Edited by: Charisi Avoaty on 14/08/2007 08:58:55 I left the game for about a year and just came back, not an hour ago. I'm out and about, flying around trying to figure out what in the hell I'm doing, when I get podded by two wonderfully nice individuals. Even after repeated begging to not kill me as I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, I get killed anyway. Now I remember why I left in the first place. There is no way to get ahead in this game as a new player. Those that have been playing for years won't let you get ahead.
What's even the point to continue playing? I had a fairly decent ship, (a Prophecy), with some decent weapons, and now I have the crappy little starter ship and maybe 2k ISK to my name. My ship insurance ran out while I was gone of course, and I did not know it had even run out in the first place, so no money to buy a ship.
It is utterly ridiculous that a new player, (or old returning player), can't even fly around for a few minutes to try and figure out how to play again, without getting podded by a couple of morons with nothing better to do.

Did you fly around lowsec to get your bearings on the game again? If so, did you read the warning you got when you jumped in? Stick to highsec for a while until you're back on your feet.

You want my honest opinion? You have only yourself to blame for putting yourself in that position.
- No ship insurance. - Going to low sec or 0.0 without knowing what you're doing.
I know it sounds harsh, but this is all your fault.

Free insurance payout is 40%. So you have at least enough for a cruiser. Going to lowsec was your fault - it is the primary pirate area. Highsec (0.5+) is vast and was created so players would have the safety you claim to desire, yet you left that safety, died and now come here whining. Pfft, I say.
Also, what games have you been playing where many of the people aren't scum? I'd really like to know, since I have never seen any since the internet was created.

Edited by: Charisi Avoaty on 14/08/2007 09:10:32 Well for one, if you had read my post, you would have seen that I didn't know my insurance had run out in the first place. It took me 10 mins to figure out how to auto pilot to a space station a couple jumps away to get all my stuff. While I was autopiloting, I was just starting to go down all the tabs to figure out what they were. I make a jump while going through my skills to try and figure out what to learn next, when BAM BAM BAM, I'm dead. All the numbers and crap listed in the upper right meant absolutely nothing at the time as, gee, I don't know, I HAD NO IDEA WHAT I WAS DOING! I mean, it was all starting to come back, but rather slowly.
As far as playing mmos where people are scum, yes, there are many in every game out there. It's just so far, all the people I have seen in game and on this thread especially have all been as you describe, "sucm", with the exception of the first reply in this thread. He was actually trying to be encouraging, and constructive, (at least that is how I took it), while everyone else immediately turned on moron mode and started flaming.

Yes, the EVE community is one of the most sociopathic and scummy of all MMORPGs.
If you'd played enough to be flying a Prophecy before you left then you'd know that. You'd also know that there's no such thing as 100% safe space and that low/no sec is extremely unsafe.
Also the mechanisms of insurance including the (still unfixed) bug that you don't get an "insurance expired" mail until you actualy check your insurance haven't changed in the last year, since you left.
All of these are, indeed, things you should have known and have no excuse for not knowing. Plus you forgot the PRIMARY RULE of EVE....
NEVER fly anything you can't afford to lose.

You're still not understanding me.
- Who's fault is it that you didnt know your insurance ran out? - Who's fault is it that you went to 0.0 or low sec without paying attention? - Who's fault is it that you dont know what the numbers or stats mean?
Eve is a game that forces you to accept responsibility for your stupid actions. You just made a few mistakes and now you have suffered the consequences. Why are you blaming the people who just play the game the way its meant to be played?
I can understand if your first post was just to vent your frustration, but now you're pushing it... ---

CCP's shoddy documentation. Trial by error isn't a good way to learn in a game where you can lose everything and thus be unable to play in an instant. [ insert fancy sig here ] |

I'd put my money on an ebay'd character by this guy to be honest.
a) He would of noticed/known that he would get 40% FREE insurance even if his previous had ran out. and B) he would of known about lowsec/highsec and 0.0 even if he had not played for a while. Duncan Bannatyne

1.Go throw the tutorial, it helps. 2.Read the new player section. 3.Stay out of 0.0. or low sec. its not that they are scum or not for them your either a threat or pray even the nicest persons will kill u if go into their territory un announced.
4. learn to walk before you fly, get a noob ship or make an alt, try every thing there, it helps a lot, learn how to run hide, make safe spots and set book marks in your alt and ull be ok.
5. eve has one of the best community for new players, so read before you flame every one dude.
6. go to the recruitment channel and ask for a corp that will help u out, thy will take step by step to where u want.

a) you got a mail telling you that insurance ran out b) you get a pop up warning telling you that your are entering lowsec c) read the patch notes before login in so you would have known about warp to zero (instead of autopilot) d) never fly a ship you can't afford to loose (and that isn't a new rule!!) e) You are never safe anywhere in EVE.
i'm sorry that you were ganked but the information needed to prevent it was accessible to you, you just didn't make use of it.
I know EVE can be a difficult game to get a hang of and it's actually quite impossible by try and error so you should rly read all the information you can BEFORE undocking. If you can't deal with getting killed and loosing **** then maybe WoW or something like that is a better choice for you. |

He could have avoided everything if he had bothered to activate his brain (if he has one). That is what makes EVE good, that you will get punished if you mindlessly jump in. Even when I was a n00b I did not make such stupid mistakes as this rolemodel carebear.
If you want to play a game that does not require you to think, EVE is not for you. Thank god.

I haven't played Minesweeper for a while so I decided to play it for a bit to see if it's still fun. Imagine my disgust when I clicked a square and found a mine underneath
It is utterly ridiculous that a returning player cannot just click a few squares without being blown up by a mine (presumably placed there by a fat virgin who lives in his mum's basement).

Either way (bugged or not feature) the insurance has a LIMITED time of 12 weeks. If one is out for 1 year and comes back, he/she should know that the insurance has expired. If he/she has ever played the game of course.

The truth can sometimes be difficult to accept. Doesnt mean im not helping. If its ccp's poor documentation that made this happen, how come thousands of newbies doesnt make the same mistakes? Because they dont have a shiny tech 2 ship before they know how the game works. They may lose a few frigs while learning, thats it.
Im not much for blaming ccp or the players when its this specific player that made some huge mistakes, and then come here crying about the community treating him badly, refusing to accept his huge part in this happening in the first place.

I suppose this is another example of Eve's winning formula. It weeds out the weak better than first-year calculus.
And seriously, the game continues to be easier for new players. When I started I had a whopping 30,000 skillpoints. Nowadays...well, you all know. Not to mention warp-to-zero. My first few months in the game were plagued by constant bookmarking and copying. Bleh.

That's the beauty of eve; If you get killed it is 100% YOUR FAULT.
it's your fault if you don't scan before warping to some random belt and get ganked. it's your fault if you don't insure your ship and lose a pile of cash. it's your fault if you blunder into a gatecamp because you were too busy eating crisps.
Eve is harsh and unforgiving, but complaining that people are being mean to you is rubbish; it's your fault. concentrate.

Seriously, lousy attempt at trolling. If you had actually played the game for an hour or two, you'd have realized what was inaccurate about your lie, as well as the fact that the first million or so is the hardest -- by then you'd learn how to earn so you'd never be without a decent ship for long. Rather than saying go back to WoW or Hello Kitty or whatever, I recommend actually trying to play the game you forum-troll, you might like it.
