For all those victims of piracy I have this advice. Following this plan will work only if a united front is formed. 1. Stop paying ransoms. The pirate exists partly by getting players to give them money to they aren't pk'ed. So, eliminate that form of money and pirates suffer. 2. Stop paying for protection. Players who pay bullies for protections will never achieve their full worth unless they stand up to pirates. I'm not talking about hiring players, but about players who intimidate to get money. 3. Fight all pirates everywhere to take back the space you have live in. It's your home, don't let someone run you out. 4. United front. If all non pirates allied together to hunt pirates down and destroy them than less pirates would be around because they would fear us. Group together and help each other out.
Yes, piracy adds an element needed for this game, but this game seems controlled by the pirates. Let's take it back. Use local to warn others of pirates, get together and go to the gatecampers, ore thieves, etc. and show them who rules who. But some might say that the pirates are powerful. Yes they are. But who makes the most money? We do. Why do they pirate us? So they can make money. Stop making it easy for the pirates. Stop rolling over. Stand up and fight. Keep your hard earned money for yourself. But divided we fall, united we stand. Some of us make a stand, but until all do, we will always fight a pitched battle. Let's stand up for ourselves and do what is needed.

Clearly, giving the pirate more free killmails will make him less likely to continue piracy!

? have you never shot down a ship in your eve life?
When a ship explodes, it creates a wreck. Inside that wreck is what people usually call loot. That contains of modules that did not get blown up when that ship exploded.
That "loot" can be taken from that wreck and into your ships cargohold. It can then be sold or reprocessed and the minerals sold. Often a single module can be sold for many many isks.

#1 You don't pay a ransom with a tech2 fitted covetor. Then you drop modules that they sell for more than what the ransom was going to be.
#2 If you are in a place where there are a lot of pirates and you are trying to mine/rat/whatever and you do not pay for them to leave you alone after you are asked to pay then it is sort of like #1. You lose your ship and they still make money off the loot.
#3 It will depend upon who is around you. If it is a larger pirate corp and you are a small corp of miners and mission runners good luck trying to kill them. But, if they are a smaller corp then you should try fighting them, if you fail you can always fall back upon #2.

You are either an alt spamming with useless flamebait or you have really failed to grasp the entire concept of eve.
Piracy is part of eve. It is in many ppls opinions what makes eve great. Why would anyone want to turn eve into yet another mmorg? Tbh if this is a serious post then i suggest you leave game and try one of the nicer fluffier games. You can probably get like a month free or something at WOW.

And I dont TRY to carebear....anyways, as it seems i'm a better carebear than 90% of the low sec victims we have purely by accident, I speak not only on behalf of the pirates here, but also on behalf of the carebears.

Stopping piracy can be done by long term players, and noobs alike. Noobs, start using sensors before you jump in to low sec, any ships you see not moving by the gate are, yup, pirates. So, don't give them an easy 50K. Go around. So, you are in an asteroid field, hear comes an ore thief, leet him take your stuf, go to the station nearest(where your fighter is) and go back and wreak vengeance and discipline. HAve a buddy near to defend you if you can. The best thing. And whatever you do, DON'T jettison a canister and fill it. Buy a locked container. These steps will greatly help in prevention and destruction of piracy/ore thieves.

Mate, from the way I see it. YOU are the one taking it too seriously, pirating is one of the funnier/funniest aspects of the game.
We do it because it's FUN, now if you'd do a huge carebear rally that'd be fun. But I doubt it , it's about as likely as pirates rallying togheter (=null void?)
Anyways, hope you'll find an aspect you'll enjoy.
That's what games are about, fun :) And this is pretty damned much fun.

I have blown up alot of pirates. Let me explain. I warp in to a low sec space astoriod belt. There they sit. 3 big bad pirates just waiting to get owned by me. I see them first and let loose the big dogs. Here they come. They are unleashing all they have. Not good enough. Not with me. After lock # 2 and # 3 I start firing and they take my shields. My shields for # 2 is okay with me. I trade half armour for # 3 and once again, I'm top dog. I don't know who the Guristas Corp are but they aren't very good. Oh, and # 1 died in the first barrage. lol. Just kidding. :)

And while we are at removing things, then just remove all of the carebears for us in EVE CCP, since we can have much much more smoother fleet battles then, and that makes all of the PVPers happy .
And btw, piracy will NEVER stop / die. Since it's a part of the game, like the mission / npc / mining stuffs is.

I fully plan on equipping me ship to the fullest. All noobs listen, when you fight pirates, mostly they are pretty hard to defeat. Putting the goos, expensive stuf on your ships will improve your odds, but will also suck worse if you die. Big IF. So, Risk vs reward. But don't bring a knife to a gun fight. Better safe than sorry. For the brave lone wolf types, scan, scan, scan. And mark a safe spot. Get to it when traveling in low sec. Then scan. Once safe, proceed. However, if pirates are heading your way or unidentified ships coming your way, warp out. Don't trust anyone. Watch local for people. The overview isn't very reliable.

Carebears as I define them are simply too lazy, stupid or greedy to actually achieve a goal like tackling piracy and its causes.
Industrialists as I define them are mosre capable of defending their assets however that doesn't mean they are any more capable. At least industrialists have the capacity to fight. Isk is seen by many to be a goal but god forbid, it be used for any decent cause.
EVE doesn't need carebears (nice people they may be). If we have industrialists we can do without carebears. However to defeat piracy need a change in peoples attitudes and as it currently stands too few have the capacity to actually do it.

Please forgive my hasty hands and overlook my typing erros and grammar malfuntions". Better? And I agree with you T.M. but I hope some aren't like what you described. Yet, I believe most are. So, now you know my goal. To wake up the indulstrialists and others who choose not to stand up for what they have. As I said before, piracy has it's place. Like all things in the game. But players should stand up for themselves and not be bullied.

The pirates are what makes the Low sec systems livable. Normally the guys in 0.0 don't ask for ransoms and they gate camp for free. And traveling in packs is second nature to us. We would bring 0.0 type of space right up to your door step. Your choice...piracy or carnage.

Edited by: sophisticatedlimabean on 11/07/2007 23:02:00 Do you realy think you will stop piracy?. Please get this through you obviously thick skull.
Piracy as you call it is just low sec pvp and your not gonna stop pvp.
First comes 0.0.
Before you go on listen up, only a total and complete moron would jump around in a non friendly area ie; not their alliances held space, of 0.0 flying a hauler because he would be asking to be popped. Most would have a scout or gaurd even in their home systems tbh.
Then comes low sec
Low sec is a area where you get a little protection from pvpers in the form of gate guns and station guns, there is also the fact that the persons or person fighting take status hits so they cannot fly in empire space. And only a moron jumps into or around a area not held by their alliance or corp in low sec without a scout or gaurd.
Then we get empire.
You and your ideas belong in empire thats where all the things you want are. Ie; protection from pvpers and the freedom to move around without getting shot at.
Where will your moronic ideas stop?. So after you have turned low sec into empire what would be next 0.0?.
Do everybody a favor, stick to emipre and STFU if you cannot handle low sec or 0.0.
Oh yes and there are areas that ppl get together in large groups to fight others that want their stuff, space and or isk. Its called low-sec and 0.0 and the things they call the groups they make to do this are called alliances or corps you plonker.

Here is a fool proof solution to not getting pirated.
Do not undock, You are safe nowhere, but a station, and someday that might change too.
When undocked you lend yourself to lag, greifers and nasty pirates, if you do not undock, they cannot do anything, sit in your station and admire your ship, which is 100% protected from pirates, gankers and high sec war decs.
If we all just stop undocking, this pirating menace will solve itself, as pirates without any food turn actively on themselves, and in turn new victims are made and should also refrain from undocking.
In the end, while were all safely docked only one person will remain undocked, and his choice is either rat of self destruct to get the bang.
EVE is not run by pirates, while their is a healthy number of them, if they were not doing what they were doing, the markets would goto hell, and when over pirating occurs, people become mercs and get money to kill. If all else fails form the privateers, war dec all of eve empire corps and 0.0 alliances reliant on empire logistics and get the game devs to nerfbat you.
So
1. Stop paying ransoms. Ransoms are a method to save YOURSELF money, The pirate is happy with the money or the loot, and its the victim who has to gather the modules by them travel different systems for the ship, repay insurance. if this figure of time wasting and cost is lower than paying a ransom, just keep F1 F2 F3 F4 F5 F6 F7 F8. and in no time you can be buying new implants and a new ship. Ransoms are a service from pirates to us. Im not a pirate and id be damned glad if i get offered a ransom, securing my pod safety, my modules and my ship and cargo which would be a bore to go out and collect again and at a loss. if it costs more to pay the ransom well i can just hope i warp my pod away.
2. Paying for protection Ok this seems more reasonable, but depending on the situation, if your in a system and your making alot of isk, and someone says were going to destroy you and not let you make any isk of fun at all, unless you pay us this to not shoot you, if the benefit is higher than the negative then your going to stay, your not going to say well ok wed make enough money anyway to cover this but were gonna fight and die or move shop and wait for someone else to come by.
3. Pirates are the one who pick the battles. if they think there going to lose they'll warp off. If people fight every encounter they see a pirate, pirating would become MORE lucrative. The people pirates shoot often cannot fight back, and if they did the pirates will flee when they feel they will lose or do not stand a chance. Why is this? Because maybe pirates dont want to die either, and they might think its stupid to let yourself die in a fight you started just because they started it, gain nothing but lose nothing.
Anti United Front. Just if you managed to rally all non pirates and non pvp chars into a single entity to combat pirates, the pirates would do strike groups against you, as they are better at pvp, they will just have more targets, and if you can suffocate piracy with a blanket, then they would unite so you got a United front of non pirates, and a United Front of pirates, Place your bets now.
Piracy isnt going to change, Warp to 0 nerfed them abit in areas, and also buffed them in others. its a 2 bladed sword.
And while i like to keep my ship and modules intact and in piece and would rather not be pirated ill do what i can in my power to live but im not going to suddenly hate pirates because they pirate, alot of them are awesome people. who just want your stuff, if you want to or not

You seem to miss one important thing, pirates, pirate, pirates
So while there are many useless non skilled pirates, there are also skilled pirates, not to mention pvp corps who will kill for fun and profit and not actively pirate. Then there is merc corps who are paid to pirate or kill people for what ever reasons.
Then there are the alts of pirates which are pirated when trying to supply the pirate to pirate. There are even pirates who pirate their own alt who was trying to get supplies for the pirate who pirated himself.
The definition of pirate is touchy, do you count all people who shoot others for their personal gain a pirate? carebears who see a good opportunity to make some quick isk by killing someone else isnt uncommon. There are RP pirates, opportunist pirates, Carebearing pirates, sadistical pirates, casual pirates and dedicated pirates, fact is piracy can cover almost everything under the sun.
Next thing you should know is pirates do not care, you could blow 1000's of pirates up and they probably wont care. The pirates attacked might care but pirates arent going to rush in to save them, this is why large alliances of pirates dont work, too many blues not enough food.
Theres enough to piracy to everything else, then theres NBSI, what the difference between a pirate corp setting up and taking over a whole system, compared to a alliance/corp setting up in a 0.0 system with NBSI, they are protecting their assets, While the main reason is to get kills and loot for pirates, the alliance is looking for isk and grow in strength to take space of other people and take control of their assets, For good or for evil. what you count as piracy could be alot of things.
Would i be considered a pirate for ganging up and killing a red pilot in some system minding his own business ratting? you can put in defence it was to damage the enemy and weaken them that 0.000001% more. But he didnt engage me, and we went to blow him up. It didnt matter he was minding his own business, nor he was not shooting us at this time, he was a enemy plain and simple, and like wise they do the same when given the chance. Pirates just see anyone they want as enemies.
Fact of the matter is, piracy has many faces, many roles and many different views, and no view is the correct one, if you dont agree with other peoples views you aways have the myriad of ways to PVP, being commerce or with F keys.
You can go around claiming to of killed 100's of pirates all you want but no one cares. will a pirate care if you killed competition? i mean a dead pirate means that pirate wont pirate someone allowing for a increased chance another pirate can pirate them, im sure they would thank you for pirating pirates pirating in their pirating area.
All in all ive said pirate too many times in this thread, but it just makes me smile to see people who think they can stop piracy.
Like i said, if you want to kill piracy, just don't undock, and im sure with this alt of yours you take that advice clearly.
PS, my views are not the views of corp/alliance ect.

When an alliance invades and takes a region from another alliance they take something that wasn't thers to begin with. People in 0,0 form gangs and , unless they're defending homesystems, usually only attacks when a win is insured. A ****load of people in 0,0-gangs are unexperienced "PvPers" who hides in big gangs hoping that he/she isn't going to be called primary. Some pirates act the same way but most of pirates solo-PvP too. Far from every 0,0-PvPer solo PvPs.

Originally by: MASTER SMAMMAH For all those victims of piracy I have this advice.
I dont survive off of ransoms, mods is bread and butter. The only way to stop me pirating is for me to get banned. Even if people never fitted mods i would still blow people up.You cant stop piracy, ccp can but not players.

why is anyone who can pvp going to help you? lose a ship and laugh, go out and find something you can fight, it's not going to kill your security status. i'd be all over you, but your battleship would be docked before i could even locate you on scanner with my rifter... have to lose some to win any whatsoever.

Smammah, English clearly isn't your first language, and you may be missing some subtleties here. Currently you are just kind of setting yourself up as a laughing stock, which probably isn't your intent. It's pretty clear to most people here that you probably haven't been playing long, and definitely haven't killed anybody yet.
I recommend you find an anti pirate corp and join them instead of trolling the forums. Get some experience, keep up those ESL classes, and come back in 6 months and write a nice story about your experience.

I have one word for you sir "Lol".
Also: Ganging up on said pirates to erase them would thierfore spur groups of none PVPing carebears to conform to PVP thierfore adding the extra element that they might actually like it and turn into said "Bully groups" themselves.
Alls your idea would do is cause more people to move to low sec and more pirates to arise.
Any decent pirate is just looking for a good fight (not gatecamping ganks), providing them with more targets would thierfore spur them to pirate more. =

I know a few corps/groups in my local region who have tried this, while it sounds like a great idea it doesnt always work, 2 things tend to happen in that scenario.
1) their a good bunch and well up for a scrap, they bring similarish numbers, either just above or just below their opponents numbers to ensure a fight kicks off and theres no excuse for 1 party to flee.
2) the above is ignored and 1 of the partys bring in an insane qty of pilots to the fight, and because of the massive difference its not worth fighting and no fight occurs.
I have experienced both situations above, and if situation 2 occurs, nothing is lost, no-one wins anything except wasting a bit of time allround. If situation 1 occurs i often find that its the pirates that win.
Your ideas and plans may work against overly keen/gullable pirates, but against ones that have seen it all before, its not a great solution.

As i have said stay in empire its where you obviously want to be.
Or build a corp or alliance to keep your own little bit of low sec clear of us piwats until you have enough numbers to turn the whole of low-sec into a carebear paridise.
Then all you need to do is convinse BOB, RA/goon and all the other large pvp alliances to go carebear and eve can be your own personal paridise sculptured so you and only you can enjoy it.
Get it through you head empire is where all the things you want are at. Low sec and 0.0 are places you obviously do not like so do not go there and its all good.

The game isn't controlled by pirates, not anywhere close. Essentially, most of the people who make posts like this seem to feel that their little piece of low sec should be as safe as empire.
News flash, it shouldn't be. Greater rewards come with greater risks.
I also hate to break it to you, but if every person in eve stopped paying ransoms, and stopped paying "protection money," there would still be pirates.

you seem motivated by some movie like pirates of the carribbean, spouting out some drivel like that hottie did in the last movie and everyone went like "yarr she's right" but well... that probably wont happen here cause lets face it you're not that hot. -

People in this game don't understand the concept of piracy as well as they should, because there arent any "real life" pirates floating around nowadays.
If you want to deal with pirates, just do whatever you can to keep them away. Fly in large groups, negotiate, whatever. Paying ransom will get them to go away and not touch your ship.... THATS WHAT YOU WANT ISNT IT?

Your seeing that the wrong way - if you pay the local pirate corp for protection, then you can mine/missionrun/do whatever you like the whole day, and you can be almost sure that the pirates will keep other problems away from you.

Originally by: MASTER SMAMMAH I was wondering when the sheep would talk. For all you noobs, being a pirate doesn't make you a better pvper. Being a pirate only means you take what isn't yours and you try to steal from others. And pirates gang up anf gank people. So, who really are the best pvpes? Not most pirates. Unless in a group. lol. Even questionable there.
usually pirates are used to work alone or in small groups (2 - 4 people) just for the simple reason that larger groups make it unprofitable.
The Reason why Pirates usually are better PVP'ers is simply that they got a lot experience - your not often hitting a newb pirate cause those usually dont have much success, so most pirates are people with pvp experience that decided that they need another source of isk then doing boring things like mining, ratting, plexing or whatever you carebears do :p

That is a very good question" What is the difference of pirate and antipirates?" So this is my def:
Pirate: One who takes what isn't his/hers and makes a living off of it.
Anti-pirate: One who doesn't. However, hitting pirates and thieves is okay because it's justice.
I know everone had an opinion of the definition. However, this is mine.
Wars are different. I will now explain further.
In society there are a set rules governing how one interacts with each other. Basic human respect regarding ones property and life. When some begin violating the rules and laws of society, others rise up to keep the peace and to wreak justice and vengence upon the transgressors. Hence, pirates, anti-pirates. In the society of eve the unjust are rising to a level unheard of before so justice must be dealt out with an iron hand. Some must rise and put down the unjust. And, sadly, sometimes that isn't enough. So the weak must become strong to stop the onslaught of the wicked.

So.. lets say there is a low sec system. Lets say in this system is the home of a minin/industrial corp - which are living the "hard" low-sec life. Now lets say there are some Miners/Ratters who live in high-sec systems. They come in mine the resources that the local corp needs for survival, they farm the belts empty of rats. Now lets say there is another Local Corp, this corp helps the mining corp to protect there assets - by shooting hostile pilots, if those are highsec-carebears which are coming cause they overfarmed their own systems - or if those are pvp players which come to gank the local miners. Now is this a Pirate Corp, or is it an Anti-Pirate Corp, fighting PvP or Mine-Pirates?

All right let me help you with something. While you are in your station you can look up all the baddies that is currently wanted by Concord. Now you can go bounty hunting.
You need to understand that not everyone out there that has bounties or a yellow tag are pirates. Some of us actually end up in low sec fighting opposing factions we meet in 0.0 space everyday. And unlike 0.0 space when you bag a bad guy in low sec you get a security hit. And if the other guy is a buutthed, then he can slap a bounty on you, just because.
And all you would see is a from your point of view would be a neg sec guy with a bounty beating the hell out of this other guy who is basically a noob.
And all I am doing is welcoming the little puke to Eve and reminding him he pick the wrong side.

I respect Anti-piracy, as it makes for great competition. However, this game is far from being "controlled" by the pirates. My alt has not once been killed or griefed or ransomed or stolen from (anything more than trivial) or bullied. Yes, this alt sticks to highsec, but isn't low security space supposed to be not as secure? Would I expect to be attacked or ransomed, etc. while there? Absolutely.
So why bother with this call to arms?
1. Ransom Payments: A lot of pirates I know make their money from alts and just pirate for fun. So stopping ransom payments would only boost pirate killboards and waste time for the non-pirates.
2. Protection: I agree on this point. It's probably just better to pack up and move elsewhere.
3. Att4ck t3h Piw4ts: Do ppl actually not attack pirates when they have a solid chance? The only reason I could think you wouldn't is fear of a gank squad, which, by following your plan, would just get you killed anyway. Also, ore thieves are at a dissadvantage if they stick around too long or if they take from anyone not in a noob corp.
4. United Front: Won't happen, period.
So what would this whole plan accomplish other than boosting pirate killboards and giving us more chances to pilfer your hard earned loot? Nothing at all.

I believe that if players banded together we could make a difference. Will it happen? I don't know. But if it did than the scenario would be much different than most would believe. All I can do is try and see what happens. Regardless, I will have alot of fun fighting pirates. And I will ne starting my own corp soon all can come and join and hunt pirates. Regarding bounties, tricky topic to discuss. However, if people research enough they can find all the info needed to know. I play eve my way, others play it their way. The goal is having fun. And I do and will. For some fun is watching pirates go boom. For others it's the bully players going boom. Me, I like both just fine.

There are bigger things to do than kill pirates.

A Hazard is a REALLY good way of putting it! Pirates, such as I, are far from a dominant force, but a hazard worth taking time to respect and develop tactics to deal with. We are far from being a scourge, destroying the game, but instead are a way to keep you on your toes.
Pirates like myself don't play this game to bully and demean others. We play because it's fun.

You know, there isnt that term "lowsec" for nothing. Stay outside low sec if you don't want to get ganked, imo. It's just that simple.
We do not control the full 3000 systems of EVE that are classed as 0.0. We do not control the market with shooting people. We do not control the belts.. (at least I hope for all of u pirates ) etc etc!
We are just at that gate in that part of space where you get a warning for when trying to jump in for the first time. Don't control you or the game. Its your choice to go through that system even with warning, not ours.
It's you who control the game for us. You decide to go in, at your risk.

For u master carebear
define piracy just for u i pulled from the internet
1. hijacking on the high seas or in similar contexts; taking a ship or plane away from the control of those who are legally entitled to it
2. A pirate is one who robs or plunders at sea without a commission from a recognised sovereign nation. Pirates usually target other ships.
Due to the fact they do not spend all their time n a market place doing trading and manufacturing for anyone else.(only for them selves)
so i say kill or be killed Arg!!!! matie what comes around goes aronud even for stinking PIRATES.

Hey itÆs SHOMAMAH!!!! :) But seriously if the game did not have opposing sides donÆt you think it would be like really boring? I mean do you own the only one sided Rubiks cube in the world? LOL Bet thatÆs a great time on Saturday night o.O
No but on a different note did you like overload on the latest Carebear Hillary Duff CD? LOL Had yourself a little one man party with your one sided Rubiks cube blasting Hillary Duff in your underwear laughing at your own posts on the Eve forums? LMAO
Pirates are an inconvenience but an inconvenience that challenges my strategic planning every time I log on. DoesnÆt mean IÆm not down to engage in battle with anyone and hey if that makes me a pirate too so be it. And if itÆs time to throw down with some pew pew on some pirates IÆm down for that too. If it moves and can pack a gun then hereÆs the lock and load!!!

Firstly, what is this underwear you speak of?
Secondly, they aren't "everywhere" you go. They are primarily in low-sec.
Thirdly, I am a little mistified by all the smack you are getting. You didn't whine in the OP or ask to have anyone nerfed. You simply put out a call to arms to fight piracy, a rather non-carebear thing to do IMO. Am I missing something, have you been whining in other threads that I missed? Is that what many of the flamers are responding to?

See above responses for underwear issue. I have seen pirates all over the place. I have other posts with my understandings of most pirates. Yes, there are pirates out there who do a good job of pirating. No bullying noobs, and such. No bragging about how wonderful they are ganking noobs. I respect them. I don't agree with them on pirating but I believe eve would suck with out them. But as I travel around in space I see many pirates who do "pirating" but really cause more problems. But hey, it's a game.

I see, they are responding more to you based on other threads.
I do have to disagree with you with respect to pirates being everywhere. They aren't, I was a dedicated hauler/trader in low sec. I still make the bulk of my isk doing this. Pirates are no issue, once you learn to avoid them. I only got ganked twice, and both times because I got lazy. High sec is pretty much safe from pirates. You still need to fly your ship instead of relying on autopilot if you have valuable goods to avoid the suicide ganks.
I just can't agree that pirate control the game though. They simply don't, they are easily avoided, even in low sec. They might "control" a gate for a period of time, but that is about all.

I, like Shamm, believe there is just too much griefing supported game mechanics.
Nullsec is for the combat PvP'ers with a bit of experiance. Lowsec is supposed to be for the beginner combat PvP'ers with increased rewards for those willing to shoulder a bit of risk.
However, with the capability to tank sentries, lowsec has become purty-much no-sec. If the EvE universe sentries were just as uber as Concord then there would be SOME security in 0.1 thru 0.4, hence "LOWSEC".
Griefing (pirating whatever) would still be viable as you could still tackle targets taking the risk for reward there. And if your intended victim chose to run for the hills and was able to he could find security at the gates and stations. IF he was able to do that, then hey, you lose. If not, you win, gank away. Nerf You! Buff Me!

Very true D. I agree completely. And that is one of the main things I have been trying to say. Since the game won't change, the way to solve the problem is to band together and fight. Make pirates run from us. And they will. Adn the ones that don't, hey, I always did love a good fight.

Again, I think that this whole "piracy is everywhere" idea is blown way out of proportion. Everywhere? EVERY LOWSEC SYSTEM? Hardly. Are 90% of pirates flying ships that can easily tank the sentry guns at gates? I don't believe that either.
There are plenty who pirate in the more mobile (and therefore more vulnerable to sentry guns) ships. Not every pirate is rocking a heavy tanked BS/BC. If you are only finding gate camping, smartbombing carriers in your lowsec, then you may want to try other less crowded region or, for crying out loud, scout ahead. Make a same account alt fly a shuttle around for a few, logout, then come back as your main.
Or give us more killmails and loot. I don't much care. Just don't make piracy out to be this outlandishly huge guy with a massive baseball bat, which is covered in razor blades, which themselves are covered in fire, preying on a daycare center. Seriously, we aren't THAT terrifying.

Every single thing that pirates/criminals/scum do to gank the unaware can be easily avoided. Pirates rely on the mistakes of those they prey on. Fortunately for us there are a lot of people making a lot of mistakes. Blowing people up is not the best way to make isk in Eve but it sure is the most fun. We'll keep on shooting at whoever we can, and we'll get shot in the process. It's all good fun.

Originally by: MASTER SMAMMAH For all those victims of piracy I have this advice.
Your suggestions are feckless, you cannot stop piracy. Its an easy activity and thus will always permeate in the game, its apart of Eve and the fun in it. Just learn to play smart. Start by moving to 0.0, its much safer there. Fly safe and good luck to you.

Personally, I think the balance is about right. If I want almost safe, hi-sec. A little risk, low-sec. Pick the right low-sec system and risk is minimal.
Been ganked a few times, so what. I'm prepared for that. I send off a "good job" in local and proceed on my way in my pod (been lucky there so far). Usually I get back a reply along the lines of, "Wow, you aren't mad at me?" Who knew that deep down even the most hardened pirate has a heart!
If low-sec was "safe", what would be the point. I go there for something different. One of these days I'll even win a fight :)
So pirates, don't go anywhere! You are what keep those low-sec riches oh so tempting to try to reach out and grasp!
Having said that, I hope you all die and get what you all deserve!

I respect your prinicpal of not paying ransoms. However I would like you to explain the cost of this principal in isk. Basically from fitting a ship, paying insurance. Then to replace said ship and all fitting and contents you had just lost.
i.e. you have 200 mil in the bank. You want a raven. How much more money do these folks need to have to replace said raven with all the mods based on your principal.
Your principal may be a good fit for you but there are alot of folks out there can't afford to live by this code.

Don't fly what you can't afford to lose. And if you do, don't expect that bribing the guy who's got you by the short hairs will save your ship and cargo. Ever.
Notice how only the prats are recommending paying of ransoms. Victim after victim pipes up with stories of paying and still being ganked. Heck, even some prats admit it's a coin toss, based on how they feel that day re: honoring a ransom.
ISK won't buy points on a killboard. Keep that in the back of your mind when asked to pay.

The cost of that principle is very low. I've been playing EVE on various characters for 3+ years, being in 0.0 and low sec a large proportion of the time. During that time, I was ransomed a grand total of 1 time and at that time there was a friendly gang nearby so that we could scare off/kill some of the pirates.
The point being, if you watch what you're doing, you can avoid getting into a situation where you would be ransomed very easily most of the time.

Thats not true. i never killed someone who paid his ransom in time, neither has any of my Pirate friends. We all know that People just pay as long as they can trust in us letting 'em go if they do so, and thats why we let them go if they pay. That we dont do that are lies, often told by (newb)anti-pirates to make people not pay us (and die). Why should we cut off our own best way of making isk?

Pirates do bring us closer, so for that I say, thanks pirates. I usually do good avoiding pirates, but it seems a huge percent of people think they can do it without ever being caught by pirates. I believe at some time you will be jumped by pirates. But that's what makes the game. My suggestion of noobs, miners, etc getting together would make pirates start ataying away from the systems were they won't get paid. Take a stand. As for ransoms, I will always encourage not paying. Not because you save money, but because you waste it. If they know you'll pay, they will always get you. Whay find a mark who might not pay when there you are? Will you alwways make more money not paying? No, but in the long term you will save money because you won't be easy to scare.

There is no need to increase sentry fire, camps are laughably simple to avoid. Without the ability to use bubbles or interdictors in low-sec it is very easy to get through as opposed to 0.0. Thus I feel that low sec is a stepping stone to 0.0 from the risk stand point. I do think they should increase the low sec rewards a bit though, better belt rats and ore mainly.

Yust want to post here, this is the funniest Post ever.
One thing i like to say that most of the Pirates I know are extremly good solo and group PVPers, simply because they hunt and kill every day. Even if you have more SP, a better Ship or a bigger Gang you will most likely loose because you won¦t match the experience of a real pirate. And yeah we had some 0.0 Corps coming back to Lowsec. Even if they had the advantage in numbers they lost many ships. Simply because Lowsec PVP != 0.0 PVP while hiding in big Fleets helps. A Pirate can even survive and live in a lowsec with most of the People are red in local, can a Carebear that? I think not. Last most of them are damn funny People Pirate TS >>> Carebear TS. Think of it without them Low Sec would be only a boring empty space between Empire and 0.0.

Well did you get what I mean by skilled PVPer? I bet you only have seen some Gatecamps as you tryed to enter Low Sec. When roaming around Pirates often are solo or in small gangs, simply because if you can kill a ship by your own you will have all the loot for your self. The more people you need to get a Target done the lesser is the outcome to everyone in the gang. It is simple like that.

You are missing the point. I didn't say all pirates aren't very good. Just most compared to non pirates. I believe there are outstanding pvp pirates. Just not in the quantity of non pirates. Are some of the best mercs? Yes. Pirates? Yes. Bounty hunters? Yes. Etc. But on sheer numbers, alot of non pirates are good just from fighting out numbered. Now, I really respect the fact someone can hold their own vs high odds. Good job. I was faced with a situation where I was ratting with some buddies and a crazy guy warps in and starts fighting. Good fight. Took out 3 of us before he left. I was blown up first. Really impressive.

The reason is that pirates always will ransom you for such an amount of isk, that you'd be better off with paying a pirate than having to buy new ship, fitting, insurrance, implants, etc.. It also costs time to gather your new stuff..
Then there are those hardcore anti-pirates who claims that you only fund pirate with paying their ransoms, making them able to keep on camping. Sadly enough it isn't true. Professional pirates like klepto for example won't need ransoms at all... it is more like finding and looting an officer rat in 0.0.
You won't see pirates hanging at gates that arent able to replace their ship in case they die, which doesnt happen anyway but okay..
Regarding the other point.. making a united front to fight pirates, only attracts new pirates. Most anti-pirate low sec fronts are made out of carebear mission runners or whatever. I can tell you, Pirates love them

Thats funny - i had much more solo fights (and kills) since i became pirate..

Damn, and im doing it for the fun.. i knew i was doing something wrong. from now on i promise to not have fun but make profit instead...

Edited by: Ishbuanium on 17/07/2007 13:30:57 Edited by: Ishbuanium on 17/07/2007 13:30:40 Look at it this way, CCP intends for pirates to stay. Hell, they even made a forum called, get this, CRIME and punishment. For me, Crime = Piracy. So, the way I see it, Piracy is going to be here to stay until CCP does something like put CONCORD in lowsec. Until then, all we can do is work against pirates. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on which side you are on), a number of carebears are loners, and many of them lack PVP experience.

Piracy isn't comfined to low/no sec. Maybe you didn't know that. And piracy needs to be in this game. My goal is to help make eve a safer place for non pirates. Hey, it's how I like to play. Pirate killing is what I like to do. It's how I play the game. Everyone plays it their way. Cool. I play it mine others play it whatever way they want. Alot of my issues deals with noob killing and bragging about being "tough". And as I have said many times, not all pirates are weak 1vs1 fighters. Just most. And yes, I believe there are way too many pirates in high/low sec.

Sorry, must have missed thatone? my Abaddon still looks pretty fine. De-Aggressing 120 seconds before DT and getting away from the gate protects your ship from getting killed by gateguns after DT. Your allways welcome to come back and give it another try - you know where im living :)

Not the same thing. 2- You were in 0.0..and by the ship types it tells me you are scouting for you main.

Well, you didn't search good enough. That isn't my issue. I was ganked by klepto in rancer. But, even at that, why can't I give the info I learned to help other players? Just because I am not ganked much doesn't mean I don't have a right to voice what I feel needs to be said. Also, what's wrong with sending an alt scouting? Nothing. Rancer is rumored to be very tough to get through. So are 0.0 space areas. I'm not stupid. Besides, who says it was my alt?

1- All pirates post their kills like wallpaper. And it does not take much to find all the kill boards in a couple of searches. Plus the regions you speak of are Snowy and Klepto, don't think they would bury a kill mail, considering they count each and every one. 2- You can give out what ever experience you wish in this forum..iI dont care. 3- Never said you did not have the right. Just not very qualified. 4- Nothing wrong with sending a scout. I think its a great idea. 5- I just made a suggestion, if you are sending your scout in for you other char...one of them has to be your alt...amirite?
And finally dude...I have done nothing but mess with you this whole time. I am posting in my alt because it gives me anonymity. And I enjoy it. As much as you do. You made your self a target. Whether by accident or by design. So enjoy.

Master Smammah looks briefly at the system gate. Then shrugs as he casually hits the "jump" button. The giant stargate activates, sending his Raven deeper into the cosmos.
Upon entering, he quickly warps to asteroid belt 1-1, only to find a faction spawn! Gleefully, Smammah blasts the faction spawn to pieces, and cries "WOOT" as he scoops some uber faction mods.
Suddenly local starts to fill. More Ravens! Like ants they come marching one by one and then two by two. Eventually the whole system fills up with 10-12 ravens. They all start going thru the belts, popping all the spawns and looting all the loot. However, somewhere the sync of the spawn is broken, and a second raven warps into belt 1-1
"Hey, this is my spawn! IM CAMPING THIS BELT, n00b" exlains Master smammah, who is busy blasting the battleship spawn.
The accused pilot, replies sharply, "I saw it on my scanner first!"
Suddenly the two raven pilots are despesratly trying to kill the spawn first. 20 torps later, it pops. Raven pilot #1 gets the bounty, but raven pilot #2 grabs the wreck.
"NINJA" exlaims raven pilot #1. "IM REPORTING YOU!"
30 odd minutes later a GM shows up. After looking at the two raven pilots, and trying to solve their differences, he finally snaps. "Enough you two, you have to learn to share the spawn, I dont want to have to ban anyone for the weekend"
The GM leaves, going elsewhere to deal with trouble in eve. The two ravens however, still remain in a deadlock in belt 1-1. Eventually raven #2 gives up after refusing to share. "Screwe this game, its a campfest." he says in local. He then logs off and dissapears forever.
Mr smammah, the one who originally aggroed the belt, stays and continues to fight the spawn. Spawn after spawn. Battleship after battleship. His wallet just keeps blinking. Suddenly it reaches a new level. 1 billion! Tomarrow is another day. 3 days later yet a new level. 2 billion isk! "I am advancing!" only 58 more and i can buy a mothership! WEWT! And then i can kill even bigger npcs , and take on level 5s. OMFG am so uber he thinks to himself.
Some many months later, the excited raven pilot hops in his shiney new Wyveran and flies around in it, all geeky that he now owns the most powerful ship in the game. After doing level 5s for several hours, he quickly becomes bored. "theres nothing more to do, I have beaten EVE". Saddened, he logs, and goes off to look for some other mmorpg to play, but not before illegally selling his account on ebay for a large sum of USD. The circle is complete, from the day in an ibis, to his day in the wyveran. Now he has quit and sold his account and moved on. THE CIRCLE IS COMPLETE
------------------------------------------------------
Thankfully, this is a dramatic work of fiction, and not the real eve. The story i tell paints a picture of EVE w/o pvp. A game without risk.
Friends! Step back a moment. Do we really want a risk free game? Do we really want another level treadmill, another WOW clone? Only with ships and stars rather than elves and fairies? Imagine what eve would be without that pirate in local, without that vagabond pumping tech2 autocannon ammo into your hauler's structure.
And then remember, why we play eve.

By fighting most pirates, you will become one. Most pirates are people in cheap frigs with sec +5, that go out to low sec for a while to have a good time , knock their sec status down to 0 and get some kills. They then knock their security status back up to +5 by doing missions. If you are serious about fighting pirates, you will be in a battleship. This type of pirate will not even mess with a battleship, So if you take them out, you will be targeted as a pirate, and shot down by serious bounty hunters. The way the game is set up has made it impossible to eliminate any player type without the total cooperation of allother players in the game.
The only reason this thread didn't imeadiatly die, was the offence pirates took to it. Good luck going anywhere near low sec. You have made yourself known to all pirates, and will be hunted down. And definatly destroyed if you follow the rules in the first post.

Good story. Had a good laugh. But it seems some people don't read the other posts. I said pirates have their place and eve wouldn't be eve w/o them. Now, I won't go into detail because I am sick of having to hold people's hand and explain my rationale. Oh, is that to big of a word? Too bad. Use a dictionary. As to pirates coming my way, not worried. I love eve for it. I am the hunter and teh hunted. And I don't believe an anti pirate is a pirate. And I do have a good laugh at the posts.
