Edited by: Ginlol on 01/06/2007 14:30:34 I've read about this and tried to ask about it once already but was met with abject stupidity.
Has there been any recent news on the graphics update? Some of the screenshots look great:

Yeah I saw that. We're apparently on the only board on the internet that doesn't want you posting in the original topic thread.
I've recently come back to EVE and I'd like to hear the status on this as well, please.

AFAIK the difference between the DX9 and DX10 clients will be very minimal, a few new effects, mostly compatibility for Vista.

I think there were some small texture updates and engine tweaking done a while back. This is not the major update that is being talked about though, this is just patch work. The coming Trinity engine update is a complete replacement that is still being developed and will come in two parts. One for DX9 and one for DX10 with all the bells and whistles that DX9 can't do. ------

Vista is so slow and bloated when it comes to games; and that's DX9 ones. It's like watching a fat lady run through a candy store (ie; it goes sloooowwwww). I haven't actually seen any DX10 graphics running on Vista yet so it'll be interesting to see.

Actually vista plays games quite happily, its poor driver support that made them run slower. Now with a driver update they run at XP performance.

I remember the same thing said about every Windows operating system since '98. The only one with true merit was Windows ME*.
Give it time and I'm sure people will start saying to upgrade to Vista. However, truth-be-told, there IS indeed a drawback to being an early adopter.
* - True Merit meaning it deserved to burn in you-know-where.

I'm of the opinion that we should only be calling what we see. At the moment, Vista is bloated, slow, buggy, lingering driver issues, and generally more hassle to use than XP, not to mention currently retailing at hte highest price that it ever will, being new. So at the moment I would dissuade anyone from upgrading to it.
If this changes in the near future, then I'll happily change my verdict. But it's only guess work as to whether or not it will improve- most OS's did, but some didn't. Best to just wait it out and see what happens. --------

As long as they fix the problem with the edge of some planets breaking up in their texture and being able to see the rings of others through the planet then i'll be happy. I run a Radeon X1950 XTX and i've tried all the settings under the sun but i still get the same glitches.

I hate the new look of those ships, the Augoror and Inquisitor =/ Here's a thread I put up about the whole thing a while back
Not to mention they're completely changing the shape of the models, and those panels gaps! For crying out loud you could drive a car those the gaps in the armour =/

This is something that I have trouble with as well. I notice that on the test server, this seems to be completely fixed.
And suns work too! (\o/)
And the map is smoother.

Agreed totally. It likely will change, and I've dissuaded people from buying it, NOT because of the performance (as barring Lost Planet, all my DirectX stuff is running smooth, though you NEED a DirectX 10 card) but because of the price point needed to get that performance.
Here's hoping Microsoft lowers the price more as it becomes more mainstreamed.
Wasn't saying you're wrong, as you are 100% correct. It's just the vicious cycle of operating systems.
(For those that have Vista like myself, turn off ALL the goodies and things run much better ^^)

I have Vista and a 1950XTX and have had no problems running EVE at all. It run fast and smooth with all setting maxed and at max resolution. Then again I haven't had many problems with Vista it's self either.

Vista is so fast and slipstreamed when it comes to games; and thats DX9 ones. It's like watching eve run at between 25-50 fps faster than on xp on my rig (ie; it goes real faaaaaaaaaaaaaast). i also havent seen DX10 graphics running on vista yet though :(
Vista is best m$ os ive used stick dvd in wait 20 minutes to install and voila EVERYTHING on my pc ran flawlessly never ever happened before when installing previous os's. Updated graphic card drivers to latest ones and it flies.

nice to see some buying into the microshaft line hook line and sinker at lest.
eve should run like blazes on any pc that can handle vista at all. the engine should run like blazes on any pc decent enough to run quake 3 at a halfway decent framerate for that matter. it's not that demanding a game to run...
but xp vs vista assuming you have decent drivers for both xp will run any game faster than vista, because vista takes up more resources. run a demanding game on xp and vista is probably a better benchmark of this than eve that is going to run at 100fps on a variey of decent pcs.

The planet ring issue seems to pop up when the planet's rings are both in front of and behind the planet at the same time. Some higher angle views that only have the rings in the behind the planet work fine.
Its like the system can't decide on how to layer the image.

i have vista ultimate 64 and i used xp pro before that on this same rig and i get better scores in 3dmark06 on vista and eve actually gets better fps as high as 150 in station and normally around 100 outside (and yes on both all my drivers are checked at the very worst weekly)

I also get better performance out of Vista. Aside from slight Raid driver issues on install it's been amazingly pain free.
It is a bit of a resource hog, so don't attempt to run unless you have a minimum of 2 gigs of memory.
After talking to several people, results seem to vary depending on what version is being used. Business seems to run much better then the Home Premium version. All the media center stuff running in the background slows it way down.

/me looks at his 8800GTX
well i did see the pretty DX10 graphics with the Nvidia DX10 demo for all of about 10 seconds before my PSU exploded :)
Very pretty and they are going to be something worth waiting for and you'll end up being forced to upgrade eventually.
Vista isn't bloated when running games aslong as you have a decent ammount of RAM, trust me 1GB is not enough you need atleast 2GB or maybe try4GB like me ^^ then it runs super fast with no bloat issues. ---------

Well Vista runs slowly with 1GB and 2GB isn't that expensive these days and with 4GB it flies nicely ---------

That may be so, but that doesn't make it any less bloated. If you enjoy wasting a gig of ram for so vista can do nothing at all with it, I guess it's good... I'd rather use that gig for... Anything else?

Hmm... Vista only uses about 300-400MB for me (that's without Aero). Even with EVE open on top of a bunch of Firefox Tabs, I never go about 1GB... so my other 1GB generally feels lonely.
