I have a very simple question.
Why were none of the existing "issues" on the known issues page resolved in this patch?

Originally by: Damon Ra I have a very simple question.

Because the fixes have been made in the code branch used for Revelations 2 and its not safe to try and deploy them in the current TQ code branch.

Edited by: Damon Ra on 24/05/2007 15:02:47 Thank you very much..
So this then begs the question:
When can we expect Revelations 2?
I am not looking for a firm target date, but a ballpark. Some of the bugs that keep getting ignored personally have me at wits end, and I would like to make an informed decision in regard to my subscriptions. |

Soon(tm), when used by CCP officials, is widely known to mean:
"Don't worry, we're working on it, really. We want to play with it as much as you do. But if something more important comes up first, QA doesn't cut us some slack or Oveur treats everyone to bree again, it might get delayed some. And oh, if you find some more bugs, we'll have to fix those. And exploits. Need to fix exploits first."
Sound familiar? If you're working in the software business, you're lucky if it does, because usually it's even worse, far worse. Face it, building a game is just work, a business like any other, just more fun than most. Now, there's something to be said for not announcing stuff at all, if you really don't know when it's done. But then again, -we- do keep asking for little hints and promises.
Considering the length of my post sofar, be glad that CCP adopted the use of Soon(tm), instead of pasting in some meaningless lengthy response every single time you ask "When?".
Greetings, Grismar.

This answer simply means "as soon as we can, maybe next week, probably in 2 months, but it could also be 6 months."

Deployment during summer doesn't mean start of summer, just at some point before the summer ends, I'd say at some point during Q2 and Q3.

Any fixes to the drone regions, will we also have to wait for Rev 2? Waiting 6 months now on fixing of broken regions (exploration, roids)...

Could you narrow the Summer time frame a little, summer 2007 or summer 2008?
Are we talking New Zealand summer or European Summer?
Forgive me for being a tad cynical but you have missed every major expansion by a whole season or two in the past so not expecting Rev 2 to fair any better.

Exploits will be added to the patch notes in a few minutes.
As for the Revelations 2 deployment, Grismar's post is not that far off the mark. Wrangler stated Rev2 would be deployed before the end of summer. We would like to be more specific than that, but we need room to wiggle if we encounter difficulties, testing takes longer than expected, a critical defect is found and resolution takes longer than expected, Marketing wants to launch a campaign that pushes the date back by a couple weeks, etc.
When we have the green light to make the deployment announcement, believe me, we will make it ASAP.

I project the Rev 2 deployment on 4 Sep 2007, based upon a simple combination of logic and pessimism.
You just take everything that the Devs have stated and take into account standard Icelandic holiday schedules. So, it was stated Q2 or Q3 (Apr-Jun, Jul-Sep). it was also stated the deployment would be before the end of summer (Jun-Aug). Icelandic holiday schedule generally involves take a month of vacation in the summer (lose a month of team effort because someone is on vacation).
Keep in mind it will be released and have been patched at least twice before Fanfest. They will want it working nicely when their customers are on their front doorstep.
Therefore, they will miss summer because of vacation time; but will beat the Devs with whatever is handy to get it out first week in September. The first tuesday is the 4th.
If one the off chance that I am actually right about the date I would like a nice cardboard cookie, which will reflect the amount of effort I put into coming up with this date.

I am sorry but you are way too optimistic. We now hear the time frame is late summer, late summer is end of September. So pencil in 27th September. However a critcal defect will be found and it will delayed a week.
I figure 2nd October and it will be down 24hrs so we get to play around 4pm on the 3rd October. The first bug fix patch around 18.45 on the 3rd October and the 2nd bug fix patch the following day in an extended down time. Eve will be playable around 15.27 on the 4th October.
Remember to set a long skill training until the 7th or 8th October.

If the important fixes are in a different code branch, that raises another question. Does that mean the issues that were fixed in this branch will be reintroduced when Rev 2 is deployed? I remember a dev posting a blog about how the code branches worked with a graphic that basically explained why old bugs come back. People working on a new branch while other people are fixing a different one. It's like in the movies when someone goes back in time and screws up the timeline by shooting their own father before they are born. This seems like a horrible way to do things...

Yes. I am running a server-grade Dual Core Xeon. Before the patch, even with six Eve windows running, CPU usage was in the 70-80% range, bumpy and constantly varying. I checked just now and CPU usage is almost a flat 100% in both cores.

Two issues I was having, was purchasing a drake, insted of taking my money and giving me a drake, it was adding a buy order for the station...but still not taking my money.
Second issue, 5 second spurts of lag, ever 10 seconds. Man that was bad. Though running vista home premium, athlon 64 single core, 2gb ram, I was not having the 100% CPU usage issue.

Still dont see the reason (after reading the patch notes) why an complete extra cluster reboot was in place during your called out periods which turned out to be just plain playing hours on your schedule (what the **** did you ppl do during the called out and extra called and hmm even extra called out hours?......if it aint broke!!! don;t try to fix/nerf it! if it;s broke call the hours needed to fix it....and fix it during that hours!! So plz pay back all paying users for the month may 2007 and fix what you need and for (any god you think off) periode fix it so it's fixed for atleast the periode you ppl ask for extra DT if you can't fix it during that periode atleast inform your paying customers (hmm isn;t that all non noobs......yes) what the hell is going on to give they feeling atleast you care about the ones paying your fun time (aka work for the serious ppl)

This your first patch day, Quiomi? 'Cause this wasn't anything at all compared to many patches.
No, they don't reimburse for extended downtimes or reboots. We're all assumed to have read the EULA which specifies that there may be unanticipated or unscheduled outages or other interruptions of normal gameplay.
I know how addictive Eve is, left several times and keep coming back for another hit myself, but please remember that Eve is built on an old platform and TQ is under pressures that CCP hadn't anticipated back in the day, so patches and upgrades give a bit of indigestion to the game. Try my game plan for patch day: Kick back, download the mp3s of the soundtrack and play the Eve-Offline flash game (search for the appropriate threads in the box on the right-hand sidebar) and shoot some asteroids with a Minmatar shuttle with "Tomorrow's Neverending Yesterday" playing on iTunes.
After putting up with computer upgrades at my state's Bureau of Motor Vehicles that resulted in statements like "We won't know how many records we lost until we have a full year's cycle of registrations processed next summer," I am more than happy to put up with delays on patch day like this.
By the way, what delay was involved? Normal DT for me is 7am -8am, this was supposed to take 3 hours so it would be about 10 am. I patched at about 10:30 (got up late) and when I got home after work (about 10pm) Eve was up and running just fine. I just asked my corp, nobody has reported any problems. From what I can see, smooth as silk for patch day. And where do you get the +4 days extra? Or are you demanding reimbursement for previous patch days?

So deploy the patch and accept that the server is down? Would you accept that the VISA authorization server is down? I wouldn't! While I know that people complain about unexpected outages during any upgrade cycle, when you have a large customer base, you do EVERYTHING possible to mitigate the possibility of a system-wide outage. A well run operation would not experience this type of disruption on such a regular basis. In my 6 months here I have endured this type of outage on a semi-regular basis. The way it gets fixed is for the customers to complain and demand a higher level of service. So if people are satisfied with the status-quo then let them stay quiet, otherwise voice your opinion and hopefully these issues will be addressed. While the short-term economics may not validate an increased amount of spending on code/hardware, the long term benefits are a more satisfied customer which will equal greater profits in the long-term.

Why is it appling this patch takes being in an "Administraor" account?
I appled this in my limited user account with full access to the EVE Folder but the update failed and then corrupted game files and i had to reinstall?
Do you even test non-Admin account install with access to the files?

Amazing. I'm sure religious slurs are a great aid to the developers trying to continually improve the game for you.
ON TOPIC: I've also noticed additional overhead since the patch. Is this an "issue" or a side effect of Eve Voice that we should expect going forward?

Yeah, I'm also on a trial account. From what I've seen its a great game (WHEN THE DAMN GAME WORKS). But I refuse to pay a monthly subscription to a game whos servers, in the 3 days since I D/Led the trial been down for me more than its been up. I realize theres a new patch, but for me, all it did was instead of booting me to desktop every 5 minutes, is now I cant even connect and it says "starting up 0 secs" for well over 10 minutes now.
Also, some of the "devs" here seem just A LITTLE LESS THAN PROFESSIONAL. Both in getting their product to work and their replies I've seen in these forums.
Then theres this little scandal I'm hearing about with one of the Devs "hacking" the game to give him and his buddies cool stuff.
Doesnt sound like a company I'd trust with a credit card number even if their product DID work.
-Thanks, it could have been really fun.

I have always been against Eve-voice knowing that with 600ppl in Jita talking, wow man now thats lag itself, its not so bad with a team of 20 playing BF2141 or simillar but at hand and on topic why intergrade it into eve itself it should be a total seperate program so then it doesnt effect people who dont want it or use other means like TS or Vent. i cant stress enough about this it should of had a Poll or a vote or something like that and with customers (players) joining all the time there will be alot more $$$$ (hundreds of thousands) or more spent to keep up the demand with out taking a huge lag issue into account. and please dont delete this post as im sure people want and need to know exactly what how when and why situations arise.

Well for alot of the things youve mentioned about scandals and a professional attitude I can offer no information other than it probably in the cases of the scandal a crude attempt at dirtying CCP's credability. As for the drops, e that it was due to the fact its a sceduled downtime. Compared to alot of other games Ive played I'd be glad to give up a day or two. Nihnjha try n stick with it, just wait for the storm cloud to blow over :)

Bla-bla-bla
It funny how some ppls for 14 euro per month demand superior tech support and operative , just momentaly. Even WoW and EQ2 don't have such support and time to time they have same problems too.
I hope that ppls fix out all things soon and we play again and without problem. I preffer to wait and play something else. It save brain from stress... ;) =========================== Between Light and Darkness, Road Difficult and Hard. Are able you pass it to the end?!? --- àOnly who walk on Path can reach it endà |

That is why I pay with check it may take longer but I know that they don't have a hand in my savings account.
Anyways after working five hours at Fed Ex training someone I want to come home play EVE for a little bit but what do I get Tranquility status unknown and also I needed to change a skill so it can be trained.
Well I can't do that now because the server is down here is an update suggestion lets make were we can change the skill that we want to train from our Character section on this site.

Well, I'm tired of trying to log in, so I guess I'll go to bed. As a result of this server failure/patch fiasco, I'm going to be down over 24 hours of training time. I request that I be reimbursed for this by being assigned an equivalent value of training points to be allocated by me.

Unfortunately, that's not gonna happen. They said set a long skill, and they meant it. Unfortunate, but them are the breaks (I'm feeling the pain too, you aren't alone) |

I have separate visa card to pay online games, and i go to bank every time i need pay, it not far from home, and put monney on card. Or just hold on card some money to pay 2-3 month of game. It safe and even some thing happend it not so bad to loose $15-$30 than $100 or even more. Debit Visa cost me $10 per year...

.. >=) sure .. its a drag when you get some free real life time and want to fly around in space, and the game is not playing well or at all. there was a time i recall when "set a long skill" meant what it implied. overall i would imagine most of the problems in game are dealt with as well as possible.. could any imagine a reason to sandbag?? of course where i am from some stuff goes well and some stuff goes poorly. i can only imagine what it must be like in the perfect world the folks who have complained in this thread must exist. i reckon if i were that cool i would be just as intolerant .

Well, this is MY first post ever.
I started the freebee thing almost a week ago, Friday? Something like that. And so far I'm loving the game. Yea, today has been a rollercoaster - but that's ok, I went ahead and converted the account to paying (because I wanted to initiate a courier mission and I knew that I was going to sign up anyways).. and even with the crazy day - I'm not concerned, the game is a lot of fun and I'm sure I'll get my money's worth.

Well just for the record. I own a 200 slot ventrilo and is never seems to lag at all. I'm sure thats really not the problem with the lag.
I enjoy in-game communication because it can add a little bit of tolerence to the cold space. You can turn it off and on and use it to advantage if you wanted. So stop knocking the invention.

It's possibly me being completely thick [more like, 'probable' - Ed.], or the patch isn't available for download?
I'm still getting the same incompatible release message

Overview bug still apparent, In-station names not updating on login, showing as neutral , local not updating. if anything its worse now.
2nd bug i noticed since patch , Caldari ships once again align off centre when appearing after jumping through a gate, this was fixed but seems this patch borked that one up too.

I'm a new subscriber, so this is my first patch for EVE.
Are all patches like this? i.e. The patch is scheduled, delayed twice, finally available and upon 50,000 subscribers downloading and playing with the new code, the server crashes multiple times, with wacky hijinks like being warped 3 systems away, being unable to dock, being shot at by invisible 'rats, etc...
This isn't really a complaint, I'm just trying to get a feel for what I should do when the next patch comes out: set a week-long skill training and go on vacation, or wait a couple hours and try again. I realize that in order for EVE to improve, patches are necessary and good things to have. -- Tequila is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. |

Could you narrow the Summer time frame a little, summer 2007 or summer 2008?
Are we talking New Zealand summer or European Summer?
Forgive me for being a tad cynical but you have missed every major expansion by a whole season or two in the past so not expecting Rev 2 to fair any better.
I can almost promise you it's this century.. maybe.. smart alec.
Quote: "...time has no meaning whatsoever to someone who will reliably get home from work, and spend the next six hours telling his or her spouse ôfive more minutes, honey.ö The passage of time is meaningless to someone who can spend six hours on a raid without moving.
IÆm exaggerating. Time has meaning. ItÆs just that all times are ôthree weeks.ö
When you tell an MMO customer ôsoon,ö it better happen within three weeks. If you say, ôin the future,ö and it hasnÆt happened in three weeks, heÆs going to raise hell on a message board about your broken promises. If you say, ôsomeday,ö hoping to put an argument to bed without killing it completely, the next argument will start in three weeks. Ditto ôeventually,ö ôwe hope,ö ônot now,ö and ôASAP.ö Go ahead. Wait a few weeks for the observer effect from this post to die down, and time it yourselves.
Now, compound all of the challenges mentioned above endemic to the internet gaming industry by the fact that most of us are, ourselves, MMO customers with a three week attention span.
No wonder we have trouble with time."

CCP scores a 1-10 for this patch. Poor delivery, poor reliability, poor customer service informing the player base about what happened.
Seriously guys, do you even test your code before it goes live? Fire your QA dept. they suck.
