Our recently assembled Live Team is pretty awesome and this is their first dev blog about how they are going to improve the EVE client with your expert help.
Check out the blog, written by CCP Masheen, right here, and as he requests therein...make sure we get your feedback. CCP Guard | EVE Community Developer |

When you open jet cans, loot containers, wrecks, profession (Radar, Salvager) cans, add a nice "Loading..." text while the client is waiting to find out if it's empty, and a nice "Empty" when the client has confirmed with the server that it is indeed empty.
THIS ^ is an an excellent example, *brofist* Keep 'em coming and please use the 'Like' function as this will be the primary indicator for us of what is popular |

Bloodpetal wrote:First, I still feel you need to clarify what the LIVE team does exactly? It seems like this overlaps with Team BFFs "thousand papercuts" project? Or are you something different? DO you not focus on papercuts and on iterating certain features beyond just "fixing" them? Or? Take a moment and clarify a little more on what we should be expecting from you please.
Good question! What myself and the two other devs named in my blog are specifically interested in is harvesting your feedback on client performance. Within the Live Team we have some software engineers of our own who are already working on client performance and this drive will ensure that what they fix is what you care about.
Soon we may ask about another part of EVE, perhaps for a feature/gameplay team. Then what we will do is make sure your feedback is properly collected and delivered to that team so they can make informed decisions based on what you (the New Eden community) told us. We are Testers so we can investigate issues and work closely with our programming brethren on getting to the bottom of your reports.
'Little Things' is a long term project by Team BFF [that has been on-going for about a year now] to collect and tackle minor issues and it covers anything small in EVE that bugs you!
The two projects each have developers of their own and are therefore able to work on separate issues. I hope this clarifies things |

What myself and the two other devs named in my blog are specifically interested in is harvesting your feedback on client performance. How do we know whether the cause of something that is slow is the client and not the server or something else? From a developer point of view it's probably obvious, but that doesn't necessarily apply to us the players. Or do you just want a list of all things I try to do which don't happen quickly enough?
Yes! things that you think don't happen quickly enough or that don't let you know what is happening are definitely things we are interested in.
If you're not sure if it is a server call or the client that is lagging out don't worry, tell us about it anyway and if a load of people have the same problem it is probably worthy of our attention regardless of the reason why it happens.
We're testers so what we can promise is that we will investigate, the only thing we can be completely sure of is that problems we don't know exist will definitely not get fixed. |

We've been watching this thread closely and have extracted the issues which have been reported. These issues have been filtered and are currently being tested and prioritised by CCP TomB, CCP Highlander and myself.
Some of the pressing issues that you have reported will be tackled by EVE teams such as the illustrious Team Gridlock. If you read the original Devblog carefully you may see that we were looking for a fairly specific type of performance issue, this was to help give Team Gridlock and other devs a big hint as to where they next needed to look in order to make your client run smoother than a cashmere codpiece!
However... a lot of issues reported in this thread did not fit Team Gridlock's mission or capabilities. Fear not! this is totally cool with us and we are working to distribute those issues to Feature or Foundation teams.
Thanks for participating spacebro's as your reports have helped us give our new mission a rocking kickstart

Bloodpetal wrote:Seriously, this is the ONE
To apply to join an Alliance you have to LOAD that WHOLE alliance list and dig through and find the ONE ALLIANCE that you want out of thousands.
Seriously, this is the perfect intersection you're looking at between Performance and Interface that I think your team is supposed to handle. First of all it takes an age to load that Alliance list - and second, you need to go digging through a list of Thousands!
Whatever you choose to do to fix it... it can be many different things, please this is the one thing to fix. It makes no sense and is the kind of thing that leaves a bad taste in your mouth after you apply to an alliance because of the client.
I know this doesn't hit 300,000 users every day, but it's something that you don't forget after you've done it. A few times.
ANOTHER good one
Opening Agent Missions - I think the performance on this could be better. When I talk to an agent I get a big screen that shrinks down and then loads everything. It needs to be a smoother operation - preload it, put a "Fetching data" and then display properly. I don't know why it takes a few seconds to do this, but it can be better for sure.
I like and agree with you on the alliance joining, this is clearly from a time before usability and I can think of a couple ways in which we can handle this better. I see what you mean about the agent convo loading up. Once we have established with UI Design a standard for loading notification we can consider extending it to UI windows such as this. |

STOP making things PRETTY, SHINY or NEW.
Make things WORK !
Nobody needs animations in the neocom, ...
FIX BUGS, Speed up the client on older machines,
PLEASE just make the game work. Nothing else matters guys !
Fear not! We now have several people to make all-things-client run better and it's already happening, read here for details! Plus, the feedback you provided in this thread has already been compiled and Team Gridlock will be taking a good look at some of the reported issues in the coming months. Bloodpetal wrote:Hope this thread is still being read up on.
I have been getting a weird glitch - and others as well...
When going to "cook" my modules and lock a target - the modules don't always activate on lock completion.
Cooking means when you click on the modules and they start blinking with nothing to activate on - so when you lock the immediately engage. This has been VERY unreliable as of late, and seems like the kind of thing you take care of - can you look into this?
Thanks!
Yes, I'm still reading this thread, I just tried the issue you reported a number of times and couldn't reproduce what you are describing. Can you be more specific about how it occurs for you:
- How do you start? do you click the module first and then left-click a target in space or start locking from the Overview or in-space and select the module while locking?
- What are you targeting? NPC or Player targets?
- Does the module activate eventually or just never at all?
