I jumped my carrier to a corp POS today after i had spent the morning putting mods back into reasonable locations (there was a small autocannon 45km outside the force field to boot). While i was there, a stabber warped to the cyno field (low sec, ship mounted, not pos mounted). I saw a single autocannon fire, and after about 45 seconds he warped off. Neither of the Warp Disruption batteries had been able to lock him. I looked at their info, and saw they now have a scan res of 10mm. I hopped in my dread and warped to the pos and went into siege. With signature analysis 5, my scan res was 14.0625 mm (no sensor booster). I know from experience that this means it takes me about 45 seconds to lock a battleship, or 130ish to lock a cruiser. What this means, is that for any 'large' pos mod (scrams, webs, disruptor's, large guns) to lock and begin engaging anything, making you completely unable to hold a target that doesn't want to be there. These scan resolutions need to be re-adjusted to make pos defense feasible. --------------

also 10mm, as are damps, and all other EWAR esque modules --------------

10mm scanres on the ewar batteries? Ouch. Might as well just use all small guns so they actually get some shots off before the targets warp away.

Edited by: Slate Fistcrunch on 21/06/2007 02:25:49 I decided to go back and take a look at how effective the scan resolution is on the new pos array attributes.
From what I know, all electronic warfare arrays have 10mm scan resolution and follow the same lock time rules that ships do. If that's the case, then the following graph will illustrate how weak these arrays have become. You could literally warp in with your covert ops, become decloaked, go take a bio break, come back, and warp off before having to worry about being scrambled at the tower. Granted the guns might get you before then but no worries about the ewar arrays.
Mods: before you nuke this image, realize it's less than 13k in size.
Shuttle = 255 sec Frig = 217 sec Cruiser = 181 sec BC = 156 sec BS = 149 sec Dread = 131 sec Carrier = 129 sec

looks like a return to the days of using ceptors to empty out pos guns for risk-free BS assaults, then.

This is really a huge problem. Now that guns can be individually targeted you can take 10-15 bs, fly in, unload for two minutes, warping in and out to juggle agro, rinse and repeat, without any fear from from ewar at all - not to mention the old interceptor / shuttle trick. _______________ Pwett CEO and Founder [QTC]QUANT Corp.

Good analysis Slate.
This has just compounded the problems facing hisec starbases and unless CCP change this they're basically sitting ducks.

Well. Large guns are not intended against battleships (or interceptors) anyway. However - I do not think that it's good idea that all e-war batteries are considered large. It's what ... almost 5 minutes of flying circkles around your guns with AF gang before webers get one of them locked ?

Wouldn't work as Large POS guns also have pitiful scan resolution.
However, it does raise the idea of POS Sensor Boosters.

I agree, but this scanres issue is removing even lowsec and 0.0 pos's from their role of 'somewhat safe'. If i have allies sitting outside the shield, any single ship or small gang can waltz right up to them and kill them before the pos even reacts, and that's where it is now broken. Of course a gang intent on destroying the tower should be able to do so, but random strikes on pos's and people at them should not be this easy.

And yet the stasis sentries on an npc POS can have an interceptor locked in a few seconds.. me want those! ;)

I'm still hoping to see a response to this, this would require a substantial shift in POS deployment mechanics. _______________ Pwett CEO and Founder [QTC]QUANT Corp.

Edited by: Maxine Blade on 22/06/2007 15:46:59 Edited by: Maxine Blade on 22/06/2007 15:46:50 This really is bad... Even the small guns are useless now due to the Optimal being 5km... with Falloff at 40km with Small ACs...
There is a Tracking Array in the items database. I hope they add scan res bonus to it.
