Hello , this is my fist post on these forums and i wanted to say some things, both to the community and the developers.
My real name is Kyusoath Tomar and i am 24 years young.
I have played UO,EQ,SWG,WOW and a few less memorable MMO games. I spent the bulk of that time in SWG(nearly 2 years) and WOW(over 2 years) in both of those games i started with nothing and built up friendships and my char , and was very heavily involved in endgame content (for what its worth in WoW i was in SSC and in SWG , well i was badass:) ).
Basically i played hard and to a high level the guilds i was part of were well known and revered on the servers i played on.Most people could count me as a hardcore player who played to win in both PvE and PvP, and most of the time we did win.
There is nothing i don't know about the 'classes' i played in these games i spent many hours out of game figuring things out and optimising builds and combinations, i still have excell spread sheets on my desktop figuring out spell coeffs for my warlock to see what builds gave better dps.
I heard about EVE not long after SWG came out, being a big star wars fan i thought i'd give SWG a try , thas where i learned how MMOs are and figured it was very different to the FF series i played(FF8 played to death, and the rest). i enjoyed playing it and enjoyed killing people knowing that me doing so actually meant something to them(breaking their 100million credit armor and NS lance).
WoW was eating SWGs player base , i saw people leave weekly for it. and so did the developers, who saw fit to completely break the game for the players that enjoyed it by introducing a so-called Combat Upgrade, in campaigning against this destruction of the game me and several guild members got banned. good riddance.
In looking for the next MMO i should try i went to WoW, following the crowd. I hated the graphics in WOW, its terrible cartoony characters covering up that the people making it had very little artistic ability. i didn't want spells i wanted laser beams but alas i stayed ,for 2 years , up until 2 days ago.
I stopped because it was taking too much effort to go nowhere . the effort and time put in to get nothing more than a slight upgrade to what you already have. and the challenge? killing scripted bosses? killing arena teams that had no chance (gear>skill).
I essentially realised i was playing the EQ nerds wet dream game, where 8 hour raids with 40/25 people fighting scripted bosses was the be all and end all of the game.the gameplay was a rip-off of EQ and the Lore a rip-off of Warhammer (for anyone that cares , GW invented green skinned orcs blizzard ripped the whole Warhammer universe off and did it again with starcraft).
But now i play EVE, and after 4 hours of play i stopped , sighed and shed a single tear, in both sadness and joy. Sad that i had wasted my time with wow. sad that i had picked swg instead i could have played EVE. but joyful because i am here now.
EVE has its flaws, but the depth of gameplay is greater than any other game i have played. also in 2 years of WOW i never saw a GM, in EVE the third message that popped up in the rookie channel was a GM , actually helping people.
the skill system is a work of genius. imo the greatest i have yet seen in an MMO.
And whats great that in the 2 days i've played (i over did it a little i think , i've played almost non-stop , very tired now..) i have not even scratched the surface.
A thousand blessings on you CCP.

PS I look forward to killing you all soon.

I'd say welcome and say goodbye to your real live, but you probably allready did so, seen the years of MMO's.
And as the other poster siad, you'll never leave again. I've had times when i wasnt motivated to play EVE anymore. Then I tried one or two other games, and there was always only one single conclusion: Nothing can match EVE.

I say welcome. I left EQ for the same things you mention. I left tho in 2003 and started to play EVE.
My 4 year brithday is July 27.. I have played alot since that day. One thing you learn is EVE is like no other. The main difference is it only a subscription fee every month. If you work hard enough you can make it free... GTC
Now things to expect. Death works both ways. Patch day is getting a whole new game. Get EVE Voice.

Please don't mention the W word around here unless you are using the name of that game to curse someone, it gives the locals itchy trigger fingers.
Welcome to Eve, the only MMO you'll ever play from now on. All the rest pale into insignificance. Not only that but Eve becomes so addictive that it eats into your RL time so your alternate gaming time has no chance.

Welcome to Eve!
Prepare for a life imprisonment many have found that there is no leaving Eve, veterans return from 'sabaticals' every week as there is just nothing like it out there
Obviously there are quircks but there is no perfection, in my opinion though Eve is as close as it gets.

One thing I can say.. you will never find another game where the developers of that game, and the rest of the staff, have open discussions with the player base. I'm not meaning.. a "read what we posted on the website" but a true forum thread.. where they respond to questions / concerns in person.
I personally came from DAOC (I heard about EvE when it was in closed beta.. got an offer to test it, but I was on 56k Dial-up at the time, and kinda forgot about it)... 4 years later, here I am.
I often go read the forums of the other MMO's that I've played, and I find it humorous to say the least. They have no idea what a TRUE MMO is, imo.
My opinion is my own, not of my corp or my alliance. If you have problems, we can have a "who can do L4 missions faster" duel >:) |

I played Ultima Online for a year and a half, got so annoyed with it I said I would never ever play another mmo.
Eventually a mate of mine who was one of my deputies (I was a sheriff of Jhelom for a spell) told me to join eve, I said no for maybe 6 months. But eventually I tried a 14 day trial and within a few days some noob posted a recruitment ad in local and told me he would make me rich. Of course then my eyes lit up. And pretty much from that day I was hooked on eve, 3 or so years later I'm still here. STILL WAITING FOR MY RICHES INSUPERABLE..
Welcome to the fold, just one thing before you go about wreaking peoples stuff, the Eve-Online forums are a hotbed for tinfoil hatery. Take everything you read in these forums with a pinch of salt, make that a big pinch.
I Shoot first, ask questions about your veldspar mining technique later |
