I don't see a news thread about it, so let me be the first to break the news...
Seems the EON Awards has been canceled. I'm quite disappointed about this. Was really looking forward to getting dressed up and have a geeky night out :(

Nice one. 500 quid down the pan.
Veto Corp alone have guys flying in from Iceland, Ireland, people driving 300 miles across the country and people taking the train.
It's been a nightmare to organize, and when we finally get it done this happens.
I can't imagine how much some people have gone through organising getting groups from thousand man alliances together to do this.
Massively dissapointing to be honest.

One would have thought that with all the bad press CCP have received of late that they would have made an extra effort to make sure this happened (...and possibly make an announcement of how they'd had to take a hit).
Cancelling when people havelr aeady booked flights/hotels is completely inconsiderate of the player base that doesn't live in London (i.e. the majority).

I'm not one for having a go at CCP or MMM because best part of the time they do a kick ass job, but this is beyond a joke.
The most annoying thing for me in this to be honest is that the announcement was made on the OFFICIAL GAME FORUMS by a PLAYER, not a member of CCP or MMM.
There's no news announcement, no sticky thread by someone from CCP with confirmation and instruction how to get a refund, nothing.
Had maruud not posted, a fair few people might not have noticed for a couple of days and possibly missed out on avoiding cancellation fees.
This comes after the final voting was postponed for more than a week without anyone even posting regarding what or why.
Communication between CCP and the playerbase has been completely shocking over the last couple of months.

That EON announcement doesn't even mention the date of the cancellation. It should really start "city, date:" or similar.
The 7th July is the 2nd anniversary of the London bombings as well by the way. Not sure what's going on in terms of rememberance.
Amazed it has only been mentioned so close to the time.

I know, but with any luck, you guys should be able to cancel your flights and get your money back. Its just the effort to organize everything that goes to waste for the people who have been looking forward to this.

Edited by: Takahashi Arran on 08/06/2007 18:18:39 oh dear that majorly sucks. I was going to go buy a ticket tonight - luckily i live a bus journey away not a flight but its still lame.
The ticket price was probably also to blame though I imagine it scared alot of people off.
Still my advice to all those who bought flights ect is not to let it go to waste if you can;t get refunds but to instead go to london and have a night out with a load of other eve players.
It might not be the awards but I still think a big party in london with a load of other eve'ers would still be good fun. I'm sure we can find a decent party place to yarrr in.

You'd think people would consider actually booking the venue before announcing the dates and selling tickets.
There are hundreds of solutions to a seemingly simple problem. Here are a few:
1) Stay away from the central London area, hold it 30 mins away by train. Surely the further you go from the core, the easier and cheaper it must be to find a venue.
2) Delay it by a week or two.
3) If you find nothing that works, go to Hyde Park and we'll have an outside BBQ!
It really sounds like somebody just gave up and said '**** this, I'm done' here.
A lack of funding? Don't think so. A lack of dedication? Maybe. A lack of caring? Probably.
Disappointed.

I'm so dissapointed.
Its such a joke... everyone who booked this needs some sort of compensation, like a free year in EVE in terms of Subscriptions tbh. MMM can pay.
Sigh.

Edited by: Xicon on 08/06/2007 22:13:14 Allow me to interject here.
The management of a very unfortunate announcement of this nature is most difficult. Email people first, and by the time you are half-way through the list of people to contact there will already be posts on the forum. Announce it publicly and individuals who feel they should have been contacted first will understandably be upset.
Why was there not an official announcement from CCP? Because this was not a CCP-organised event. We have of course consulted CCP over this decission and the conclusion was unanimous. No one, really, is to blame here. Sometimes circumstances conspire against you.
I have personnally written this evening to all people who had purchased tickets (bar possibly half a dozen whose order details I do not yet have). My apologies are sincere and heartfelt.
We are refunding in full all those who have actually purchased tickets to the Awards.

I don't think anyone is complaining about not being mailed first. The issue is that there was no announcement on Eve-Online.com by anyone concerned, it was just dropped on a site that a lot of people haven't even seen before (I ordered tickets and hadn't even seen www.eonawards.com until I saw the cancellation linked, I just got them straight from the link in the Sales Thread, like a lot of people I know did.)
Still, it's nice to get a response eventually. There's an ass load of planning down the drain for everyone, MMM included.
Tbh the Tour de France needs to sod off back to Normandy, it's not called the "Tour de Europe" for a bloody reason.

It's the anniversary of the London suicide bombings two years back, as well as the fact that the date is 07/07/07, which apparently is really lucky.
Plus the fact that the Tour De France is coming to London over the same weekend.

The Tour de France visit to London was scheduled in a year ago.
The real question here is why the people booking the eon awards event apparently didn't bother checking what else was going on in London on the date they decided on. Pretty basic event planning really.
I feel sorry for everyone who has spent money and wasted time on this.

And why their contracts for lodging, facilities, and catering weren't iron-clad and backed by an army of Flesh Eating Lawyers. Sounds like someone really half-assed the planning phase.

Edited by: Clon3 on 10/06/2007 22:11:37 Question:
Wouldnt it just be bloody easier to move the venue to say.. outer london? e.g. areas such as oxford? Yes yes i know distances. However London has shuttle buses that run every 15 minutes between London and oxford... and it only costs ú12? i think a return ticket...
While this may not be the ideal solution, it atleast.... Doesnt disappoint the probably hundreads of eve players that are coming to london JUST for the eon awards =/...
While time maybe running out, its the least EON organisers can do to solve this mess...
=/

If SirMolle was organising this, the Tour de France would have been mysteriously cancelled.
