So, the Beta has been out for 2 days now. I've played well over 12 hours within 2 days at college, which is pretty much all of my free time.
What are your first thoughts, impressions and were your expectations met?
IMO, best multi-player game this side of EVER! It is just so well balanced, so smooth and SO MUCH FUN! Even after 12 hours solid playing, I hadn't heard the Heavy utter 'I AM BULLETPROOOF! HAHAHAH!', and when I did I couldn't aim straight with my uber-scout of doom
Favourite class?
Mine's the scout - quick, nimble, and packs one hell of a punch if you know when to strike (I've got killing heavies nearly down to a fine art). I also enjoy the engineer.
I love this game! ---

Oh psh. I can wait then. Especially since I still have issues with Episode 1 and I can't play it past like the first five minutes.

I have been looking forward to TF2 since the Source engine came out and used to love TFC. I'd also like portals and halflife 2 episodes 1 and 2. Is there a cheaper deal for me than the orange box if I already own Half-Life 2 itself or is that still my best deal?

5 games for ú25? I believe that's called a bargain. The only better investment for that amount of cash is poteen.
*EDIT* Just checked Steam, $45 right now, preorder discount. Can you honestly justify not coughing that up? Even on minimum wage that's less than a days work for many, many weeks of fun. I might even start some sort of orange charity.

I usually play as heavy or soldier... Packing the punch is where it is, and scaring the hell out of enemy snipers who dont hear the barrel spinning up behind them (gotta love that kill screenshot)

Loving it aswell. Brought back all the old memories of team fortress using the half life engine (shame i didnt play the original quake version, but meh..)
I also fell back into playing my fave characters pretty quick aswell (medic, engineer, demoman), and i still suck with the sniper
It is pretty balanced, except maybe the scout is a little overpowered, or maybe just havent worked out how to stop them capping so damn quickly, and getting owned by their shotty of doom.
I was never a great fan of dustbowl before, but now sans grenade spams its a lot better, spy sapping is great to do and try to counter (nothing like seeing another character running around trying to look innocent and he's got your name! A serious wtf? hahahaha! got you now you summabiotch!
All in all, a blast.
If anyone's looking to put a team together, evemail me.

Played about 5 hours so far and found most success with the Engineer. The Spy is a lot of fun too, but it can be quite frustrating finding a lone enemy who's death won't blow your cover.
Biggest gripe so far is that - if you're near the end of the round, on offence, and have clueless Engies - there can be a lot of running to the fighting, dying, running back, dying, running back again etc., because the location of the action is largely concentrated in the same area on each "stage" of the map.
Really, really good fun though. -- Violent games don't make people violent. Lag does. |

Sorry this title belongs to Tribes/ Tribes 2.
I'll buy the game when it is for sale alone, it better be as good as you say lofty =). I liked playing spy in TFC. Took a lot of thinking/skill because you couldnt just go and feign in the middle everytime or the enemy would learn after 1 or 2 knifings.

Team Fortress 2 is probably the funniest game ever released and a great companion for my next pos shooting/gate camping ops.
Favourite class, for the moment I'd say the soldier for the simple reason that no one wants to be a vanilla soldier, ever.

I don't know but i'm seeing pretty unbalanced teams so far. Everyone trying do pull some stunts but listen to me, raw firepower never hurt anyone (at the right side of the barrel). I stopped playing FPS online some years ago but this is definitively worth a shot even for non-lovers of the genere.

Edited by: Ichabod Crane on 20/09/2007 16:04:07 TF2 is easily the most fun I've ever had in a game. Gameplay stays true to TFC and the cartoonish style is a master stroke.
I did have some reservations about that but the graphics are pretty and the character animations and voices are hilarious. I spent a whole round just testing out the different taunts for each class.
Backstabbing enemy spies can get a bit tedious though, but they're hilarious on servers with friendly fire, engineers on your team get so paranoid if you hang around their deployables too long
Favourite class: Demoman/Soldier (detonating sticky bombs on control points that are being captured = fun) -

Shhh Lofty, people will start to think we are devs of Valve as well when we start to wtfbbq everyone
But man I can't wait to get this tomorrow. I haven't pre-ordered it yet, but going to in the morning when my paycheck clears.....will I still be able to play the beta or do I have to wait until October
And to tell you the truth, every time I logon to TFC and play a game I always have this big stupid grin on my face when I blow up snipers from underneath them on 2fort with my engineer MRVs.

You should be able to play it, there isnt a set date from beta players, so I presume anyone pre-purchasing it can play the beta. As far as I can tell, there arent any bugs, it even runs better than CSS, no random crashes, no pink reflections when hitting the Windows key by accident.
Team Fortress 2 is a very very good game, it seems well balanced, and the maps and graphics are excellent, sort of imagine cartoony graphics, but very 3d and smooth modelling.
Gameplay wise this is similar to TimeSplitters 2, with a hint of UT2004 with more teamwork involved.
Will take a while to download though, not sure how big it is, but steams servers are slow atm.
Recommended buy.
Orange box also comes with HL2: Episode 1 and 2, Portal (looks pretty good, not out yet, but you get it with this package), and an arcade game called peggle (Which I played and played while TF2 was downloading, its pretty darn addictive). Only ú26 off Steam, bargain tbh.

Tf2 is one of the only games where you don't get really ****ed off when you die, and actually find it quite amusing.
Except for the spies. God they annoy me. Always destroying my turrets and stabbing me in the back. Damn them!
I mostly play as a medic ubercharging a heavy. Every once in a while you find your kinda 'game soul-mate' and the game becomes golden for them few minutes you have together. For instance, when I met with a heavy on a random server and we stuck together for entire maps taking over points and causing paths of destruction wherever we went. It's things like that that really make a game. Certainly an instant classic. ---
