"As for the homosexuality concerns, what is more homosexual, starin at a beatiful girls face all day or wanting to look at those brutor apes in leather suites?"
Just the fact that you could consider looking at male digital mug shots in a nerdy space video game as some sort of sexual experience seems somewhat fruity to me.
The I'm so comfortable with my sexuality that I can act like a homo argument makes no sense either. I am very comfortable with my sexuality, doesn't mean that I choose to walk around in dresses, and if I did, it would in no way validate how comfortable I am with being a straight man. It would just be an unfortuneate\rediculous (from MY view point, in case anyone forgets that this is inherent as this is MY post on a message board where people share thier OWN opinion and views on the game and life) choice of clothing.
Also as far as acting out being something your not. Why is a space captain not enough. Why the need to slip into a virtual bra, because you can't do it real life? Just because video games LET men be women doesn't really mean that that should be a logical choice of action.
It honestly doesn't bother me that men choose female avatars (at least it bothers me much less than an episode of Will & Grace, god that show sucks, I should make my own comedy of roommates that suck off their dogs, that would be on the same comical level, I mean hey, if I have to be tolerant of one thing completely disgusting to me then why not make everyone go the whole 9 yards of sexual deviation tolerance). I still don't understand the attraction and don't feel that it is an inevitable outcome of free choice in the matter.
This post is not meant to infer that men that choose female avatars are in any way homosexuals. The OP made no reference to homosexuality, but it was brought up first in a response to a simply stated question, insecurity anyone?

Oki, so I am one of the several RL females who play Eve and yes I have met several females...we do exist...and we are all ebil!!! ebil I say!!!
When I first created Galya Tuvern, being new to MMOs, I identified with her as myself. As soon as I got Kajsa Anka I began to feel differently about my characters and then I joined fleet and also got a male character--that was that; they became the interface that I used to interact with people IG as opposed to be seeing my chars as "me" per se.
When I was in D2 fleet, people would call me Kajsa on TS and it kinda shocked me at first... I was GALYA DAMMNIT!!! But through that experience I began to realize that there are two ways to play Eve (at least for me), RPG style like my friend "Zevrik" does in the Caldari Navy Reserve...OR like me (RL/RPG) showing my own RL self with a bit of "let's pretend I am in outer space really flying this paper thin Heretic around a hostile Nyx" OH NOOOOOES!
And why is it that no one laments the female who plays the male character...hmmm? Maybe because not many females play but it seems to me to be a gender biased question...why not ask "why is it that people play characters that do not reflect their RL gender?"
Given the nature of online gaming it is prudent to ask, if you really need to know, what someone's gender is in RL...either that or watch and notice what they say and how they identify with things...if they are RPGing and good at it...you likely will not be able to tell. But if they are, like most people that I have encountered, doing the RL/RPG thing you can usually tell.
If you are too shy to ask then you should probably assume they are all men no matter the avatar's gender. It's a sad state of gaming that this is true and in the future this might change and you pervs will have more RL females to hit on
Another prudent question might be, why does it matter and why does this bother you? Are you making judgments about people based on how they choose to portray themselves in Eve? If so perhaps a better question might be an introspective one that only you can answer.
Oh...and if you find a character making long winded posts that painfully attempt to be diplomatic (and using the forum as if it was their own personal blog spot)...you prolly got either a female or a lawyer/politician or both
Yes that was a JOKE!!!! Don't ask me I'm not the keeper of the Mommy Milk! |

Originally by: Gorefacer I plain don't understand anyone that could get anything out of looking at a mugshot of a digital female character. That hard up for females? Just alt-tab to **** sites while your playing.
Done that, been ganked while afking in empire.
Most of my alts are females, but that's purely for looks purposes, I don't roleplay a female.
And I fail to see what sexuality has to do about it.

That might be it. I have a female char in another game and my guild is called 'Freedom girls going wild.' Actually I have no idea, how many of us are girls in RL, if any ! I only know that I am not. They liked my char, so they invited me to their team and later into their guild.
Today a stranger asked me via /tell, if I'm only wild in game or also in xxx'. I lol'ed and was wondering what's happening in the heads of some players. ___________ 'Only ships can be assembled, this is a Frigate.' |

Neither do I force anyone of my corpmates to pick any particular avatar, it's their choice.
Nor do I feel any sexual relationship with the picture anyone chooses, I mean they are just pixels. They are neither male nor female but only a computergenerated image.
So in the end it's really what looks nicer to you. And for me at least, a female face looks nicer than a male face.

because we make these chars in hopes that we can get our gf's to play and therefore stop nagging us because we made them such a cool char to use .
the problem being once we get the skills up we decide the char is too good for her and use it ourselves .
or because losing in pvp $ucks but losing to a girl is even worse
anything else is a lie

Attractive to male? A male trying to attract another male is a bit homosexual, don't you think?
I am a girl IRL and in Guild Wars, I play a male warrior, because I have a better chance to block your opponents (larger hitbox) and I am safe from annoying men picking on me. So I try to attract other females and therefore I am les bian !? I can't follow your argumentation If you try to reason someones sexual preferences from his/her character's picture it's just like crystal ball gazing.

What would you prefer to see? My nice avatar, or me in RL? I'm 50 years old, 1m60cm, weigh half a ton, my skin is all weird, I hardly ever shave because it's too much work, and since I'm single, I quit washing my shirts (also too much work).

Same reason as everyone else...
If you have to look at a face all day, it might as well be one you find pretty, right?
It does get tiresome though because I'm a bit of a roleplayer so I sometimes refer to myself as female :P Confusion ensues. __________________________________

1980 called and wants this thread back.
Seriously, search or google. This topic comes up fairly often in this forum, and also has in every MMO forum since the dawn of MMOs. I personally remember this debate in the EQ beta discussion boards. Before that, people talked about it on the BBSs when the issue was men playing females in door games and on usenet regarding MUDs.
If I recall, several scholarly research papers have also been written on this, as well as at least a handfull of professional (e)magazine articles.
The consensus seems to be that a man that prefers looking at fake women is just homosexual. No, wait, not that, the consensus is that the only people who get offended by it are homophobes. Er, not that either, maybe it was a complex and pointless issue. Or maybe it was just the free stuff and attention that female (real or otherwise) seem to get.

Well we need someone to play with the female avatars otherwise eve would be filled with alot of lonely male avatars. Most women are usually too busy playing World of Warcraft of Sims Online to bother with gate camping or chipping rocks. A game of bullies like this is always testosterone driven.

A very nice blanket assumption. But aside from that, Why would I desire a woman who plays WoW?
