Sadly, itGÇÖs an event of owners of T2, T3 and Faction Cruisers with over 500 DPS!
The frigates are fast, but without enough DPS to clear sites fastly, while BC and BS are too slow for fast grind.
We know about GÇ£22.3% (2.3T) of the ISK was generated by 1.4% of characters earning bounties, using SupercarriersGÇ¥, but this looks like GÇ£60% (XX B) of the ISK was generated by 5% of characters earning goodies, using T2, T3 and Faction CruisersGÇ¥.
I got some SKINS and, most importantly, a Rogue Swarm Accelerator, but other new bros are out of the game.
Considering my 250 DPS on my Vexor, I lost like 4 sites by being GÇ£outdpsedGÇ¥. Just in case, after I cleared all drone waves someone jumps to the site and one shot the last boss just to drop the yellow can. I met players which passed the site which was already cleared also.
There should been three types of sites, based on their difficulty and rewards: Ligh, Medium and Heavy.
Just a word, if youGÇÖll see a player on a bad ship clearing the site just leave him. Play in a greedy GÇ£White/YellowGÇ¥ can if both of you cleared all the waves just for whoGÇÖll get the last GÇ£whiteGÇ¥ can, a 50/50% game.

if this is anything like the Guardian's Gala (which it sounds like it is)... after a few days the competition will die down a lot. So will the profits as the market floods, but I was able to run through tons of the gala sites with very little interference after the first few days of the gala.
This will lock the new-bros out of the huge profits that people got in the first hours... but they actually have a shot at those if they're lucking and how else could they have made isk totaling in the billions for very small amounts of work. I think everyone will be able to get whatever skins they want by the time the 2 weeks is up... the think they miss out on is the super huge profits from selling skins to outstanding buy orders for stuff that's not rare anymore due to this event.
I don't think that's a problem. New-bros aren't supposed to rake in a couple of billion isk for a few hours of work. The fact that they could get lucky and still get that is a big plus for them.
Sadly... by the time I'm done with work that's gone for me too... and I'm not a newbro. |

Ran a couple of sites in highsec near Jita uncontested. The sites pile up in highsec as people don't bother much, likely after they found out that the drop rate of boosters in highsec is very low (I got none after 12 sites). In lower sec the drop rate is higher than 50%, and it looks like only the battleship end boss will drop boosters. In highsec the final spawn was always a cruiser.

Its not really random, the better damage dealer will get the final can, and you don't need 500 DPS, i'm sitting in a confessor with half that DPS and still managing to clear the site with stupid ease and i can even contest the locals :P
The only things worth anything from this event are the accelerators, and those only have a shelf life of 16 days as they all expire on the 30th |

I got a booster from a BC. They have lower chance to warp in compared to Cruisers, like 30%. The BS boss, looks like a Dominix, also can warp in, but with a very low chance somewhere below 10%. IDK about BS's loot, because it was in a yellow can :(. |

Nope, IGÇÖm ok, I got a booster for the next 36 hours and a couple of useless SKINS. I just noticed, that with blasters and 5xAcolyte II I got GÇ£outdpsedGÇ¥. This gives no chances for complete new bros. Shure, when IGÇÖll have Mastery IV on my Vex, IGÇÖll be good as others.

Interesting.
Hate to point this out, but if you are getting out-DPSed by the drones maybe you can kill the ninjas instead.
Or leave the boss and wait for the ninja with a gang.
Now as for boss popping, I recall a day when Tengus were all over highsec bullrushing the boss in 4/10s and those sites got restricted. So perhaps a similar mechanic might do but then, it would be more hilarious to see these boss poppers get some more grass-roots justice.
(Were it up to meGäó the highsec and lowsec deadspace pockets these drones are likely in would be like little pockets of nullsec.... something something router disruption something something)

Rogue Swarm is just something CCP has given us to do.
For the last event like this we had, Guardians ?, I tried a few different ships, and kept failing when there were other competing ships. I fitted a Golem to target very fast and apply damage. I only lost 2 out of 33 efforts.
With the Golem targeting fast and one shooting all the ships, all I had to do was get a tractor beam on the last ship, and no one could take it away. I ended up with about 30 skins that I really couldn't sell. So that was a waste of time and effort. It was fun, beating everyone else to the prize, but after a few days was just boring.
Now, the Rogue Swarm. Same thing.
I read where someone said these were easier than the previous one. So, I took out a very large dps heavy missile Tengu. It didn't do so well. I lost three skins to the group that I was competing against. So enough of that, I don't go for luck or chance of winning something.
Refitted the Golem, like I did for the Guardians, and in a group of challengers, I've already won 5/5, and it's already boring. Now I've got 5 skins, that I won't be able to sell, let alone give away because of a flooded market. I don't see the point now.
This is not something for destroyers, or cruisers. A Gila did pretty good. Tengu failed. Alphas will fail. If you're all by yourself, maybe any ship will be able to get thru it. Other than that it will give some, something new to do for a while.

Great post, At least this confirms to me there ARE decent people that play this game as well, some of this voices my concerns as a new player "clearing" a spot 4 times in a row for people to come "steal" my can at the last second when nothing but the last ship spawns. Doesn't really concern me anymore since I decided to not to further participate in this event since there is no way for me to have a dps match against veteran players. (in high sec noobert areas)

The drops are not really worth it. But opening a yellow can lead to some interesting outcome. I suggest you try and see the reaction... That is the point of this event. Fit a PvP ship and kick ass by opening the intruder yellow container, I Garantee lots of fun.

I'm doing it in a harbinger with 700 dps and hyperspatia rigs. I've lost a few sites to undergunned ships stealing my wreck after I sniped their spawn. And lost to a few gnosis's on the alpha shot. It's really a 50/50 toss up when two bcs shoot a cruiser at the same time. If one of us doesn't one hit it, we will do enough damage to guarantee the other guy gets the last hit. Kind of a quickdraw thing.
If you can't get them, position yourself right on the wreck and loot it and gtfo, or go to some quieter areas. Theyre doable though. Much easier for new players than the gala sites.
My main grievance is the Plex drop is a joke. 1 Plex? Just give me a random skin. 1 Plex is useless. If they were gonna bother to add Plex make it 50-100-150-200 and increasing rarity by volume. But don't waste my time on 1 Plex. I've gotten 2 Plex out of 40 sites. How am I supposed to get 500 by the end of the event. Smh.

Heh, that yellow can looks like a kill right scam. IGÇÖm feeling, like half (or maybe 30%) of Hi-Sec players doing this GÇ£time spendingGÇ¥, on their top ships, just for such a pvp scam and not for that loot. You know, there are virtual corporations in NPC corporations. In some cases, the ninja loot will work, but mainly youGÇÖll get instant Disruptor after which half of local cruisers will warp in. Anyway, it not worth to spend time on it. As a result, youGÇÖll just collect a GÇ£Bounty ShamballaGÇ¥ around your neck.
I noticed that some fleet groups patrolling one or two constellations, using a fast frigate. I found a drone beacon in a total unpopulated dead end systemGǪ local is emptyGǪ I began to clear the siteGǪ some tackler entered in the systemGǪ 40 seconds passedGǪ in the system appeared a strategic destroyer and two special cruisers which appeared to my site in 5-10 sec after that. I got it. Drones and missiles arenGÇÖt effective in this event.
IGÇÖm using a GÇ£Armor Tanked and Kitting VexGÇ¥ upset is 3 blasters and a Drone Link Augmentor while downset is Damage Control II + Repairer + 3xDrone Damage Amplifiers II. The midset is completely engineering stuff. The point is I have good skills on ship and weapons for my home world Minmatar stuff and, moreover, high skills for frigates, BC and BS only. Due to this my lvl III Vex is the best Cruiser for low-sec expeditions currently. I can push dps up with skills on blasters and Medium T2 drones, but I miss GÇÿem. Therefore, I not buying Gila also.

ItGÇÖs not competitive as most things in EVE Online. ItGÇÖs like a race between Mini and Bugatti Veyron. IGÇÖm just pointing to respect somebodyGÇÖs deeds and time, at least in High-Sec. I cleared the sites in my Svipul (as usual) with ease and almost no damage to my shields in less than 5min (didn't watch time, but it felt very fast). I'm pretty sure an AC-Thrasher would perform similarly. Using a Cruiser is overkill for these sites, and maybe even makes you slower.
Regarding competition, I had none in highsec yesterday, as said, in the Forge nobody seemed to bother. Can't say how it evolved for today (will be offline for a week). Lowsec was basically fine, I lost two sites to a Vigilant and an Orthrus (won't fight those solo in a Svipul ), but was able to secure 8 sites and got 6 boosters thanks to the better drop rate. No kill scored, sadly. A Caracal and Punisher ran from my little boat.

There are so many ways to play this event. I started out in a Hectate just going into the site, waiting for whoever was there first to finish it, and then jacking the loot. This is in HighSec, and I managed to pick up about 10 accelerators in about 2 hours. You can run the site like a normal person, but you can also run the site and let the Overmind live, and wait for some ninja to come in. In this case the real drop will be the ninjas ship. I've seen several players basically just farming ninja capsuleers to great effect. At the rate people are running these sites, all of the ship skin types in this event should be dirt cheap in a matter of days. Everyone is going to be able to afford a full set of skins now. In terms of ISK payout maybe not so much, but in terms of fun it's pretty good. The sites aren't challenging at all... unless you want them to be. I cleared a site in a few minutes with a Caracal. It was overkill. I barely took any damage and the rogue drones went down in a shot or two. A rouge drone nest is a great place to start a fight, if you want to. Otherwise, as long as you get off of the main trade routes you should be able to do the sites you want without being bothered by others too much.
I think this event would be a great template for CCP's future events. They don't have to all be like this, but it is one of the better one's I've participated in. The centralized events all result in max TiDi with PL blapping everyone at the end. The drone event introduced some actual new gameplay that's accessible to everyone. Good jorb on this one, CCP.

Drones lose too much dps if they can 1-shot target and than travel 10 seconds to the next. Your effective dps is 20-50 in this site, while a 200 dps destroyer can apply all 200.

The stratios, which is a droneboat, is superior to most other ships for this, because you can run around lowsec with an extremely low risk of losing your ship to a camp and farm uncontested swarms to your hearts content. I have found 12 accelerators in 2 trips doing this along with 4 plex and lots of skins.
Also as the value falls out of the market for all the things that drop, and the collectors get all their skins, it willl become trivial for newbeans to get uncontested ones to get their accelerators. Realistically you just need to find one accelerator every 40 hours or so, the rest is gravy.
Lastly, you will also find that the swarms may stack up in some systems, and people won't be contesting you because they won't be there. Figuring out why this is an observable phenomenon will help you in the long term if you ever want to run exploration content, ie learning how to find where signatures and anomolies go is a good thing.

IMHO they need to make this event more like a thunderdrome. Once you start the fight all others are locked out of the arena. That way you dont have some lowlife coming in and taking away what you started working for. (but I showed him I switched safety off and blew him up .. and then of course got ganked by the concords ) but at least no one won that round. |

These sites get farmed so hard, its crazy
I just tried to do a site, in a remote system in Minmatar space. I cleared the first wave, then a Confessor, Ashimu, Gila and a Proteus warped it.
The sites might be for Alphas, but there are hordes of Omegas in blinged ships, doing the sites in like 2 min. I haven't seen a single Alpha (T1) ship in these sites, but all kinds of Omega ships. Even a Lachesis lol |

This in not a troll. Its my general impression of the game event as a relatively new player. So enlighten us as to what those solutions might be? Im curious how you would go about handling the situation as a new omega clone in a gnosis? I myself have no problem handling the swarm alone, the problem is the crusty old timers coming in and taking away the prize. I personally have a set of ethic's that prevent me from 'stealing' the prize from another player. So like I said why dont you enlighten us new players so that we may gain some insight? |

Well, no, that's not really it. It's not about ethics and "the internet", it's about ethics and Eve.
You're assigning an ethical value to a normal facet of gameplay.
If you sat down to play Monopoly and pulled the "Bank Error In Your Favor" card, would you return the $200 to the bank because you've been undeservedly enriched by the bank's error, and it would be unethical for you to keep it?

I feel like you're misunderstanding something about the nature of analogies.
Do you refuse to shoot NPCs? Killing is generally regarded as fairly unethical. Sure, you might be defending yourself in some cases, but you probably didn't HAVE to warp into that pirate anomaly or take that security mission, right?
I mean hell, even these Rogue Swarm drones are likely sentient. I haven't seen them out and about bothering anyone, they're just chilling in their little pocket, not bothering anyone at all and then you roll in and start blowing the place to bits, and for what? A shot at a cheap palette swap and some performance enhancing drugs? And then you want to draw the line at picking up the resulting goods when someone else did a slightly better job at the whole drone-murder thing?

DAY 3
Now itGÇÖs possible to run these drone sites by Alpha Clones and other low skilled capsuleers. Compared to the first day, huh, itGÇÖs much easy now.
You can get a Destroyer lvl 3 or a Cruiser lvl 1-2. With DPS between 90-150 you have enough time to clear the site before somebody will invade your site. Just stay away from the tract. Try Amarrian regions (Genesis, Domain, Tash-Murkon, Devoid), because I heard the Caldari remain very contesting (especially The Forge). The Minmatar regions remain enough GÇ£intensiveGÇ¥ with rng free spots. A frigate can do the job, but it must be well pumped. Anyway, a BS boss youGÇÖll not crack probably, so donGÇÖt waste time on him. BTW, from the BS bosses I got the worst loot in Hi-Sec (no boosters). The best loot was from a cruiser: 1 PLEX, 1Rister SKIN and a Booster.
Interesting, who got a drone BPC and what kind?

I like the contested sites.
This old bitter vet loves swooping in, in the middle, or at the end, of one of these swarms.
Hey, the prize is only for the one who wins it.
I ran a few Guardians and won 31/33 contests. Just about all of them had all types of ships plucking away, pitiful.
This Rogue Swarm is turning out even easier. Of the 6 sites I entered, there were anywhere from 3-5 others. I won 6 times.
(this reply is to fire some of you people up)
I come in with my Golem, 3 Sensor boosters, 2 MGC, and a TP. I one shoot everything. When the boss appears, he's mine. I can target him in about 3 s. Hey, it aint bragging if you can do it. After he's mine, I put a tractor on him and reel him in.
Some guy in a frigate (really a frigate in one of these swarms?), tried to run down and steal the wreck on the tractor beam. I should have let him take it, and as he did I'd pop him before he could escape. (got a warp disrupter too just for that)
Only way to beat this Golem is to bring something that has some alpha. Oh sure, a destroyer can clear a site, if he's the only one there.
You have to set your ship up to target fast, deliver the damage, and take the prize.
Now it would be fun, if a couple of other Golems or equal ships and I, were all to get into one of these swarms, at the same time. Then it would be a real contest. If you can't run with the big dogs, stay on the porch.
-Kirst
PS Maybe I'll kill the boss, and then turn the wreck blue. I wonder how long it will take for anyone to notice. ( oh, now he's just rubbing it in our face.)
Always remember Tovil-Toba, and what was done there.

That is like the opposite of what I am using. Try the Thorax. The Thorax is the perfect T1 Cruiser for this event as it sports the two Boni that are best for the Drone Nests. Tracking speed to hit them and damage bonus for higher chances with the pot shots. And get a Sensor booster! Even if you fly uncontested sites it will help a lot. And webs for better aplication.
TL,dr: Blaster+Web+Sensor Booster = kill Drones faster.

Consider it a sport in which the goal is to shoot that final spawn. If you can't do it alone team up, the game offers you this option. Also, don't expect to win each time.
When it comes about isk everyone becomes suddenly ethical. Remember it is only a game. Perhaps the world is a bad place because people asociate only financial profit with ethics?

Im curious how you would go about handling the situation as a new omega clone in a gnosis? I myself have no problem handling the swarm alone, the problem is the crusty old timers coming in and taking away the prize. I personally have a set of ethic's that prevent me from 'stealing' the prize from another player. So like I said why dont you enlighten us new players so that we may gain some insight?
Except the prize is not yours or others. Everyone can participate in this event, because this event is public, available to everyone. You can't steal something that is public, game decides who did most dps and that person wins the prize, simple as that.
This whole event is not only yours to take the prize, it's for everyone, not just alphas or not just for omegas.
You can kill the whole site, but someone else will get the loot, because it's the last cruiser that matters, and that person who gets the cruiser is not stealing from you, but he won the prize, not you.

Day 5
Somebody still dispute that the Rogue Swarm event is fair and competitive.

It's an event not worth the bother of flying to a nearby waypoint, even...if you spent a few seconds clearing the rounds of pre-attacks, players warp in on the boss and kill steal-then take the reward. Endlessly.
Completely not worth bothering since you're just doing the work for nothing. Pretty boring. |

I'm a new player and I spent the better part of an hour chipping away at drones and losing ships/refitting new ships to go back only to have someone in a better ship swoop in and one shot everything. I do feel kind of left out. Maybe someone will let me sniff their goodies. |

June 27 at 11:00 UTC is the end of the event. You have 2 days to get something.
The Accelerator expires on June 29 at 23:59:59 UTC (the whole week). After June 27, you can buy boosters from the market. In some regions they cost 10-15m ISK currently.
Just fly away from the tract and main region systems. I noticed many uncontested Drone Nests in borderlands systems yesterday, while near main systems they wasnGÇÖt. Try Amarr regions. For example, I did exploration in the Molden Heath yesterday. There is a deep GÇ£greenGÇ¥ system Katteguad where I noticed like 12 Rogue Swarm Nests in an empty system. There are many other systems closer to Imperial lands. Compared to the first two days itGÇÖs very easy now.

The Rogue Swarm Nests works like Combat Anomalies and Signatures (including WH) GÇô if youGÇÖll close it in this system another one will automatically appear in a RNG system of Constellation or Region. So, if many of them will be closed in main systems, through statistical RNG distribution more and more of them will stack at some inactive systems. |

Whilst I appreciate your views, one must consider this is a contest, If one, for example, pits preschool children against professional footballers, one would expect them to score far less than those who have trained for years. There are no "Pity" wins in EVE. No one runs these sites to lose.
I do agree with you however, There would be value, for some sites to be T1 (no pirate or faction ships) only. Whilst better players will still eat your lunch most of the time, at least the playing field would be more even, and maybe younger players will learn to fly ships that could actually win a contest (ps your Vexor is a bad choice for contesting sites, maybe try the thorax as a start?) |
