Hi, I curently fly a myrm with this setup:
hi: 3*med nos (t1)/3*electron t2 blasters (cruiser size, can't remember the name :P ) med: 1*10mn mwd (the named one)/med electrochem injector (with 800)/2*web/1*scram low: 2*med t2 rep/3*active hard (expl/kin/term)/1*t2 DC
I use t2 Ogres as the primary dmg source. Curently i don't have any rigs on this ship. The ship is used for solo pirate work .
A bit about myself: when i am bored i have a tendency to test my skils and ship agains impossible ods/situations:P, which sometimes proves to be quite nasty to my ships.
The question is where to go from here? Should i pimp my ride with some rigs and/or faction stuff (core reppers, db nos, domination web spring to mind), or change it and go with something else (domi, mega [without large t2.. not far but not yet there], brutix...)?
I like flying something smaller then a BS as that causes many ppl to underestimate u and engage first under sentry fire (you would be surprised how many ppl do that).
Any input is wellcome.
P.S. excuse my grammar

Dominix for more firepower, Ishtar for more versatility, Eos for more tank and gank at the cost of skill intensity. But all of them will loose the element of suprise.
Where do you have problems as it is, does your tank fail? Does your victim warp off due to being to fast or orbiting outside webrange? Can you not scram them fast enough as you warp in 28km away in the belt?

Regarding myrm limitations: -I've been outnossed by a nos domi and another myrm (thankfuly i had the sentrys on my side that time and won [also they were noobs i think])--- faction nos won't really help me against bs sized opponents as my 15km range is still under the 25km of theyrs(sp?).
-I almost died to an astarte which did way more dps then my tank could rep (finaly won due to me nossing him).
ATM my tactic is to go in close, double webb and pound with drones and void while nossing the victim.
If i go for faction web and nos i could probably stay at range which has a major drawback imho, it leaves my ogres exposed to webb and death. Then i would also have to change my guns as med blaster range << 14 km.
I am considering getting a talisman set to improve my nossing amount...
EDIT: if i would be stinking rich there wouldn't be a problem as i would just pimp my current ride but as isk is a limiting factor (and a preaty big one) i have to prioritize (sp?)...

Myrmidon is fine.
Use a Dominix if you need a bit more buffer. Use a nano-Ishtar if you need the speed. Use an Eos for OMFG tank-of-doom and style. _______________

That fitting will work very well in most situations.
From there if u like the ship i would try sticking a couple of rep amount rigs on it. with bc 4 or 5 and a couple of those the rep amount is staggering. Faction reppers make it even more secsi.
I believe a pg rig with a few faction goddies also allows u to fit ions or better instead of electrons should you fancy it.
Ships wise from there if you like the way the myrm flies which i presonally do i'd go towards the eos. Basically the same ship with much better resists and better fitting. Plus you can carry loads of spare drones and it looks well nice.

Edited by: AsfALT on 16/07/2007 14:51:50 My greatest fear atm is that of stumbling on some ship that dose huge amounts of dmg and kills me before my noses start to make a difference. It seems that the rep amount rigs will be next on my shopping list and the eos req skills right after i finish drone interfaceing to 5 (20 days left lol ) so probably 3 months untill "EOS day" .
I will have to play with Qf (sadly i am at work atm waiting for something hence my rapid responce rate ) and see if a pg rig could bring some improvement to my setup.
Now regarding the domi, is that ship capable of breaking a multy (well 3-4 not 20:P) bs gatecamp if fitted for max tank and targeted at the current agroed ship?. If so i might consider getting one just for that .
EDIT: Oh and thenx for the replys so far, keep them comming. :)

As always, dephends on situation, on pilots and skills. If whould exist a BS that can always kill 3-4 BS hopponents, it will be immediatly nerfed to hell with some reason. That said, the domi is one of the most feared close range pvp bs. It can tank like hell, and with 6 heavy nos can also drain a huge ammount of usefull cap. It's an excellent ship ( if u have hi drone skills), but dont expect to be untouchable. Nobody is.

The great thing about the domi is that if ur using nos then u need no damage mods so all 7 slots can be for tank. Plus a nos, cap injected domi has all the cap it needs to run an active twin rep tank.
Using something like this can easily tank 2-3 bs for a time obviously hugely depending on what the bs are, how they are fitted and the pilots skills.
2 x LAR II Exp, Therm, Kin t2 hardeners eanm II dmg ctrl II
2 rep amount rigs 1 rep cycle time rig
tanks like a be atch!
The only downside of a domi is lock time and agility compared to a myrm.

Edited by: slothe on 16/07/2007 18:00:06 tbh i prefer the myrmidon to the eos, the eos lacks the drone bonus that makes it so nice.
ishtars fun, but no better than the myrmidon, just different.
dominix , similar, but what you gain in damage you lose in agility.
so what to do from where you are...
Pimp it !!
faction disruptor / web makes the most difference tbh.
then whatever else you can afford.
n.b. id personally use 1 web, 1 dampner in the myrm.
the dampner increases lock time - that makes it harder for the opponent to kill drones as they take ages to lock. - just a thought

I stand prety firm that the Myrm is the best bang for your isk and since you like to test yourself against impossible odds that should be a quality you look for as i'm sure you end up losing quite a few ships.
Focus on your rep ammt as getting BC 5 and using dual t2 reps realy reps an amazing ammount.
As far as rigs are concerned they definitly help alot but you have to figure in that you like to test yourself against impossible odds so It may not exactly be very cost effective for you to use alot of rigs of course if you have alot of cash go for the rep ammt ones or maybe pg rigs to suppliment drone damage with some bigger blasters.
From the sound of things you like to pvp in empire space (you refer to sentry fire) and in that case tanking is the best thing to focus on if you frequently find yourself fighting with the assistance of sentry fire, you realy only need to hold them in place and last while assisting the sentrys dealing damage. I never initiate combat in empire space for the sole reason that sentry guns like to pop drones right away and that sorta kills a Myrms DPS. ------------------------------- C.D's Formula for success ------------------------------- Credit Card = Game Time Card Gametime Card = ISK Therefore Credit Card = ISK.

Sadly i am not that rich so losing a lot of rigged ships will hurt me quite bad but i will build a gate camping, indi busting, brutix to finance my losses (or so i hope it will:P ).
I operate 90% of the time in low sec, and many times i provoke ppl to try and kill me pretending to be afk slow boating to the gate and stuff like that:P, but not allways.
If i consider i have a chance (as slim as it may be) i will fight anywhere (belts planets... not moons for obvious reasons). Considering this i need dps to be able to kill a target myself and also a bit of speed/tackling ability to hold them in place.

Please elaborate as from my POV a 15 km webb won't really help me that much. Then again i never used one so my thoughts on how one is used may be lacking :).
A 24 scram is nice and i am going to use a t2 (as i remeber i have the cpu to fit it)
I am using 2 webbs cose i want to be sure that what i catch won't run away and i need to keep a minimal trans to hit with void.
Thnx for all your replys guys, the more opinions the better (i can make an educated choice then)
BTW: any drake that thinks it can kill a myrm is so wrong... (considering relatively equal skill levels)

Exactly the same setup on my Myrm, where to go from there..... max out the skills i imagine, BC5 ect. Not sure about rigs, i use a lot on my BS's but i wouldn't fit one on a BC unless T2. thats just me, i'm tight fisted It is a supprisigly good ship though, untill your drones are popped then your buggered

I know its not a gallente weapon, but whats about autocannons?
I played with your setup in quickfit and I could mount 3 425th autocannons. I dont know if they do more or less damage than the electron blaster ( It think they do more ) but they do not need any cap so you could tank longer.

/signed. Keep going into the myrmidon. Rig it up but don't use expensive faction gear. I got my myrmidon maxed out and can usually beat any BS in a 1vs1.
I haven't flown a myrmidon a a while though, usually stick with BSs because the myrmidon against multiple BS can easily be a bad thing. At the time it did fly it all the time however, I'd take it up against just about any Dominix when I had the chance.
Think I had about 5-6 engagements against a domi and only 1 of those domi actually bested my myrm. Just depends on what the domi is set for, all nosf with dual LAR and the myrm can beat it if the skills are there. 4 heavy nosf, 2 medium neut on a domi and it's gonna be a fight like a hammer vs a nail.
the domi to side, most other BS are easy if done right, but leaves little room for error. On gun boats, avoid the tracking... Tracking disruptor had become a standard module for me. Ravens.... they lack damage to break the tank and torps do less damge due to smaller sig radious. Your not gonna have to worry about a painter on a raven in most cases. Even then, it would take a mean torp raven to put out enough damage.
The biggest thing is the skills. Max skills for a myrmidon can go along way. Most people that are in PVP don't have max skills for thier BSs.. Don't misunderstand that though, there are tons of people and PVPers with max BS skills. It's just that for every max skilled pilot, there are 20 low skilled pilots. Your odds of going against the better rather low.
As for expensive faction gear. Having a corpum tank that can withstand more damage than a Dual LAR II Hyperion might be impressive at first, but when you have no drones and no way of killing the ship your fighting.... well, minds change real fast. After all, It's still just a battlecruiser. -------------------------------------- ---"What's in your wallet?"--- "There are two kinds of respect, fear and admiration.... I'll take what I can get" |

Good point to be fair. In a fight a few weeks ago against a drake he was trying to pop my drones, he got one before i could retrieve/launch style fight (which i hate) I reckon the fight could have gone all day!
p.s i brought my alt out to finish the job in the end i was getting bored and didn't want to let him go

Next step will be to train my rigging skills up a bit to get minimal drawback and then bc lvl5 (going for command ships in theory as in practice it will take a looong time :P ).
Now regarding rigs, what is better: 2*nanopumps or 2*trimarks aka rep amount vs buffer?
You said that you faught many domis and cam out on top, i am rather scared of facing one. Only time i did, it was accompanied by a nos myrm and i had to inject cap to be able to web and scram them (the sentrys were on my side tho and I won )
Are you guys sure about the drake? even with Ogre 2? Can't a good nos timing keep his hardeners off?
5*Ogre 2 with another 150(?)dps from the blasters is quite alot... Never faught one that was well setup...

Well, Eos have advantage of being able to replace drones. Every time i fly myrmi, I never let my drones go more then 10-15km at most. In gangs if you need to get out quickly it may become even more complicated since once you loose drones, gang looses pretty much 1 ship worth of damage.
Ishtar yeah, doesnt seem like any HACs different from Tier 2 BCs, maybe vagabond, but they (hacs), certainly have alot more fitting options.

You need a well setup blasterdomi doing around 600dps to take a well-setup passive drake out. And passive drakes are passive, hence the hardeners don't need cap. Even with ogre 2's (and assuming the drake don't pop them) the myrm won't be able to get 600dps, especially not if it's damage is spread out over 2 damage types (eg blaster setup).
A nos setup myrm would lose it's ability to get cap from the drake (since it can work without it), then it would just be a question of when the myrm runs out of cap-charges before it can't tank any more.
However, since the drake won't have any cap either at this point it will not be able to tackle, so you can run away.

you could go for the domi next and then maybe a curse (i'd go faction 30km range )as that means you stay with drones so more specialisation into drones. Drone interfacing 5 would help a lot --------------------------------------------- no sig for you !!! |
