Yup - If enough people whine on the forums and threaten the noob revenue stream CCP will bend. Its been proven with the Priv nerf amongst others.
CCP have this bizarre schizo policy where they back slap each other for having this hardcore game 'its not hello kitty online you know' and are happy for players to quit over the unannounced high sec ganking of people in noob corps/npc corps BUT giving a 24 hour notice (standard wardec run in period) with plenty of opportunity's for you to protect yourself and your assets (indeed plenty of opportunity to cause us losses/fight back) is somehow wrong.
So wrong it warranted CCP interference with this 'sandbox' in the first and only calculated and specifically targeted nerfing of an alliance in the game.

Unlike other mmo's if you are successful in eve it's not because the game is holding your hand, it's because you've earned it, it's because you ARE better than others.
Radar Rat has it right on the money. Eve isn't some happy go-lucky, feel-good adventure for the whole family. It was created to be a harsh, fend-for-yourself-or-be-crushed, risk-vs.-reward, paranoia-inducing adrenaline rush. Get over it or stick to one player games. I reccomend the Elder Scroll series.
My alt has NEVER been pirated to anything NEAR being ruinious. It's never lost a ship. It's never been criminally flagged. Never been suicide attacked. Never been scammed. It has earned more money in game than I expect my main, LegendaryTyr (i.e. ME), to EVER earn. Playing my alt, I can also enjoy the game to a great extent, as pvp is not conducive to good study habits. Where is MY whining thread about this game being harsh? There aren't any. I play carefully, and still can enjoy the game on a character that won't ever have to pvp.

Pirating in high sec needs to stop. I've had some of my friends unregister aswell because of it and I've been the victim of it myself.
If you people are saying he dosnt know how to play the game. Why dont you tell him how to avoid getting high sec ganked step by step instead of flaming him. Bit immature imo to harass someone whos lost everything.

bit immature to flame him..yes but not the way he came on here to flame all of "us gankers"
the bold part..is where we come from, meaning...countless people come to C&P to moan and complain about this and that when it almost always ends up sounding like it is coming from an immature child. His story bears close resemblence to this thread as I've linked before...if it is not him then I feel for him but I am NOT sorry..long ago before I ever pirated I was "highsec" pirated and lost 450mil in BPO's. Did it suck, yes. Did I lose almost every isk to my name at that point...yes(the BPO's were an isk investment to more isk) Instead of crying about it, especially to other players (the likes who "in general" caused it). I sucked it up because I "LIKE" the game (the term "love" is reserved for people imo) and I kept going. Your darn right I was sour, but that is what makes this game awsome. The risk vs. reward is real. If he does not know how to protect his assets then bad on him. If he has not played the game long enough to know how to protect his assets, then bad on him again for giving up! There are plenty of people who would help him if he would ask instead of "omg CCP you suxorz, I quit."
rant over.....

Post with your mains and quit crying. Now how on Earth did you lose ten billion from one incident? The common phrase, "don't put all your eggs in one basket," comes to mind. I'm sorry you lost so much, I really am; that's coming from a dedicated can flipper scum bag.
But you should have been more careful. Honest to God, how do you lose so much in one go? Simple carelessness. You should have known better and you failed to take the time to haul in partitions rather than all at once; for that you lost everything to a very lucky pirate. Quit and take your whining elsewhere, or rebuild and perhaps think about sticking it back to the pirates the same way they got you. PvP really is invigorating, hi-sec or not.
One more thing, personal attacks are a great way to prove that you are incapable of reasoned argument or debate, do try harder.
What I say here... does not reflect on my corp or alliance. |

whoa dude...the way this post sounds I think you need to go talk to a counselor, and I am not poking fun. 450mil/10bil it is still only a game man. You don't see BoB quiting cause they lost like 75bil to corp theft do you. Stop feeling sorry for yourself, it happens to everyone. The way you are talking it would not matter if it wa 450mil or 10bil...you would still prolly fly off the deep end. Dude ..get drunk, wake up and start over...life goes on, you should too.
I am not for a minute trying to guess at your RL situation nor do I want to...all I am saying is that if this game holds that much sway over your waking life then you need to do some soul searching. If you want to talk about it out of game I would be happy to oblige. take it easy man...

Wow, you overcame physical ailments to play EVE Online. We should totally respect you for that. Get over yourself. There are tons of unfortunate people out there that accomplish WAY more than playing EVE. People with no legs doing marathons. People with artificial legs actually RUNNING in races. Even people with mental and physical ailments do more with their life than say, "Gee, I overcame so much to play this video game. People need to know this without me telling them! Treat me different!"
If you were telling the truth (this IS the internet, after all) then you need to look back on your life's accomplishments, reflect some, and do something that is an actual overcoming of your physical whatever. I have no respect for someone who wants special treatment for being "different," because 99% of the time, they can do it for themselves. They just want the easy way.
In short, this is a video game. On the internet, no less. If you can't take selfish jerks who want to cause you harm, then go somewhere else. God knows I act like a jerk sometimes because it feels good to make someone feel bad. IN A GAME.

I have absolutely no sympathy for privateers. Dismissing conspiracy theories about CCPs connection to BoB, we should be totally honest about the war-dec game mechanic and how it was intended to work.
It was, in all honesty, a tool for corporations and alliances to fight over in-game content. One corp didn't like another corps control over a hi-sec ice field? A war-dec would follow. A big 0.0 alliance goes to war in 0.0 over space, and wants to harass known unfriendly assets in empire, a war-dec would follow.
This game mechanic most certainly, from a development standpoint, was never intended to be used by a single alliance for the purposes of war-decing every major corporation and alliance in game, so that said alliance could permanently base a pirate operation in empire.
The moral of the story is Privateers were abusing a game mechanic, and that game mechanic was corrected at a later date by CCP, forcing Privateers to use it as it was intended. End of story.

CCP, today you have lost 6 people from your subscription list. Not because of how dynamic your game is, but because the people who like to play your game as a hobby are the victims of your own failure to make high sector a secure environment for players.
The more people get ganked in high sec. The more they'll quit.
Two things.....
1: Just because the "police" are there does not mean someone can not come up and shoot you in the head. They simply respond to the shots fired....same as in real life

Its a ******* game, dude. Get a grip. Eve-Online is most decidedly not real life, people's persona's are not necessarily reflected by their eve persona's. You say that people who pirate are scum in real life? Perhaps, just perhaps, we are people who enjoy the challenge of finding, holding, and killing ships piloted by real life people, instead of an AI.
Its challenging, its difficult, and its fun. As for your claim that you, "failed" yourself, and failed your friend, again, you need to maintain a healthy perspective, which you aren't doing.
Its not as if your "friend" won't be able to pay rent, or feed his family because you got his stuff blown up. Its all pixels and light, dude, pixels and light.
As for your claim that you've overcome something to "play" eve, I have very little sympathy. You are over a year old (in-game,) so whatever you "overcame" to play eve, you should have been keenly aware of what this game was like.
There are many MANY games out there where there is very little risk involved as far as your assets.

You dont know where I live and how hard I had to struggle to get what I wanted over the years given the worst of real life circumstances. The fact that someone in my situation even managed to play eve with every bit of drawback physically would be worth something to commend but you guys take pleasure in ******* someone over completely. And you laugh about it.
I failed myself and I failed my friend. And I hope each and every one of you lose what you work for irl and your friends who deserve better friends than each one of you who laugh at destroying other peoples work.
I dont know what happened but just guessing you maybe got Lofty'd? (More info here).
High sec mission runners who don't do anything else but farming missions, earning isk, buying a Navy Raven and expensive faction mods to do the missions quicker to earn more isk. Only to buy even better faction mods and maybe officer mods again to do the missions even faster to make more isk but never really using it on what this game is meant to be. A PVP game. I couldn't care less if these people get killed and quit the game, they're just a waste of bandwidth imho. Go play WoW instead...
