What happens to items that you put for sale on the market that dont sell? I had several items time out yesterday and they appeared to have vanished. I thought they might re-appear after the downtime but still no sign of them. Have I lost them for good? is that a bug or a feature?

Search for them using the assets screen, and if you can't find them and you're pretty certain they disappeared, petition it.

If they time out they should reapear in the hangar you placed the sell order in.
Search for them in assets (the tab to the far right) and check your transactions (in Wallet) to make sure someone didn't buy them last minute. If you still can't find them, I say petition it.

Isn't there a time delay? Like you have to wait until the next downtime? Can't recall...

There should be no delay. The delay until downtime is for Contract items.
That said, there have been some minor market issues recently. If you don't get your item immediately, wait until downtime.
Always remember to check your Assets, as well, and always buy from the Market Details screen, never the item list.

No sign of them in assets. Some or all of them items may have been from the corporation hangar, although I put them on the market and they appeared in both my orders list and the corp orders list. They are not in the corp hangar though.

In that case, send a petition to CCP. Might take a while to get an answer though, as I believe this type of problem comes under reimbursement.

1. If the items were sold from YOUR personal hangar, then they will be dropped back in there when if they don't sell. I noticed about a week ago that it took until after a downtime for some of my items to return.
2. If the items were sold with the corp box checked then they will show up as items YOU are selling though when some sell the money will show up in yout transaction list but not in your journal. The money will go to the corp. Also, the unsold items will NOT fall back into any hangar. Instead they fall into the 'Deliveries' area of that station and anyone with the rights to look there in your corp can access them. If you fly to the station that you were selling the items from and click on the deliveries button (bottom RHS) the stuff should be there.

If you look on market and see your order and it says "Expired". They are still on market, and can still be bought.
Till downtime, then they are put back in your hangar.
Many people mistake "Expired" as the order is done. It's not done till downtime.
