This is a skill I had at character creation and have spent time learning to 5 with a large number of other trading skills as it is the prime purpose of this character.
But I was told today that someone thought it had been removed from the game.
I checked my skill sheet and lo and behold it HAD gone away.
I've lost five ranks of a skill and seem to have gained nothing for the experience.
What's going on?
I've hunted around but can find nothing official on it yet.
Has anyone else had this happen?
Do you know why?
Is there a skill compensation?
What should I do?
Help me, someone?

Apparantly, a couple of skills were removed in rev 2.0. I read somewhere that they're being put back in the next patch due to the number of angry people complaining about losing SP.

They weren't removed, just aren't listed on your character anymore.
You will note that your "Skills trained" shows more skills, than you can count in the tabs. Same with points trained.
They just removed showing the skill in the list cause it does nothing.

If you look at your character on this website you'll see the the 'missing' skills.

There are skills you can train just to waste your time?

There were skills with no actual use or a broken system in the game, Black Market Trading never really worked (I have it at 5 on an alt), Mobile Factory Operation lacked an use too, and Salvage Drone Operation was added without the drones, to name a few ...
Those skills are in the database, but don't have uses right now ... you could train them before, to "waste some time" and grab a few skillpoints, but now they don't show in your skill list (even if the points are still there).

These are skills that ended up in the game by mistake and have no effect on anything.

Well many(most) knew that the still goes does nothing when they trained it but did it anyway and I think black market trading came from old character creation specialization that does not exist anymore.
The reason CCP hid was apparetly people petitioning asking why the skill didnŠt do anything and I recently saw CCP person saying that they are gonna show the skills again because people are now petitioning where the skill went...

yeh i petitioned this, and the GM said it would get shown again.
as for it not working? it probably doesn't - though a year or so ago, i distinctly remember a GM saying on the forums "according to our logs it works". i've had a look for the post, but can't find it.

Black Market Trading was reported to work by ccp for a long time it's just not the most practical skill in the world to try and tell if it's working.

I mean come on, you let your players spend 2 weeks learning a skill to lvl 5, and then you tell em its a waste. Thats like playing WoW for hours to gain a level, that doesnt give you any advancement.
So they remove the skill, because it doesnt work (if it worked, they hadnt remove it) to realize: "Oh, we are actually cheating our players". But instead of giving them the SP back, or some free SP to distribute, they rather put a useless skill back into place, so no one is crying. Yet its still useless, its just there, to keep em quite.

Sort of on-topic, here's something really stupid:
Your character sheet has "Settings" and you can set it to show all skills.
Oh no, it won't list your Salvage Drone Op, Mobile Refinery/Factory Op or your Black Market Trading.
However, it gladly lists this junk that's never been in the game:
Corp Management - CFO Training
Social - DED Connections
Science:
Astronautic Engineering
Diagnostic Interfaces
Duplicating
Genetic Engineering
Gunnery Interfaces (skillbook is visible on the market but I've never seen a copy on market or escrow/contracts)
Hypernet Science
Mnemonics
Remote Interfaces
Reverse Engineering (they added a skill and then changed plans to Invention and left this hanging around?)
I hoard skills, so I may feel more acutely about these "errors" than others.

I want a Cooking skill so I can cook up my Livestock and Dairy to impress hawt chyx.
...actually, maybe a Macking skill would be better.

Cooking skill would actually work... Cook the frozen corpses (kinda like invention!) and have the result be an illegal contraband that agents in 0.0 want.
