no really it seams like every time I get a skill to level 5 the server goes down. I'm cursed!

So it's your fault.....
<looks sheepishly around> I hear the wolves howles getting closer... I think they found me out!

Yep, this lag is disgusting. How many upgrades you guys' gonna do before you actually do one worthwhile, and if it is the companies fault that you go through, you should seek better service. Just like people here will be doing if it persists. I know it can't be perfect, don't get me wrong, but this is far from normal. Lag has gotten worse with every patch. Less features, more fixes.
Just open another live server and be done with it.
PS: Sony ruins every game they buy, period. This is a known fact. Every single game they have was better in BETA.

LMAO, you don't know you're born.
I've been without an internet connection for four months and missed three months of skill training on three accounts.
I just spent the last two hours downloading the 30mb patch over a crappy dial up connection so that I can finally change skills. Kick a man when he's struggling to get up or what?

with the server being based in london be thankful its even getting fixed as we speak... its 2:30AM here
Umm *cough* BS *cough*
You really dont know how the IT world works do you? It doesnt matter if its Monday at 12:30 in the afternoon or Saturday at 3:00 in the morning. When your equipment goes down you get your ass out of bed and fix it yesterday or you get fired.
So no, I'm NOT glad the equipment is getting fixed. Its SUPPOSED to be getting fixed. Its their JOB (The network guys) to fix the equipment when it breaks.
I dont thank people for doing what their supposed to do. I dont thank my cashier for ringing up my groceries, I dont thank my bank for sending me statements and I wont thank CCP for maintaining its network.
That said....
I do my fair share of on call to support networks too.
To the CCP Network guys. I'm sorry. I know what its like to get paged out in the middle of the night to fix things. Its a crap thing to have to deal with. So you dont have my thanks, but you do have my sympathy!

We had a problem with the contracts system again. It maxed out the SQL Server CPU. I was on it with in 6 minutes of it happening. 5 minutes for the CPU load alert to go off, 1 minute for the GMs to page me and me getting to the computer and hook up to London. But as we found out after trying to fix it that it was already too late.
I called the other operations database admin and we attempted to fix the problem live. But our fixes didn't work as the server was already way behind on its processing of requests from the EVE server processes.
A shutdown was initiated at ~1:20, the server was down at ~1:30. During the short downtime, I ran scripts to optimize the problematic tables and forced a proper query plan for the bad procs.
The server was up at 01:49:54 and was accepting connections 10 minutes later. Due to startup load, we limited logins to begin with but the limit was fully lifted at 2:08. ------ Valar Database admin - Server operations team CCP Games |

Yay for CCP responses! Thanks for telling us what went wrong Valar, much appreciated. I don't imagine a lot of other games would do the same. --- We sell ships! Contact me ingame for prices on Drakes and Myrmidons. Also looking for ore or mineral suppliers around The Citadel region! |

Thank you very much for the clean and rapid reply. I think this problem is good and done and we can move on now.
CCP please continue to respond to these problems in that way in the future. It aids morale greatly and to an extent aids in cooling down any issues the community has on CCP PR.

This was partially the contracts system and most likely partially due to the market history cache being flushed at midnight. That combination is deadly. ------ Valar Database admin - Server operations team CCP Games |

CCP Thread Hijack!
But anyways, the problem is with your client or ISP. Try connecting from a different ISP, and try reinstalling EVE. Maybe check if ports are being blocked.

Well, since I'm the one that started the thread, heh, or are you saying that CCP hijacked my thread?
So, which port number do you think it might be? I've had a lot of experience with computers, but rarely ever had to mess with the ports.
Thanks.

indeed!!!! i wish they took the time to answer the same way some rampant issues like "what happens with tactical shield manipulation 5", "why we dont have a proper skill queue yet" "why were faction ships overlooked when the general CPU and power rebalance" or "how can it be that the same bug can be found on 3 or 4 consecutive patches and still make it to the known issues page everytime"
it wont take them more than 2 minutes each, and would cause the same state of wellness that this valar response caused.

CCP hijacked your thread. You should petition!
And a search on the forums seems to indicate port 26000. |

Hey Valar,
any plans on switching new market or contract queries off if there is a huge backlog? This way players might need to wait a few minutes in tight situations, but the server could stay up and you could optimize the DB statistics at more suitable times.
