people sell to the NPC's the NPC creates a surplus, now, the NPC basically acts like a supplier, he stockpiles what he gets, and sells. so he can't sell what he doesn't have.
the idea is a little bit out there and alot probably wouldn't like it, but it would allow CCP to at any time cap/change/raise/lower the prices of minerals as they belive needs to be done.
later, Nikerym

Best way to hurt macro-miners is to level the playing field. New modules or something that allow Command or Logistics ships to "mind-control" your alts with various levels of CCP designed internal macros. People would buy more accounts if they could muti-char mine without worry of being banned.
Hiding the belts? Thumbs down.
Removing the static complexs? Undecided.
How about adding a few hunderd different types of sites instead of changing the entire games mechanics?

Edited by: Digital Anarchist on 30/04/2007 02:07:38 I have to agree that cheap low-end minerals are nice and I'd hate to see CPP try to change that.
But the idea of NPC traders to regulate prices is horrible. Don't ruin one major aspect of this game: the free market, just to correct an exploit. So long as the mechanics are not fiddled with too much , it will be a fun game.
My favored approach to dealing with macros is to just let players themselves deal with them. Perhaps a way to wardec individuals, I wonder...

This is a good fix. Its funny how the PVPers call out the carebears for wanting to make isk when it is just them crying about not being able to farm the carebears.
All of 0.0 needs to be kicked up a few notches for reward. Having only a few really good areas in a region is an artificial blob mechanic. People are going to build infrastructure around it and to siege them you will need a blob.
Spreading resources out and enhancing the spread would do more good for piracy. This is also a space game and there is nothing spacey about the current system. Not much difference between WoW and EVE in terms of travelling from point a to point b to the nice farming/ganking zones.

Personally, I think this would be a great change, and I'm looking forward to it. I do disagree with allocating better complexes to areas that currently possess 7/10 or better complex, however, on the grounds that I feel it somewhat contradicts one the purposes of the change.
This being said, I'm fairly certain this doesn't belong in CAOD.

So translation of the blog: - We're now making it extremely difficult to make ISK without being a carebear. - Carebears now get extra fun of locating belts plus the added security of a low chance of ever being caught. - Alliances now have no clear reason for holding particular areas of space. - You now have to scan and sit and wait for timers a lot. --------------

Yeah cos what this game really needs are more gank squads sitting on heavy traffic routes in their curse/myrmidon gank teams.

Pointless if it had been randomly spawning within the same system, yes, but they said constellation. Meaning that farmers would have to scan every system within a half-dozen jumps.

Can we have something to increase the frequency of gangs of 10-15 people and thus make pvp actually fun again please?
I'm all for carebear content and I like the ideas in the post but EvE is a pvp game and I'm not seeing much to improve pvp recently.

Well, we're getting a bit off from the discussion I was hoping for. I guess the bottom line is that there's not really enough information yet to know how radically this change will affect how people claim space. I personally believe that you will see much more condensed areas of space claimed by alliances instead of the gradual spreading out/pet/renter system that exists today.

They said that the complexes will still spawn within in the constellation, so all that infrastructure that went up around em wont be wasted. ---------------------------------------- Friends Forever

Edited by: Cephias Caine on 01/05/2007 12:53:13 ummm.... I don't want to sound like a complete Gomer here, but what about ratters? Loads of 0.0 residents NPCrat for a living, removing the fixed belts will demolish their ability to earn money/get faction loot, etc. Will this not, in turn, increase the prices of faction loot? Might it not also put a serious pinch on some newer players wallets?(ie: those who cannot yet use scan probes) Will this not also force many players OUT of 0.0 in order to find alternate means of income? I am happy to be told I'm wrong if it is followed by a cogent explanation of WHY I am wrong, don't just tell me I'm wrong and flame to no purpose pls. Basically, I am concerned that i will have to go back to Empire and run Mishes 6 hours a night in order to fund my PVP habit on the weekends, and that sounds pretty FUBAR'd
kind Regards, Cephias Caine

I'd be stunned to find that 0.0 suddenly 'evened out' in terms of goodness. Exploration IMO is likely to skew according to truesec - although I do think that 'in general' 0.0 needs to be improved in quite a few areas. It's really silly to see _any_ 0.0 with 'worse than empire' ores.

In fact, quite the opposite. They've already indicated that existing 7/10-10/10 plexes will basically remain in the constellations they're in.
They've also already stated the idea is to have "common" ore belts reached via the local scanner alone. This just puts more emphasis on using exploration tools to find what you would normally just warp to a belt for.
As for roving pvp, you just bring someone along in a covops frig. A decently skilled pilot with a recon launcher is going to scan down a ship in under 30 seconds.
I'm betting rare ores are going to stay in the same systems they already in, just in dynamically spawning fields. "True Sec" will likely remain intact.
Honestly? It's not like rev 2 is going to be released anytime this year anyway. Take a look at their track record... CCP isn't exactly known for timely updates, fixes, or feature implementations.

I would honestly prefer a "mini-plex" for ratting than endlessly drudging through belts getting cruiser spawns, competing with other locals for decent spawns, and having to warp all over the place to salvage. -------------------------------------

personally I think they just need to add more content not make it harder to find whats already there ..
they should double the amount of plexes if you are going to have to hunt for them ...
and the npc spawns should also be increased ...I like the idea of mini plexes or just random spawns were you can warp to a npc station and go for it ...like in a mission
it would be cool to have large random npc spawns like say mini fleets to do battle with .....also what if instead of always destroying npc ships what if you could say capture them also ...double the size of the spawn say 6-10 battleships and 2 support for each battleship and put a fraction commander in the mix that you can capture ...he then could be traded for isk or loot and you get to keep his ship....
just think of all the roaming gangs out looking for these spawns ...that would increase the likelihood of small pvp incounters...
as far as local goes it just acts like radar ...and in a setting like EVE scanners & radar would be on every ship as standard equipment ...if Y's think about it ...
eve needs all type of players carebears & killers if you turn all the carebears into targets then whose going to make all that equipment ya need to pvp ...
I read all these posts about eve being a pvp game game well IMHO eve is an open ended game that has a pvp aspect to it you take away the pve options then you kill eve and right now the pvp sux gate camping & pos warfare blows ...personally any gate camp over 10 min should have a NpC spawn appear ..the more ships ya got the bigger the spawn ....after all NpC are generally pirates so why wouldn't they go after a massed group of there enemy's... that would spice things up...
