For clarification, Kiting, or to KITe is "Killing" or to "Kill In Transit" refers to the art of moving to avoid damage whilst returning fire.
And I'll admit to having said "mob" and "Guild" instead of "rat" and "corp" >.<

i'd like to add "this thread reeks of fanboy elitism" which is a phrase that has no place in the elitist fanboy world of eve.

I have heard and used the verb "to Kite" pretty often... don't see that many problems with "mob" and "guild" either to be honest...
All in all I must say that insisting on a specific form of lingo for one particular MMORPG is, in my opinion just a form of snobism. Many people here play or have played several games before Eve, and terminology will get mixed up. Just the way it goes, isn't it?

Every game has it's own culture, and EVE has one of the most individual MMO communities of the lot. It's distinguishably different as a game, and it's terminology reflects that. What seems appropriate when talking about a warrior's pets kiteing a mob of goblins, doesn't necessarily seem as appropriate for a pilot's drones popping a fleet of rats. It's all in the style.
"Guild" sounds very dungeons and dragons. It just doesn't feel right when talking about a hyper-capitalist allegiance of star ship owners. "Corporation" just fits the scenery. "Corporation" would sound pretty dumb in Everquest or WoW, too, I bet. --------

Or you can just spend the 10 minutes to realize some words don't have a place in EVE. Quite frankly EVE is the only game that deserves such "elitist fanboyism". Oh and trust me i think i did this post quite politely... ____________

One that does get on my nerves when I hear it is people referring to "raids" or "instances" or crap like that in place of "complexes". "Dungeons" is also an applicable wrong terminology for the same, but I've not heard it used.

Funnily enough, I just looked up "craft" on answers.com (as you do), and the definition of the verb is:
tr.v., craft+ed, craft+ing, crafts.
1. To make by hand.
So unless you made that Raven with your own two hands, you didn't craft it

Funny, the wiki says it's only one of the meaning the word has...
to craft (third-person singular simple present crafts, present participle crafting, simple past crafted, past participle crafted)
1. To make by hand and with much skill. 2. To construct, develop something (like a skilled craftsman): "state crafting", "crafting global policing."

Actually whenever somebody warps into the location of an exploration complex they will always warp to the same complex. There will never be 2 or more instances of that complex "splitting people between them" in the same exact location. ____________

Tahts not an instance. If it were an instance, I could warp to exactly the same spot, and you wouldn't be there. In EVE, even with exploration sites, if I warp to exactly the same spot, I'll find you there. --------

Actually, in "spacecraft" the "craft" part is a synonime to "ship".
Spacecraft means the same as spaceship, for most people anyway. If you want to use with the other meaning of "spacecraft", then it means "to build something in space", and it's hardly relevant here. "to craft", as a verb, indeed, means the same as "build" or "manufacture".
But when used as a substantive, it can mean "ship" or "vehicle"... or it can mean the skill/occupation of somebody has, as a builder/manufacturer. I guess you fell in your own trap ? _ New char creation guide | Module/Rig stacknerfing explained |

Well since you didn't say that crafting is inappropriate for building ships... I don't care much whether it's a trap or not. Words have more than one meaning, and it's stupid to try prevent people to use perfectly legit words for something. That is all I wanted to say.

Well, sure, they could use the word "craft" when refering to the activity of manufacturing a ship/module and not be wrong. However, the word is deprecated even in day-to-day use, and because this is not a fantasy game, the term "to craft" used instead of "to build" is a sign you are coming from a fantasy-based MMO background.
And that was the whole point of the thread, wasn't it ? To give people heads-up, avoid using terms that show you are not a "EVE-Onlineist" but rather a "EOnewb coming from some other MMOcraft". _ New char creation guide | Module/Rig stacknerfing explained |

You broke the board
The thing with Mob is that it isn't just what it stands for that makes it as popular as it is. It is a satisfying pun-- its a Mobile OBject, but it's also a pun on "mob", as in "gang". Same as Rat- a contraction of "piRATe", but also a pun on the word "rat" as in rodent (hence "I'm going out ratting", or "I'm going out to kill some rats", or "did you pick up the rat droppings?").
And Mob is a very suitable pun for groups of soldiers with swords, but not such a fun pun for spaceships. --------
