It says nothing at all how this work is done, especially not by how many people. Furthermore it says nothing if the work could be divided well to be done by many people or if lot of serial work is necessary (like in housebuilding: you cannot build roof before you have the walls and you cannot paint walls before you have a roof etc.)
In any case, 80 man-years is a nice heap of work
What she said
lol, person-hours. PC-ness is lame. Perceptions need to change, not terms and names.
So a man-year is figured as the work a person does in about 52, 40 hour work weeks. Good to know.
Doesn't make much sence to me though, as man-hours are figured as the actual amount of time worked by everyone involved. Then again it was probably coined by someone in management.
Anyway, that's a lot of work and we thank you all for the effort.

I'm not trying to troll, I seriously don't understand why this isn't done. It seems like an easy fix to a very painful problem.
Because there are good Level 4 Caldari agents in other locations already?
Saila will be dealt with though, amongst other things, moving agents from there, creating even more agents otherwere. The main problem with Caldari is that it's the most populated race with almost the least amount of area.
Cant they invade somewhere ? like Geminate and Vale of the Silent - might be as interisting to see the player reaction on this "feature" as it is to watch the last Chronotis Dev-blog.
On a more serious sidenote. cant they find some wicked stargates floating around and invade that new space thats beeing found behind em ? or grab some of the gallente/amaar/Minmatar Systems, and decide they wanna seed this new space with noob recloation areas ? :P "This post represents my personal views and not those of my corp or alliance." - wait a second, i am the CEO, ofcourse they do !!! |

As far as I know ambulation was never meant to be ready for RevIII.

Sounds pretty sweet, bug fixes good.
Any possibility that there will be improvements to the sound engine?(particularly with realtek chipsets) So I can do crazy things like play with sound enabled / use eve voice? ------ I am in blood! Stepp'd in so far that, should I wade no more, it would be as tedious as going over. -MacBeth |

It's my understanding that ambulation is being created for CCP's WoD MMORPG, and that they will "plug in" the ambulation engine into eve when it's done, some time in the distant future.
I'm not quite sure how well vampires will handle space though. Wouldn't they burst into flames when they get near a star? ------ I am in blood! Stepp'd in so far that, should I wade no more, it would be as tedious as going over. -MacBeth |

Will the new engine be multithreaded?
Will it still pause every other second while it has a good long think about what to put in the overview?

It would be too bad if Revelations III doesn't offer new mechanics, toys and things to do. But considering what Revelations I and II have brought sofar and the impact a new graphics engine will (may? should?) have on performance, I'm willing to look the other way...
What has me more worried is whether CCP is paying enough attention to game mechanical problems, with all this focus on the client. A faster gfx engine won't fix blobbing, macro mining or PvE boredom and won't make POS more interesting targets. And frankly, I couldn't care less about Vista or DirectX 10.
As far as IGB table rendering goes: try a page layout with less nested tables and less cells :)
Greetings, Grismar.

Yeah because it worked so well last time and didn't grind the game down to a halt with people dropping them on ten man gangs for ****s and giggles.

Any chance of fixing the Caldari railboat line please?
The Ferox and Moa in particular need +1 or +2 turrets. The Eagle, Vulture, Merlin and Hookbill would also benefit from an additional turret, without eclipsing their Gallente counterparts in a close-range role, because of their small drone bays and high mass.

Will the Trinity engine be Vista/DX10 only or be available on XP and/or DX9 Cards?
Also for the record, some of us have no idea what:
Originally by: CCP Oveur We've been adding millions of dollars of hardware every year, just recently replacing our Database cluster with new IBM X-SERIES 3950 with 64GB RAM, IBM DS4800 storage array and another magnificent beast, a TMS RAMSAN, taking us to 256GB of solid state disk storage on the database layer. We're now running at 18% CPU utilization on peak hours.
means. Bottom line, will the trinity engine improve the lag and desync issues?
One other aspect of Eve you seem intent on ignoring. The ongoing customer service issues or more precisely, the lack of customer service. When's this going to be addressed?

Graphics updates will be very sweet. :) I think you guys should start putting out screenshots of the new engine as soon as you can. It has to be pretty much ready now if you are going to put it out at the end of the year... ---

Thank you very much for this. The graphic upgrade will be pretty sweet, EvE, already looks good. I will say that of the 3 changes you suggest, drones is the most needed one. Please give drones love, Heat is..... ok atm, and invention is a little better than ok. Drones are just plain bugged, I want them to do what I tell them!!!
Anyways, looks good, thanks for the update. -----------

Edited by: Fokmie on 15/08/2007 02:15:45 I dont know how many people in here that have high experience with coding, electronic and all this crap stuff.... Anyhow, they main problem CCP have today isnt realy on the server side, (some but) they are all based on one final thing... More people shoud do the same as me and a few others and that is writing a E-MAIL to CCP in iceland telling them they realy need to start from BOTTOM... and up again..
This game is starting to be what?... 6 Years old form early beta testing.... and the code that is been use on the client and on the main server is almost twice that age.... CCP need to make a completly NEW client from bottom start, and aswell update the base code on the server. The code is to old to handel the preshure fast enought that is going on in this fantastic LARGE game. Its going to take time, money and some more to get that done, but if they realy go in on it something like that shoud be done in 3-4 month's sins they have the platform and the knowlage of the game.
Ontop of this... CCP is using freeking Microsoft DB systems... wtf?... There is ALOT more things out there that is better. CCP have a Database downtime that is close to 100h pr year... ONLY for maintaning... + all the crashes etc... Oracle only need 2-3h pr Year DT, and craches NEVER...
Microsoft have a strong platform of support and easy to get hold of, other DB systems are stronger, cost more etc, but gives 15-20 times better performance and yeh... you need some more experience with it.. but **** sake.. CCP have the money to do all this....
If the DB is new, new client and new code on the server, this game is not even CLOSE to laggy anymore even if the size dubble's
