Edited by: Canine Fiend on 30/09/2007 00:34:34 I remember we had a few fellows from the EVE:China server come and talk to us a few months ago, they said dreads were in production but nobody had the skills to fly them yet, and there were a few major alliances... here's their alliance map, it looks like the big purple blob is similar to BoB in terms of empire control...

China has about 20% of the world's population. India about 17%, with the USA a distant third with less than 5%. USA would be fourth if you include the E.U. as a single entity, which would account for slightly above 7% of the world's population. Basically, all of the "western worlds" (USA, Canada, all of Europe and not just the EU, several former Soviet Union countries near Europe too), all of them put together, and it still would not even reach the same population numbers as China.
Still, concurrent users for Tranquility are usually above 30k every day (with roughly 200k subscribers), while Serenity barely reaches 3k (and I have no idea what the subscriber numbers there are, and I do not want to make a wild guess as to how active/inactive subscribers there are compared to those on TQ).
Draw your own conclusions. _

Well, not to be a nuissance, I "get" where you're standing, PR and all, so you're not in the position to say anything else
But you'd have to be blind and not see EVE China has most likely turned into an abject failure. The only possible "salvation" would be to completely "compromise" what EVE (Tranquility) stands for on Serenity, and start allowing ISK sales for real money, or even introduce a grind element to skilling up, maybe even have insurance cover modules and full ship cost, or what ever "grinder-friendly" changes that could be made that would kill EVE-"normal" but heavily boost EVE-China.
Chinese people just don't "dig" the way EVE (this, EVE, the one and only true EVE) works. It's too "western-minded". _

Really. The only acceptable solution is to allow isk buying and selling? Just because EVE China doesn't have a lot of players, it's not a failure unless they're losing money. Considering 1/10th the players = 1/10th the required hardware, what would they be losing all this money on? ---------------

Recipie for success of EVE-China:
* ISK insurance for ship loss removed ; instead, you get an identical ship minus modules dropped in wreck in the "insurance station" * clone insurance covers implants too ; new clone keeps all implants if clone is up-to-date (possible extra cost) * system-generated ISK purchaseable for real Chinese money in limitless quantities * POS captured instead of destroyed * performing an action increases SP gain in appropriate skill(s)
This would KILL EVE here, but would make it boom in China. _

Hmm, let' see... I doubt the hardware there is all that "sub-par" compared to TQ, because they were expecting massive loads... like I said, 200k signups in the first day ? Huge PCU numbers the first month ? Stuff like that. Sure, running costs might be lower now, so it's not a FINANCIAL failure... yet, anyway, I hope. Not that it would matter much anyway, since from what I gather, financially speaking, the EVE China server is funded and operated by a Chinese company, not by CCP itself... or am I wrong ? I merely meant "failure" as in "not anywhere near as profitable as it could be if changed". _

With 200k signing up on launch day to "check it out", you can bet your ass it wasn't "lack of dragons"... those wouldn't even have signed-up in the first place. _

Here is a thought,
What if.... a 'wormhole' suddenly opened up between Tranquility and Serenity?
Woah.... Can we say MASSIVE war???
Too bad it would be such an unbalanced missmatch considering Tranquility servers have players who can fly dreads and the super caps, whilst Serenity players don;t have the skills to fly dreads.
What CCP could have done is created Serenity as a completely different 'race' of players with different ship classes, weapons and looks. heck, the chinese players already read in chinese characters already so their GUI would appear 'alien' to most Tranq players anyway. Serenity would appear 'alien' to Tranq players who can't read chinese, and the Chinese players would have the same problem. coming to 'our' world.
That would have been quite interesting don't ya agree?

This is the Chinese server in a nutshell:
http://www.oleswanson.com/images/office/mistakes.jpg
It's a warning of what will happen to TQ if the farmers really get a good grasp on the game, and CCP doesn't properly handle them, also, The Chinese server is doomed to fail if Chinese can just make accounts on TQ.
Why play on the Chinese server when you can play on Tranquility and be able to sell your stuff for much more than you could sell it for on the Chinese server?

That's pretty darn scathing, but spot-on. I've played enough "Korean Grind" MMOs in my day to know what works in Asia: Numbers. Numbers that go up. Never down. And at regular, incredibly short intervals over a very, very long time. With no such thing as a maximum number. Oh, and e-bling.

Slowly and regularly rising numbers? You mean they like to grind? Mining and mission running fit the bill then. Just gotta make asteroids looks less like common dirt and more like shiny expensive stuff - same goes for all the loot (frequency crystals imho are not shiny enough).
