Thanks, it's nice to know that some of these issues are being resolved soon. However I'd be grateful if you could address the three major problems:
1: Drones being set to engage a distant target and changing to a different target halfway there.
2: Drones *still* getting stuck on each other while returning to drone bay.
3: Drones just stitting at 1600m when you're trying to get them to come back to the drone bay.

Yes this is on Tranquilty, Perhaps they are turning their MWDs on but then the MWD isn't working well, as all the utility drones are Waay slower then then their non utility counterparts (and I can demonstrate this at will)as well as larger drones. I will file a Bug report.

5 Light NOS Drones attacking Blackbird with no cap enhancments.didn't do anything to the Cap. (Nice visual effect but My cap didn't budge)

There is also the fact that you can't jam them.
Fair enough (Sucks but OK will that be changed?)

As for Randomly attacking Targets once the primary is down, I have noticed that the drones tend to act like NPC's attacking the Weakest Target (or splitting off to attack multiple Weak targets in range but never automatically attacking the strongest target...this sounds like it is intentional)
I remember reporting this some time ago but I'm afraid I haven't really followed up on it so I'm not really sure if this has been fixed or not and I haven't really been npc-ing on the test server but I'll have a look.
Be nice to Redundancy
Thanks for the Response (My first response from a Dev...cool)

I'd still like some news as to whether the Drone UI is getting an overhaul any time soon. At the very least, given a facelift the same way the gang overview was (they were both the same before, now the gang one has been "fixed"). Not to mention the fact that on any relatively low resolution monitor (I'm running at 1280 x 1024) the overview is too crowded to have both gangs AND drones in use at the same time. --------

Utility Drones (TP SD and ECM Drones Light Med and Heavy) do not Turn on their MWDs when returning to the Ship. It pretty sad when an Ogre 1 beats a TP 300 back to the ship from 46km.

I just verified that on Sisi. I didn't test all drone types but at least the medium ECM drones do switch on their MWD when returning to the ship, where they didn't before.

My drones seem to target at random even before the primary is down. Seems like this happens most often at the top of my drone range.
Also, another nice issue to address would be drones that refuse to drone bay / be scooped to drone bay and sit following the back of the ship until you either blow them up or give up and warp away.

Unfortunately, as of last play time with my Dominix, my drones still enjoy a good humping 100 meters out of range when they've been recalled. --------

The problem with drones is that its very often hard to reproduce the bugs. The most common bug I get myself is that they dont attack the same target when told to do so. It only happens now and then, but often enough for me to experience it every time I do a mission.
Its difficult to make a good bug report since its not really possible to follow steps to reproduce it. Maybe it has to do with network latency.
If you really want to solve the bug, why not have a Fix the Drone Bug day on the test server? The best bug reports would get decent stuff on TQ as rewards. But you guys are reluctant to do that it seems... ive suggested it before (giving rewards for active bug hunting on your free time), but you guys never tried it.

My biggest issue is that LIGHT combat drones (especially warriors) will get stuck on eachother and just kind of frozen in space. It happens when you launch 5 drones on a fast target (inty/vaga/etc) and they MWD towards you and then away from you. The drones will spread out a bit to get into attack range, but then when the target zooms off they appear to all try to pass through the same point and get stuck on eachother. They will literally just sit there ramming into eachother with no noticable effect until you fly right up to them and have them orbit/return. BTW, once they're stuck you can't issue any new commands to them. Your signature was inappropriate, email [email protected] to find out why (don't forget to include a link to it) -Sahwoolo |

Quick Update...
Tested again in TQ.. MWDs on the TP 300 DOES work when going to engage the target. Its only on the Return trip to the Drone bay that it is sloooooow. Hammerheads first, Ogre 2nd, TP-300 last (by a long shot) I included a series of Screenshots in the Bug report.

I did a lot of missions with my Myrmidon using Medium drones, and never once had the problem of them not returning to drone bay if asked. However, I did notice some weirdness when using Lights or a mix of Lights/Mediums - I can't remember the exact issue but they either got stuck on each other or they didn't return to drone bay and floated just outside scoop range.
The other problem of the drones randomly going off to attack another target happened to me occasionally, but I wouldn't be able to reproduce it.
Also Drones (all as far as I can tell) do not automatically use their MWD when returning to the ship once they have completed their task - they WILL use it if specifically told to "return and orbit", but otherwise they will just use their normal engine speed to travel back to you. __________ If you think the game is rigged, why are you still playing? |

Thats might be by design actually, since they get a larger sig radius when MWD'ing and take more damage.

hey hey hey! Way nice to see something is finally stirring on this matter.
See, for me it seem the problems really kicks off when having em little buggers on extended reach, with Drone Link Augmentor I's equipped.
I use 3x of em on me Domi running missions.
They are giving me good laughs though, not only greif. How about when you see a drone over at a target deciding to shuv off to another on the oposite side of the grid and then seeing another drone on the former drones opposite side of the grid deciding to do the same. Then they meet in the middle - it s so damn cute.
1) They fail to mwd back to ship.
2) They still get stuck on eachother, hardly moving.
3) They still wont dock, sitting at 1500 and some meters forcing you to stop or turn your ship around to scoop them - bloody likely in a fight right?
4) The drone UI seem to be just another refined form of mental torture, bug ridden as well, with drone groups n such. Spiff it up and reduce the number of mous clicks needed to get them deployed and on target with atleast 50%.
and so on and so forth.
It would also be interesting to hear CCP s stance on wether drones are to be considerered weapons in their own right or just as ammunition, seeing as they are expendable during fights, which turrents and bays curently arent. Not until subsystem targetting atleast.
Can I consider drones to be my primary weapon or just a support kinda thing secondary thingamajingy and.
Where on CCP s priority list does drones reside?
Are they something that CCP would like to remove instead of develop?
I got so much to ask about drones really this post is becommin incoherent so I better stop now.
I d be glad if one of the questions eceived an asnwer but absolutely exhilarated if more was adresed.
Cheers and way to go!

Finally seems drones are getting some love...now for my 2 cents...
Reading through this post, every issue i see reported, i have also had these issues. Only ones i havnt is on drones i dont really use (ECM Etc.). These who respond saying 'that doesnt happen' or 'its on your end' are completely wrong, or dont use drones as a primary weapon.
The main issue I also have is the same as everyone else. When i tell the drones to engage a target, doesnt matter what type of drone, about 80% of the time 4/5 drones will attack the target. The other 1 will choose something random to go attack. the other 20% of the time 2 or more of the drones will go attack random targets. What i end up having to do is send 'engage target' multiple times, just to be safe.
The other issue of MWD not working is not fun either. When your waiting for drones to come back going at combat speed, it takes a while, and ya have to approach. They'll MWD out to the target, but not come back.
Stopping just outside of the 'scoop' range is a really annoying one. Because they sit there, and stare at you like a lost puppy. They wont go away, but they want you to be all lovey dovey and come pick them up, pat them on the head and say 'good boy'. For me that one usually happens when 2 drones are hung up on each other and cant seperate. Bascially 2 'x's on top of one another showing where the drones are.
In my carrier I've noticed the MWD very acutely on the fighters. They MWD out to the target, engage, kill then if there are no more targets, treturn to the ship very slowly. I watched their distance and saw they were going maybe 300m/s. What i end up doing is locking a wreck thats close by, and telling them to engage it. At that point the MWD activates and they come flying.
Hopefully this input helps CCP to get these issues taken care of. Its realy annoying when your main weapon system is malfunctioning.

Yesterday in a roaming op that happened to me at least five times when I order scope drones and one or more decide to disobey and sit outside range. Then I had to approach them and try again.
It was only luck that I didn't had to warp out and lose any to this bug.

It mostly happens with light drones, meds and heavies work just fine in this regard.
However, Heavy drones have an easily reproduce able bug.
Step 1: fit a dominix with drone range mods Step 2: make sure that there are several NPC targets in the same grid Step 3: deploy heavy drones and send them to attack something over 50kms away. Step 4: watch as they forgot who they are supposed to attack mid way and just go for another target without even touching the first one.
This happens with me every single time when I send the drones to a target that is out of normal drone control range BUT in range with drone range modules. Have to spam the attack target command to keep them on target.

The major problem I have with my drones (which I dearly love) is that their default behavior is to scatter in all directions and attack targets randomly. First of all, this is almost never what the Drone Master is going to want, so I'd say it's a bad default. Second, there is probably no one set of default behaviors that's going to please everyone, or that's suitable for all occasions. The fix for this is to allow players to choose from among a basic set of drone behaviors, and make it the default. These behaviors could be applied to all drones in the drone bay or to sets of drones with a context menu. Some reasonable options that occur to me are:
- Always attack the closest ship (to the drone) by default - Always attack the closest ship (to the parent ship) - Always attack the ship that is doing the most severe damage to the parent ship - Always attack the ship (closest if multiple) that is using a webber or jammer on parent ship - Always attack the ship my guns are firing on
I think the default drone behavior should always be to stick together as a pack. I don't know why anyone would want to do it differently (the option to direct specific drones to attack specific targets is always there, of course). Having said that, there's probably someone who really wants their drones to fly off in random directions and attack whatever seems tastiest to them. So perhaps there ought to be a "fight as pack" or "scatter" option for the drones.
I'd also like to be able to set the drones to automatically flee back to the drone bay when the've sustained a certain (user specifiable) percentage of damage.
Well, that's what would make me happy, at any rate.

As the drones are my only weapon of choice in a dominix these problems people have reported are very frequent. Ogre's losing the lock after traveling aprox. 30km is reproducible.
I'd wish there would be a setting that would enable you to select what type of ships the drone should attack. i.e. attack only frigates. Or cruiser. Or battleships. Then again this might give the drones too much autonomy and the player could go AFK if in a strong tank. -------------------------------------------------

FIGHTERS a Carrie and Mothership ONLY TRUE weapon system do now use their Microwarpdrive (MWD) when they are told to return and orbit the carrier , or when they are told to return to the drone bay .
This bug is extremly stupid as a 4 Smart Bombs can defang a carrier simply because the fighters continiue the attack for 1 or 2 cycles of their guns.
Also sometimes several fighters tand to stay just outside of scoop range and aproach at sily speed (very very slow) if you are using the engines of your carrier

Those changes would definitely make drones much easier to use. As a drone pilot, I don't think they should really be made that much easier to use - the price you pay for having drones out there should be an increased amount of management.
That said, it would be nice to either have them not aggro the whole room so often in a mission, or have missions reduce their reliance on overwhelming numbers that require careful aggro management. One of the biggest reasons I stopped flying missions was that my million SP in drones became utterly worthless in level 4 missions. Worse than worthless, in fact - attempting to use drones got me killed when I went solo, and made me a liability to the team in group efforts.
