Actually, when i run a lev 4 mission, im spending more (boring) time looting / salvaging than in the mission itself.
i do have the best salvager ship (armageddon, 1400m3, 3 tractor beam, 5 salvager, MWD etc. ) but cant find nothing more to speed up the post mission process.
my little ideas:
1) when u open a wreck, loot inside will automatically move in your ship cargo
2) medium and heavy tractor beams (even better: tech2 )
3) a specialized salvager ship with bonus to tractor beams
4) anything more you can imagine ...

What level salvaging do you have?
Do you have [a] Salvaging Rig[s] fitted?

If you have 3 t1 salvage rigs fitted cycle time -30% and salvaging skill at lvl 5 cycle time minus 25% you can considerably speed up the operation by reversing your salvager/tractor ratio. ie 3 salvager's to 5 tractors.
I just started using a Hurricane BC with 5 t2 expanders I get 1600 m3 and I put a nano in the sixth low to increase acceleration.
The cream on the cake is I have a warfare link in hi and use an alt to give me a gang boost. maxed out skills will give -22.5% to Armor repper duration or the same for repper cap use. as well as 15% increased armor hp from the basic skill plus the mindlink. well worth starting a second account.

Edited by: Ruuph Marx on 22/08/2007 10:19:32 Salvaging and looting can be much faster if you change the way you do the mission. When doing it, with your mission running ship, try to get the maximum number of wrecks inside a 20 Km sphere and bm the closer wreck to the center of the sphere. That can be done fitting a tractor beam in your mission running ship for the far cans and an AB to approach them faster. However, you must try to not kill rats unless they are inside the 20Km. sphere. To speed up things, distant spawns must be activated (but not killed) to let the rats approach you and get inside the 20 Km. sphere. A couple of missions worth salvaging can be easily done using this strategy. A few examples are:
Gone Berserk Stop The Thief A Case of Kidnapping The Right Hand of Zazzmatazz Pirate Invasion Angel Extravaganza Damsel in distress Attack of the Drones ...
However, using this tactic with the combat ship requires to have a good tank. About the salvager ship... If your ship has 8 highs to fit stuff, I suggest 5 Tractor Beams and 3 Salvagers instead the typical 4 and 4. last tip... when in the center of the 20Km sphere, tractor all the wrecks and salvage them without opening, that will let you only the cans with the loot. Make sure all the cans finish under the 1500 m. After all the wrecks are salvaged, jet a can and open it. Then, select in overview one at a time all the cans inside the 1500 m. and open them. With all the cans opened, start drag and drop stuff from them to the can you jetissoned before. This is the fastest way to do the things.
Hope it helps. Have fun.

I also use a geddon (4/4)for salvaging.
I try to concentrate the wrecks on one point or a line. When I finished the mission I'll take a large overviel and choose the wreck wich is on one side of the line / outside of the wreckcluster.
After warping to that wreck with my geddon I try to find a straight route through the wrecks and set the approach to the wreck on the other side. Then I start moving to that farest away wreck while tractoring and salvaging all on the way. When I am on the other end I will have missed around 4 to 6 wrecks wich were outside the route.
When things do not go so ideal I split the route in two to 3 parts diagonal through the wrecks (rest same as above).
The best part is, that I never need a mwd so my geddon goes around 300 ( faction AB ) and there are times where thats too fast to tractor and salvage all that stuff on the way.

That is not the best loot ship.
The MWD is a bad idea because you can't run it long enough and when you do run it you risk playing yo-yo with the cans you are tractoring. Far better to fit a Lif-fueled booster which with a couple of nanos will get you 217m/s which should be fine.
Your proportion of salvagers to tractors is the wrong way around. I use two salvage rigs, have decent skills and find that 3 salvagers can keep up with 5 tractors just fine.
1400m3 is not enough for L4 missions. Fit some expanded IIs and like me you can have over 2000m3. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

Or use a destroyer fitted with 3 salvagers and 5 tractors. If you absolutely have to keep those LAR, cap booster charges, and metal scraps, drag a jetcan around with you and empty it with an indy when you're finished.

Salvaging IV, 3 T1 salvage tackle rigs, 3 salvagers and 5 tractor beams works very well. The ship you use is a matter of personal preference. I currently use a Catalyst, because the ships with larger cargo bays still cannot fit all the loot from a lot of missions. So, I fill up the cargo hold and tow a can.
I may eventually fit out a BC with a BS class AB, but for now I come back with a hauler to pick up a can from each room. Or maybe I'll fit out a BS, but it seems like a real waste of a BS. ------------

I tried the 100mn on the BC and was very disapointed. yes you get the top speed, but oh man its so sluggish getting there. increases the ships mass by several times so it turns like an expanded deep space transport and accelerates like its towing a freighter.
I moved from a Brutix (less than optimal for the job 7 hi's) to a Hurricane,8 hi's, with a Polycarbon rig and 2 salvagers plus a nano it gives just under 300ms using a T2 10mn ab. Thats with 5 expanders and 1600m3.
It handles more like the "Cat" than a BC with that setup. I would have no qualms using an 8 hi 8 lo slot BS but as i said in a previous post I want the added gang bonus the BC can give.

Yep, I have my alt in a myrmi with a similar setup, except that she's focused on Skirmish (Damb ravens need all the speed they can get. 165m/s with Skirmish Mindlink... those extra 22m/s are very welcome when doing WC4. And the Shield Harmonisation link for extra resists. And of course the extra +10% shield/armour/targeting range & speed are nice too.

There are three larger tractors in the database
medium 40km velocity 500ms
Large 80km Velocity 500ms
Super 200km velocity 1500ms
the super will be introduced with the Rorqual cap Industrial ship.

Best salvage ship is Hurricane, not geddon.
And really, for isk/time purposes it is only worth it to salvage BS wrecks. Anything else might bring in more total isk, but actually diminishes the isk/time.

Yes the hurricane is ideal. Good balance of slots vs agility/velocity
I salvage everything, I need a bit of a break between missions anyways, salvaging is boring and time consuming but so is back to back missions one after another.
On a Different tack! I just did "Pirate invasion" lvl 4 after todays DT and found the loot table has been tweaked. Included 19 Trit bars and only 260 m3 of loot, all of which was large BS guns, nothing from all the cruisers and frigs. Anyone else seen any changes today?

Best salvage ship is the ORE industrial ship Capital tractor beams and massive cargo space FTW. A "tad bit" on the expensive side, and needs a cyno alt/friend to move around, but meh.
I hope you realize I'm being sarcastic ?
