To attempt to create load on the server we invite everyone to join us in attacking a Starbase on Singularity (the test server) on Sunday, 8 July at 11.00 to 12.00 GMT. To participate in this event you'll need to have a client set up for testing, more information on that can be found in this FAQ. When you log in, join the in game channel 'starbaseattack' the event will take place in the FD-MLJ system. Because the event starts at 11.00 GMT and lasts for about an hour you should make sure you have your character set up with ships prior to the event, preferably in FD-MLJ or very close to it. Since we'll be attacking a starbase we suggest you use Dreadnaughts or Carriers.
This is being run to compare performance between Revelations 2.01 and the upcoming Revelations 2.1 (with Python 2.5 runtime). We would like to thank everyone who shows up to help us test this in advance.
Please post here if you have any questions about this event.

Battleships work for taking down POSs, you just need more of them. I'm sure they want everyone to be there, not just capital pilots. --- Proud Amarr pilot.

yeah, that sounds like a great idea to me too. So, how about it CCP? you want more people? let us fly dreads and we'll surely load the server.

Maybe you could give the skills for a capital ship to the people who have shown they actively test the game instead of just sitting in FD- PvPing all day? You know, a sort of reward thing, you get your server load and we get to do some more testing with the caps after this is done

Ok, since I don't have a Cap ship or a BS...can I come out and watch? All I have is a BC. I like watching things blow up. Plus, with the added body in sys it will still load up the server - right?

capital ships are not required for the testing, we need to create load for 2 reasons.
1. we need to measure any performance gain (will get to this later) 2. i need to review the logs afterwards to see if and what new errors are created due to the language change.
we are upgrading from python 2.3 to python 2.5. we are also upgrading visual studio to service pack 1 which effects the compilers.
the change to python 2.5 is mainly because it's better to use than python 2.3, it has newer functions and will give us a performance increase. it's also about bastard time we upgraded it. some of us have been working on this for sometime, i have done alot of benchmark testing on my local server where it is easier to do exact tests on the different languages and measure the results. in some services we have gained a 5% CPU reduction, in other services (like NPC combat) we have gained as much as a 30% reduction.
what i was planning before we announced the release to you peeps and peepetts was a devblog with some graphs and numbers and stuff, but tbh i have been so busy lately i haven't even got all the results together and sent them internally. i was planning to have my 1st weekend off this year, but i want to get this together and send it out to the powers that be at CCP. if i have time i will try and blog it somehow so you have an idea of the gain etc.
1 more comment before i pass out due to lack of beer and sleep, we are gaining memory and CPU on both the client and the server. i can't prove this for sure, but the biggest gain is on the server.
ok, 1 more comment. there has already been alot of testing for this internally and it has been running on sisi for the last 2 days. there are no issues being reported that don't already exist on TQ. so we have no reason to delay releasing this, so when i say "it will be out soon", expect something in the news rambling about a patch bla bla bla very soon.

so, never been involved in any fleet battles yet, so how do we fit? pure for damage or should we bring some tank it it aswell (fitting a geddon for it)
also i noted that you said "make sure you have your character set up with ships", is it me readin to much into this or should i fit a coupple?
on a sidenote, maybe make a few cyno's so people in capitals get a chance to get outthere (incase they dont have themselves an alt to do it)

Not sure if it's the case, but from the looks of it you're mainly interested in server-side performance and server-side logs, right ?
Is there a chance you'll be asking a few of us for client-side logs ? If yes to any of the above, do individual computer specs matter ? Are you interested in a fair spread of systems (from really lousy, barely-able-to-run-EVE machines, up to the best gaming rigs possible) or just in the upper spread ?
Should everybody (or for that matter anybody) run the "client logserver" at all or not for this particular test ? I mean, would it be of any use at all, or would it just interfere with the normal test, seing how it's "normally" not used on TQ by pilots ? And, for that matter, should we be running whatever other programs we normally run (EVE-Mon, antivirs, TS/Ventrilo, etc) or shut them all down ?
On to more "mundane" matters.
Is this a "live random fire" POS, so should we pack a strong buffer tank on a battleship, or can we just get in and add some load with "whatever" ship we have at the moment ? Or, quite the contrry, should we bring weaker ships, as you need loads of wrecks and drones and other objects scattered around in the aftermath ? Should we "optimize" our overview, or should we just leave it packed choke-full with stuff like beacons, drones and so on ?
And, so on, I guess you know where I'm heading

Running the LogServer is highly reccomended. If you get any weirdness or errors of course you should then report it.
Your shiptypes don't really matter. What we want is just a good ol' fashion lagfest under realistic circumstances, and that's easily obtained with a bunch of ships, bunch of drones, bunch of explosions etc. Your survivability however will probably be greater the bigger ship/harder tank that you have. Small ship pilots can expect to have to grab new ships a few times ;)
Also, just have fun, I set up a starbase that should survive some spanking, and is meaner towards smaller ships then bigger (lots of small and medium guns, not so many large).
