We had a small database issue that caused the server to crash, fortunately this doens't appear to be tied to our recent week of crashes.
Please check back for updates which will be posted as soon as we get them.

yeah, well I had 32 seconds left on a skill when I went to sign in.. wonder if my petition will state that they couldn't verify whether or not the server caused me not to be able to log in, and therefore they cannot give me the missed sp.. When did it go down? I was trying to log in at 14:35 eve time.

For every new patch, the server either dies immediately or dies the very next day. It's great to see how some problems are fixed and more arise after that. No game is perfect but that is how MMOs are like these days.

I have been playing Eve for four months now.
The game must be good to have me so hooked despite the regular crashes.
However,I do look forward to CCP telling us what they have actually done to fix the frequent crashes, rather than what they they 'thought' they had done to fix the issue.

The backup job that backs up our Transaction Log files hung at 02:30
As you may be aware we recently installed a secondary RAMSAN and moved our transaction log files to this RAMSAN, but disk space monitoring on this drive had not been enabled.
With no disk space monitoring we were not notified of the second RAMSAN was using all its storage space, and since the job that backs up our transaction log files did not fail but remained in a hung state we did not receive a warning for that as well.
I have already implemented checks in the future to prevent this and it is unfortunate that this crash has happened so soon after fixing our failover problems. But I want to make it clear this is not related to the failover problem we were having, this is a completely new problem that occurred.
Our failover problems remain fixed and eradicated.

I dunno if this is possible, but maybe add a tool that checks if everything was successfully done after downtime? or manual checklist. Its always better to delay Downtime then to crash I guess

Does this mean I miss out on that sweet 'complete the mission in under set time' bonus, or is that time going to be reset?
It's just ISK this time, so I wouldn't mind missing out on it TOO much, but it's still not cool to miss out on the bonus through problems that I didn't cause.

I have to say Wranglers posts have gotten a lot better, I like to hear some of the details as it points out that the EvE Cluster is more than a couple servers held together by some cable ties.

Im getting sick of barely being able to play during a large amount of my prime time (12.00-20.00 server time) due to the lag making missions risky at best, and for the past few weeks the servers have crashed and stayed down for hours at a time smack in the middle of my bet playing hours ?
Fix your game already !
Im not one to whine about a server crash once in a while, but when for the past month i have been unable to play during about 80% of the time i have wanted to play because of server issues, things arent as they should be.

no but for example it would mean that the database got damaged and in the worste case they have to do a rollback from the latest backup (yesterday downtime if the backup routine didnt work as stated).
so dont complain about a little crash :p

Ok I can see 3 problems here and not 1.
1) Why doesn't your batch scheduler that runs your backup jobs have an over running shout. ie if the job that runs every hour doesn't complete in 5 mins why the hell didn't it alert someone. problem solved 13 hours before crash
2) Why doesn't the system run a version of the same job as part of the daily housekeeping? You have a full system outage every day so it damn well should be! problem solved 2 hours before crash
3) How on earth can you install a critical piece of hardware like a ram san and not have turning the alerting on and testing the alerting as part of the installation process? Alerting software notifies the operator and launches the job to clean up, problem resolved.
And Yes I do work as an sys admin for a living so I do know what I'm talking about

Hopefully once its complete i can move on to LVL 3's if i can complete this important storyline ! :)
