Infact I lied there, it was WM9 format. And how do I extend my list of codecs? I only have MOV, RealPlayer, WM9 and FLV

You install new ones... go to the website of the codec, download it, install it...

I must be doing something silly
I downloaded the lagarith one, and installed it as per the readme, but still nothing in Premiere...
Do I have to copy the DLL to a folder or something?

In the Export screen, where you export as AVI, you will get a list of codecs of various sorts (including Uncompressed). Lagarith will show in that list if you extracted the DLL and the INF, and right click/installed the INF file.

I am having something weird happening. I export from premiere to AVI using the ffdshow codec. Res is 1280x1024. AVI is about a gig, very nice quality. I run it through the autoencoder, and the video I get is about 267mb, which is great, but the video hickups on some of the still screens of text at the start and end of the video. The audio seems to be fine, and once the video finally comes back, its in the right place.
Is this because I'm using VLC media player and there are better ones for mkv playback? Or is it because my computer isn't fast enough? Or am I doing something wrong with the encoder.
Go easy on me, I'm a media editing noob as far as the technical stuff goes. Thanks in advance=)

Does your CPU max out when it hiccups? If so, its simply your computer being slightly too slow. CoreAVC is the fastest H.264 decoder out there; it'll ensure you can play the video smoothly with basically any modern CPU.

Edited by: Aberash on 03/12/2007 00:36:32 hmm im trying to encode to mkv, but it never does the audio for me, so i usually just get the video.mkv file (290mb in this case) in the temp folder and mux it with an mp3 track (18mb) of the avi video (560mb). did it this time, and it was perfectly sync'd but the output file was 580mb (20mb bigger than the original avi file ) ..
edit : and i did mux it with the mp3 file and not a wav file encase u wondered

Let me guess--you dragged in the video file with the audio in it, but didn't unselect the video?
560MB + 18MB = about 580MB...

Edited by: Aberash on 03/12/2007 14:47:56 yeh i was being a tard and importing the avi instead of mkv .. anyways ive tried it with:
-the mkv video + audio from the avi -the mkv video + mp3 audio file
both come up with a smaller file, but both out of sync (same problem i had with evetube) - audio a few seconds behind
now i tried changing the audio by -2000ms , and the first song is in sync, but then it gets to the second song and thats about 3 seconds out of sync, then the last song is like 7 seconds out of sync so i dont see how im gonna make it work..
is there any chance you could have a bash at it or provide a fix? .. i dont know why its going out of sync so much -
p.s. when encoding an mkv it never encodes the audio - which is why i always have to use mkvmerge

1. Check your framerates. 30 FPS is NOT 29.976 FPS, and 24 FPS is NOT 23.976 FPS.
2. About the audio issue: I KNOW but I have NO IDEA why some computers cannot encode the audio correctly, nor do I know any Delphi, so I couldn't fix it if I did know. Yes, this really aggravates me.
If you cannot get it working, try another program like Staxrip, Ripbot264, MeGUI, etc. Honestly it would be nice if I could find a nice GUI that is easy to use, that people like, and that doesn't have this audio bug.

I need to knit 2 .avi videos together, is it possible to do this and convert them to a .mkv using your encoder or am I just stupid?
If not, any suggestions? :P I'm very un-video orientated when it comes to technology.

You can obviously do it with a video editing program; another way to do it is to create an Avisynth script that looks like this:
DirectShowSource("filename1") + DirectShowSource("filename2")
Open this script with the encoder, and it'll automagically work.

btw the framerate of what are you referring to?
and i tried those other programs you talked about and they were even worse got all sorts of errors, with one it asked me to download a bunch of codecs, i downloaded them, then it kept askin me to download some of them over and over and it wouldnt let me continue lol, another just wouldnt open an avi file, and one of them nearly worked but crashed about 3/4 way through

Edited by: Herm0dhr on 06/12/2007 20:13:47 Great program
A cool feature for a future release would be the ability to convert multiple videofiles to h.264 automaticly.
Many eve videos are not in .mkv and it would be worth it¦s weight in gold to be able to set the encoder to convert like 10 movies to h.264 over night instead of doing it manually during the day and change after each file is done.
It could just keep the same filename on the files it convert and ofcourse include the sound.

A black DOS window should come up with the encoding progress.
If nothing comes up, nothing is happening.
The most common mistake is not following the first instruction on the list: installing Avisynth.

It seems I am one of those guys that cant get the audio to work, so perhaps someone can tell me what I am doing wrong here..
First I Fraps about 1min worth of material from eve that comes around 2gb. Edit it in Sony Vegas and add in audio and render it as uncompressed AVI and it ends up around 10.5gb. Then when I run it through AutoEncoder all goes smooth and well but it doesnt have the audio track in it.. No matter what I do I just cant seem to have the audio after I autoencode it.. Have avisynth etc installed.. 10.5gb file plays with audio on virtualdub (well, "plays".. framerate is horrendous but its a 10gig file..).
So am I missing a codec somewhere or what? Ofcourse I could make the flick ready in Vegas, make it uncompressed file, extract the audio track in virtualdub, compress the avi to mkv and add the audio track then but thats just extra work..

just a note:
im frapsing at 1440 x 900. with auto-crop enabled your skript tries to render it at 1440 x 896 (896 is devideable by 16). however the encoder doesnt generate any video output (if i recall right i got some read errors). disabling auto-crop i get a warning that i might loose encoding efficiency, but at least it works.

I've never been able to figure this one out, tbh.
You can always try using MeGUI or similar.

That's strange. But if it works, so much the better. Also note, the loss in encoding efficiency is not large at all.

Dark Shikari, Firstly thank you very much for his tool!
I am creating my first eve movie and I have over 100 ~ 1gb fraps captures that I need to crunch down to size. If there any way to edit the batch file to run a ôBatchö of 100 encodes back to back that would be great. I think I am going to go crazy if I have to wait 20 minutes * 100 to get these files down to size.
Also, am I correct in assuming once I compress these huge Fraps files down to .mkvs I will still be able to work with them in Adobe premier right? Sorry for the noobish questions.

Unfortunately, Premiere cannot natively import MKV files. You can use the Avisynth import plugin to import them, but Premiere dies after importing more than 10-20 Avisynth files into one video file, in my experience. Maybe if you used FFmpegSource instead of DirectShowSource it'd be different.
