Edited by: DubanFP on 16/07/2007 15:20:32 This is a place where you can recount your stories about how newbish you were when you first joined EVE.
I remember when I was on my first trial I thought it was awsome that this guy was in this awsome harpy running level 2 plexes X-/. He bragged about how sometimes the overseer would drop goods worth a whopping 10 mil!! "i've gotton several 200 mil loot drops since, even one worth about 500 mil". That and i thought it was awsome when a rat dropped a worm BPC "~20 mil".
Then there was the time i spent in low-sec lol. I used to make fun of all the pirates who tried to attack my osprey. I even told one who i knew was trying to kill me how many stabs i had fit "big mistake". Sure enough boom.
What about your days as a newb? ________________

I remember the days when i was all excited i had made a million isk. Oh how things change. About 5 days into my trial i tried to attack a pirate that was in a cruiser with a poorly fitted frig, there was only one outcome, my first loss.
Thats probably one of my first great memorys of this game

5 minutes after i arrived i got killed by hostiles..

Went to 0.0 with my brand new Thorax (no insurance) did a bit of hunting and when i was heading back i promptly ran into 2 scorps camping the gate back to low sec (Jim Raynor and Drax is still remember you guys). They wanted 10mil which i didnt have and i was stupid enough trying to shoot at them and go for the gate. Was back in station befor i realised what happend and had to use my frig again to mine.
Messing with 2 scorps in a thorax, argh stupid.

Too many n00b things to recount in full here, but proabably the biggest was finally building my first bs, fitted it out as best I could given my bare minimum skills for flying a 'thron and using large guns etc.
Headed for 0.0 thinking "I am immortal"
Dived into the first npc swarm (no npc bs's back then, what could half a dozen serp cruisers do to me?)
Floated back to empire in my pod hoping noone would see me.
Headed back to Adeel and started mining in my 'rax all over again..

I asked the player why he had a bunch of ore in these cans. He explained jet can mining to me. I then took all the ore I could out of his cans and flew back to the station, he was ****ed, lol.

The first time I got podded was traumatic. I was flying around in my Caracal collecting all the modules to fit it, one of them was in 0.4 space and I ran into a gate camp of eight people from a certain alliance . I just saw an explosion, my fps dropped and I was in a station wondering what happened.
I came very close to rage-quitting at that point. ----------

Others.... Heading Into Great Wild Lands 20 jumps to pick up one of the few Tempest BP copies available & Blue Prints of Large Ammo. Travelling to the same trading Pyreite , making 5isk per piece, Hauling 15 Jumps repetedly in an un-escorted Mammoth. PF-346 Being Fun For Killing NPC's in Peace. 5000 players being a a lot on at 1 time. Hunting Great Wildlands, and trading runs in same mammoth to sell ammo.

One of my worst noob moments was when i decided to go ratting in my brand new thorax (rails and shield tank). The spawns were a bit different at that time as the respawn rate would steadily increase over time if you left one of them alive (no despawns at all). Killed about 80 frigs or so and was in a really good flow, totally happy with locking + F1-F5. Then i ran out of ammo and the containers of the destroyed frigs were littering the belt so much i constantly bumbed into them and couldnt warp out. With constant use the med shield booster drained my cap pretty fast and shortly after that i was heading back home in my pod.
Today i always pack some extra ammo and have an eye on how much is left when hunting or roaming.

I almost shat myself when I saw the "1" on the security rating, not noticing that there was a lack of a decimal point in front of it
Mind you, these were the good old days when some ****er with a Tempest and some sensor boosters could instantly kill a shuttle or a frigate beyond gate gun range and without any hope of retaliation.

Taking on 3 battleships in my torpedo blackbird and thinking I won because I didn't die.
Zooming around in a duel/tripple MWD standard launcher fitted raven spewing cruise missiles unable to be touched by any other battleships thinking they all sucked at eve.
Finding a mine field for the first time and flying into it to see what happens when a kestrel hits about a 100 mines in 10 seconds.
Dropping 1000's of mines in empire and not knowing that my security status takes a hit for every time someone hit my mine.
Getting concorded because I shot missiles at a war target in a fast frigate that knew if he hid behind a station. he knew concord would do his job for him when the missiles impacted the station. Fear the Ibis of doom!

Hehe. Here a nice story.
Back in Bourynes August 2003. Mined the bloody hell out of the stones. After 5 months or so (I did NOT trained the learning skills) I quit.
1 1/2 years later all corp mates gone and I joined a well known german corp (was 2005 or so) GCDC. I arrived in Curse and want to mine a bit. Put my Harvesting drones out and mined. After the BS spawn cames in I warped out and forgot my drones. Now this drones had cost back in 2003 80 k ISK. But in 2005 its worth was about 8 Million ISK 8-)) So I lost like 80 Million ISK in dumbness
Hope you enjoy it 8-)) Where is my Tech III Ice Harvester??? |

I just joined the game, and I'd made a horrible starting character (high char, ugh) and so a friend of mine helped me through character creation a second time after about a week, so that I'd have decent atribs and starting skills.
He then gave me 5 million isk to start me off with a nice little frigate and to buy some skills. This was very kind of him and because I'd been warned profusely about the dangers of getting podded without a clone... I spend 4.6 of that 5 mil on the best clone I could get... with about 320K skillpoints :) ----

O yea and working for almost a week on lvl2 missions just to get 3mill to get a blackbird...when now anyone in 0.0 can make that with one spawn O.o

Spent the first two weeks greedily "holding on" to my initial 80k sp I think it was. I didn't want to "spend it" until I knew what I should "spend it" on, or until I figured out how to earn more of them.

I remember in the first couple of weeks of joining there was a pirate corp (was it Zombies?) sitting at a gate in Yulai, ganking all the noobs and tanking all Concord's attempts to destroy them. All the buzz in local and in the systems surrounding Yulai was quite amusing.
Sadly almost that entire corp got banned for their fun, which I think is somewhat harsh even to this day as they weren't using any exploits. -- Polaris Lumine

they were right to be banned, i had a run in with zombie inc, thats the corp that did the yulai massacre and some of the talk was absolutely horrific, they were saying they wanted to do things to my relatives and all sorts of aggressive threats, they were an evil bunch of players that brought nothing good to the game, good riddance.

haha, these are great.
I remember when I was new, a few things:
1.) Not understanding how SHIELD BOOSTERS work (!!!). I would turn on my 3 or 4 civilian shield boosters before a fight even started, because I thought I needed to activate them ahead of time. Not even sure what it was I thought they did.
2.) Running out into low sec once I could afford my first Badger II, and finding a system in the upper reaches of Caldari space where Silicon (NPC good) was bought and sold on the NPC market in the same system. This is while I was training my learning skills, someone told me the earlier I do it, the better, so I did it before I could get in a cruiser (and almost quit the game because of it, I was so bored). The only thing I did other than logging in to change skills was to buy silicon at X per unit from one station, and then ferry it in my badger II with 3x Civilian cargo expanders to another station in the same system to sell for (X * 1.2) per unit, after which the market would reset, but I'd be 1M richer PER DAY!!!!
Wow.
Man, I love this game.

Back when I was the single most incompetent pirate in Decisive Outcomes, I was very proud of my nice Incursus fit with all the clever ewar strategy that I'd designed, and merrily pursued another frigate through 4 jumps. It was then that I discovered that he was flying an assault frigate, and that he was truly a gentleman, for he allowed me to scurry away.
In the process of doing so, I discovered an industrial on afk autopilot. At last! An opportunity to make a kill! I chased him through the gate, locked him, activated my warp scrambler... and learned a rather important lesson about PVP in lowsec.

Had that one, too.
My RL friend who got me into eve said "We gotta teach you how to kill people before we bring you out to 0.0" so he hopped into his buzzard, and I hopped into my just-able-to-fly brand new ferox, and we went and shot a miner in 0.4.
I was at work at the time, and I was ... in awe of the rush. The rush of me killing a mining cruiser in my pvp fitted ferox, which was a very one sided fight, still left me reeling.

I outfitted my first pirating frig two days into the game.
It had a scram, a web, and a nos, all of which seemed very piratey, it also had a small shield booster for tank.
So I set my autopilot to a nearby low sec system, so far so good.
Once there I spot a hauler in a belt, so I lock, get the aggression warning, click OK and start firing / nossing / jamming / webbing.
I'm chewing through his shields and then suddenly...
LAG!!!!!!!!!!!
And I'm in a pod, surrounded by concord. Turns out I was in an 0.5 system which I thought was the beginning of low sec, being yellow. Oops.
I then talk with the guy I shot who informs me I now have killrights on him for stealing from my wreck and explains that I am now free to attack him.
Determined to get revenge I go back into 0.6 where I had my destroyer docked, undock and... lag again. I was still flagged.
Two valuable lessons in five minutes.

I still am a noob but the biggest mistake I've made so far is training up repair drone operations and shield emission systems because I wanted to use medium shield maintenance bots on myself. After all the training I took them out and found out the hard way you just cant target yourself. *sigh*
I thought I had found a way to get the shield back on my armor tanking Domi in between mission phases. Oh well, at least I have a head start on some support skills.

WAY back in the day, top named stuff was really expensive. And by expensive I mean 7-8 mill for a good tech1 named damage mod.
I tried to sell a Magnetic Vortex Stabilizer for top prices and got called a scammer...
Because I failed to notice that it did not have a "I" on the end of it.
And then there was the day I found out that Angel cruisers would warp-scramble while ninja-mining Ark in Ennur. I had no idea.
