Edited by: James Lyrus on 21/08/2007 17:07:25 Well, from the new dev blog, it appears that blockade runners are getting an improved agility. This makes me happy, because I think the Crane is the coolest ship I've ever flown (yeah yeah, I know)
But...
Any chance of just a few more powergrid? This ship has _exactly_ the right grid to fit a MWD. Which means grid mods are needed, to fit anything at all in midslots. (3 remaining).
Please could we have just 5 more grid on this ship? heck, 3 would be enough.
Crane - Base grid 120 (150 with Eng 5) - 2 lows Prowler - base grid 130 (162.5)- 3 lows Viator - base grid 135 (168.75) - 3 lows Prorator - base 150 grid (187.5), 4 lows
Which means every Blockade Runner except the crane, can fill their slots with 'low powergrid' modules (e.g. hardeners, cap mods, speed mods) _and_ fit a T1 MWD.
Viator and Prorator can fit a 10mn MWD II and still do the same.
The Crane's the slowest and heaviest blockade runner, with the least lowslots already. It doesn't really need the additional handicap of having to use a PDS II to fit 3 shield hardners. (Or heaven forbid, a PDS II _and_ an RCU to squeeze a MWD II on there, and fill the mids).
4 powergrid would make all the difference to this ship. 16 would be even better, because then I can fit a MWD II, 3 hardeners _and a cloak_. The Viator and Prorator can both fit a MWD II, Cloak, and fill their mids with '1 grid' mods. Although there's a good case to be made for being able to fill lows + mids with 1 grid mods, for hardeners. (Since speed mods are 0 power grid, but hardeners aren't)
Please, if blockade runners are supposed to be MWD capable, can they please _all_ be MWD capable, without requiring low slots on those with least to spare.

Actually, it's the largest blockade runner too. And actually, they also have the largest tier 3 hauler, and largest DST too.
However, they're also the heaviest and slowest in each size. The Crane clocking in at 11.5M KG, and 165m/sec. 3500m3, and 2 lowslots Prowler is 10MKg and 180m/sec. 3250m3 and 3 lowslots Viator is 11.15MKg and 170m/sec. 3000m3 and 3 lowslots Prorator is slightly odd, in that it's 10.75M KG, but only 160 base speed. 2500m3 and 4 lowslots.
As a general rule, they also have the fewest lowslots for cargo or speed mods too though so. I'm pretty sure the Charon's only the biggest because the devs couldn't figure out how to do negative numbers of slots.

Edited by: Aramendel on 22/08/2007 02:12:30 "Largest" is relative. If the viator and the prorator use enough cargo expanders to bring them to 2 lowslots each both have more cargo than the crane. So I wouldn't say it is efficiently the largest BR.
The prowler has only 2 lows, though.
And, yes, it could need 4-5 more grid.

A BR needs to be able to fit a MWD and some tanking mods without giving up anything else, just a few more PG would go a long way here. ---- AUS Corp Lead Megalomanic |

Actually, all transport ships are a bit light in the grid department. Blockade runners should be able to fit a MWD and a suitable tank on their ships; this isn't really the case however (especially the armor tanked ones).

Not really. Fitting any kind of active tank is just a huge waste of slots and fitting on these ships. Their only chance of being able to survive efficiently is to be elusive.
Apart from the crane all other BRs are just fine.

I endorse this product and/or service.
Caldari noncombat ships need to stop sucking, especially if it only takes this tiny a nudge in the right direction.

Quite so. I don't think I've ever used that 10%/level shield boost bonus on a crane, in a situation it actaully matters. Next on my list of 'make blockade runners good' plan, would be to swap active tanking bonus, to passive - e.g. resists or just plain hitpoints or sig radius. A shield boost amount, when you'll be out of cap in not many cycles, is redundant...
Although I suppose you _do_ have a lot of space for injector charges in a hauler...
But the DSTs are the tankers, and the bigger haulers (i'd debate how useful a tanking hauler is, but I'm whining about the Crane here).

Started in S&M. Moved here, because that's where the 'game development' (and hence the change to B/R agility) came from.
So, I started a thread because the Crane was still just a little bit 'short'.
There's a LOOONG blockade runner thread in S&M too, if you care to look. It's got suggestions for why Blockade Runners are 'past their prime', and how to fix that. Agility was a start. 4 grid on the crane is better. There's a few more suggestions for how to 'fix' the outstanding issues.

Oops. Misread that then clearly. OK, so the Prowler could probably use a little more grid too then. Just maybe not as badly as the Crane.

That way.
Iteron 5 is a tier 5. Mammoth is a tier 4 Bestower is a tier 1 (but shouldn't be IMO - it's only that, because the Sigil was a later addition)
Aside from that, base cargo on the Badger II is 5250. Itty 5 is also 5250 (Iteron III is only 4875 ). Mammoth is 5625, but the minmatar don't have a tier 3 hauler. Bestower is only 4800.
Bustard is 5500 Crane is 3500
Impel is 4000 Prorator is 2500
Mastodon is 5250 Prowler is 3250
Occator is 5000 Viator is 3000
So, actually, the Badger II is larger than all the Amarrian haulers. And matches the highest tier Gallente hauler (which requires indy 5). It's a bit behind the minmatar hauler, but only requires indy 3, rather than indy 4.
Cargo expanders skew this. They skew it a lot. But for ships you run unexpanded (e.g. blockade runners, sometimes DSTs and freighters) it's eminently explainably why the Crane and Charon have the largest cargohold.
But this doesn't change the fact that the Crane needs just 4 more grid so it can fit that MWD _and_ some modules, with max fittings skills, and no fittings upgrades.

Actually, if you get some 10mn digital booster rockets, they'll fit. They're a cosmos/sleeper module though, so they're somewhat challenging to acquire...

Typically, all T1 haulers used only with expanders, excluding Sigil, which with his low mass and 5 lows can act much like blockade runner.
So then I'm right for T1 haulers. -- Thanks CCP for cu<end of sig> |
